  1. "Why would you need the pedal"? Because that is the only way to update the firmware. If you connect the RJ connection direct to a computer, you will fry some of the amp's circuitry or software. Updating the software has often been a solution.
  2. Yes, if you want the true FX and stereo sound you need to use the splitter from the headphone output jack. Do you have a FBV MkII pedal to connect the amp to a computer to see if you can update the software? It sounds like the amp has issues that will not be easily resolved without a technician looking at it.
  3. Have you tried adjusting the patch volumes and saving them as changed? The factory presets always had that problem - some were loud, others were very low.
  4. What problem do you have doing it? Open up the stand-alone version, and select your input/output device (the 4i4), you should be good to go.
  5. So you came back to whine? The amp is what - 10 years old now? The suspected "voltage issue" us not a system-specific issue, its most likely a component (or solder joint) that failed at some point. I had a Fender Bandmaster head that had to be recapped and power transformer replaced twice. Electronics wear out and can fail due to use/misuse/abuse. It's just a fact of life.
  6. Sorry, not understanding what you are saying. Of course, you need to plug the receiver into the amp if you are not using the Line 6 built-in system.
  7. I assume you mean that the straight-in plug on the receiver wouldn't fit due to the size/angle of the receiver. No, this won't do anything to the amp.
  8. You have to program the patches/sounds you want into the Patch Banks of the amp. You select the amp bank you want via the buttons on the front, then select the channel (A,B,C,D) with the FBV.
  9. I haven't used Cakewalk in more than 10 years, but have you armed a track for recording, and selected the HD as the input device on that track?
  10. First mistake - relying on Guitar Center guys' knowledge! No, you cannot update the Spider IV using an FBV3.
  11. What interface are you using? Did you buy PodFarm separately, or was it included with a Line 6 interface?
  12. Standard vs Platinum, yes that is the difference, more amp and FX models.
  13. As to the wah/volume - did you step on the toe switch? They are pretty stiff to change over, you can't do it by hand.
  14. Gearbox is old software, no longer supported. Whenever you got the UX2, it did not come with the full version of PODFARM 2. You would need to purchase this. Line 6 does not give you the option of downloading the full version and trying it out before purchasing.
  15. You should not be plugging in the Cat5 cable/FBV when the amp is on. (General rule for ANY amps/pedals/cables).
  16. Just pull the cable out and look at them, it will be easy to spot if any are bent out of place - then just bend them back!
  17. You should hear no difference in sound between the 2 sample-rate settings - from what an online search shows, the difference in sound could be from input gain differences. When running PodFarm as a plug-in the sample rate is controlled by the DAW; when running as stand-alone the sample rate is controlled by the AI settings. I think PodFarm only runs at 44.1/48, and internally converts if a higher sample rate is used.
  18. Which FBV MkII do you have - I assume the Express? What amp are you using? When calibrating the FBV you should not be plugged into the computer with USB. Have you tried a different CAT5 cable? Checked the pins in the amp and pedal jacks?
  19. What do you mean by 'custom effects'? Using the controls on the amp, you can adjust some of the parameters on each built-in effect, then save that patch into the amp (however you are limited to just 4 patches on that amp).
  20. No, you can't control individual FX with the Express, you would need to get a Shortboard for that. However, you can set up patches that do what you want, so for example in one bank you could have 'sound 1' on channel A, then channel B could have the same sound with gain added, channel C could have the same sound with gain + delay, channel D same sound with delay.
  21. You can't add a looper to the FBV3. Only option is to have the looper on the input (guitar>looper>amp). The main drawback of using ANY Spider amps is there is no effects loop - so you can't put any FX pedal (or looper) AFTER the FX of the amp. Basically this means, if you use an external looper on the input, if you change the amp's sound patch, the sound of your recorded loop will change, too, not just the new 'layer' you are playing over the loop. The only way to get past this with a Spider amp is to use the 'headphone/DI' output of the amp (which disables the built-in speaker), run that to the looper, then run the looper output to another amp or PA system/powered speaker.
  22. How are you using PodFarm - stand alone or plug-in? How are you getting the guitar sound into your computer?
  23. Just as in using ANY amp, you will need to adjust the pedal's sound settings to get the sound you are looking for. In other words, if you have the pedal set for a certain sound when playing through a Fender (or Marshall or any other brand) amp, or directly into a computer or other sound system, you will need to adjust accordingly.
