Here we are complaining that we need meters before and after effects on Helix, when, really, what the world needs is a fact check meter built into our browsers to rate every bit of information that comes in over the internet, haha!
-
What Zooey said... resetting the Helix resets all the Global Settings (grr...). It's a good idea to record any changes you make to Global Settings till they improve the updating process.
-
Helix returns are TS. So I don't believe TRS or TS ends will make a difference from XLR mono.

Or... "Amateurs talk about tools, Professionals create"

Just to answer the original question... Auto 10K, 22K 32K, 70K, 90K, 136K, 230K 1MOhm So it's discrete steps, only goes as low as 10K 10K sounded nice into the Industrial Fuzz, but made KWB and Valve Driver sound lifeless with Fuzz off.
-
Why did you "use to get" Fuzz factorys? Do they not make them anymore? Any idea what the actual input impedance of the pedals is/was?
-
Make sure to put it first in your chain and adjust impedance to taste, I've seen people say it's around 8K in the real pedal, and I imagine Helix is the same.

Finally got around to fooling around with the settings per the manual for the Industrial Fuzz... Wow... much, much happier now and able to make some awesome fuzz sounds... If anyone is interested in an Excel spreadsheet version of the settings, and I consolidated the Helix settings together to make it easier to read... here you go https://www.dropbox.com/s/mf1kg27cpwn4dlv/Line%206%20Helix%20-%20Industrial%20Fuzz%20%28Factory%29%20Settings%20Sheet.xls?dl=1

Some people like to use carabiners to attach stuff to the outside of the bag, to hold things like loops of cables and other somesuch that doesn't fit in the pockets. Kind of a typical thing for backpacks these days... DesignGuy said he didn't want to make the top pocket too big which could make the bag top heavy when fully loaded, and those loopy things filled in the blank space nicely (bein' an Industrial Design type of Guy, he likes things to look good as well as be functional.)

Does Anybody Use the Helix to Control an Axe-FX2?
FlyingsCool replied to DrBonkersSndLab's topic in Helix
I think Cruisinon was agreeing with you... why bother using an MFC to control both when Helix can do it just fine? -

To your point, I can't say I've seen ANYONE say they are using an MFC to control their Helix... -
Hallo! Hope you have fun! We're here if you need help :)

Why would it be "better"? Adding an MFC-101 is adding yet another piece of equipment that is only doing what the Helix can already do. But... To each their own... And, yes, you could do that, too... -
I don't understand how it's useless. They had a choice, act like a real pedal board or not? They chose to act like a real pedal board would, which, I happen to agree with (I realize you don't). Now, let's assume they didn't, now the impedance changes to whatever block is next that is turned on? I dunno, it seems to me that could cause some artifacts as it's switching the impedance. I really think it's better that it stay constant. You could argue "Well, if they were 'true bypass' pedals they wouldn't act like that". Were the pedals they modeled 'true bypass'? No. Remember, this is only the action of Impedance set to "Auto". It stays put if you set it to something else. Or you could use the method described above. Just my half a cent....

Does Anybody Use the Helix to Control an Axe-FX2?
FlyingsCool replied to DrBonkersSndLab's topic in Helix
The answer is yes.. There are several people who use a Helix to control an Axe-FXII. Chris Saraga (see facebook group) for one in particular, and I think Chad Boston, and there are others. -
For those who are interested... Got my Helix Backpack; very happy with it, well built much easier to lug around than what I used to use. Pockets are 12.5" x 16" x 4" and 6" x 8" x 2.75" In the large pocket, I was able to fit 2 BOSS FV-500H pedals, an 8 foot 6 outlet extension cord and a folding guitar stand, and then on top of that a couple of zipper bags for my cables. Then in the top pocket I put another bag of less often used cables. So I'm only short 1 guitar stand and another 8 foot 6 outlet extension cable compared to what I used to carry. I'm happy. I can put the other guitar stand in my Variax bag, and I don't really need the second extension cord. I usually just bring it in case others need it.
-
Which Variax are you using? I'm assuming it's stock setup? Have you adjusted the pickup height at all (I don't know what the specs are, and they don't publish them for some reason, but I believe they are available)? Given it's humbuckers, I assume it is JTV-59? If it's JTV-89, aren't the pickups kinda hot compared to the models in the guitar (spank and tele are low output single coils and even the Lester I think models relatively low output HB's). Even so... -12dB max is the recommended max level, anything below 0 is ok. What is the max it is going to (about)? Interesting there is a difference between 1/4 and VDI. Certainly the VDI output has already done the A/D conversion in the guitar. Perhaps with the 1/4", maybe no A/D is being done before the magnetics are output? I'm not sure I understand what your setup for recording into Native was. Where would the A/D from magnetics through 1/4 be done if not on Guitar? It sounds like you are using a DI, not sure what that would do to the signal. We do know L6 is very proud of the dynamic range of their converters in Helix. Would this allow more overtones to get out which in turn would increase the energy being output which might translate to a stronger signal on the meter?

Good luck

In past revisions, this was happening to some people. It turned out to be some corruption in the presets that was being introduced (something to do with the onboard expression pedal I think), and said bugs were eventually found a squashed with the release of 2.21. While you are on the latest rev that squashed the known bugs, it's possible that somehow the changes you were making triggered something that caused a corruption of the preset (i.e. a memory overwrite that Helix was not expecting) that caused it to crash. Just a guess on my part. I would say keep an eye on it, and try to remember what the last change you made was before the crash. See if you can get repeat behavior. If you can, please submit a ticket and describe what you do to repeat the bug and Line 6 can squash it (if that's what happened and you can make it happen again).
-
It's my understanding that snapshots only control what you tell them to control. Make sure snapshots are in "discard" mode so they "forget" changes you make as you switch between them and come back in the configuration you saved the snapshot with.

What firmware are you on?

Excellent question. I don't know the answer. And I don't own an LT (I own a Floor). On the floor, you can control sample rates, and I believe they added output volume control at some point (though, personally, I prefer to record out at Unity) But.... Given you are recording..... Have you thought of helping justify the extra expense of a Helix Floor (which has S/PDIF) with the savings you'd get on a Native license? (Plus all the other advantages) (and perhaps buying used? I got a used one from GC last year for $1200, it was basically new, still in box with plastic on it). (Really, in the end, you could cover the extra cost by just skipping taking the family out to the movies once or twice. Sometimes we value cost of gear too much when you look at it over the long term. For me, I don't plan on making any more major gear purchases for a while as the Helix covers soooo much, and will cover even soooo much more. Kind of bums me out I have to keep skipping those MF Stupid Deal of the Days, cause well, I don't need them anymore.)

Also, by design, The "Volume" option on amps does not color the tone as the "Drive" and "Master" options do, and is meant to allow you to balance your presets one to another.
-
IOW... No, they are not linked in most non-master-volume (nmv) amps
