  1. Very nice indeed. This might be a silly question regarding using the headphone out as IEM, but I always thought using headphones would mute the other output. Is this not the case? In other words, could I route a lead singer's voice through the HD500 and then use phones as IEM for my guitar and her voice? Would be much better than a wedge monitor.
  2. Setting up delays is super easy on the 500x, using either the editing software (preferred) or the unit itself. Dialing in BPM is as easy as typing numbers when using the software. When using just the unit itself, the tap tempo is the way to go, or just turn the dial to adjust the milliseconds to taste. I hardly every dial in an actual BPM just because it can change so easily depending on how much caffeine the drummer had that day! I find the POD delays MUCH easier to dial in than a DD-7 or a Nova Delay. Haven't owned a DD-20 so can't compare it with that.
  3. I'm sure this is simple, as I'm just trying to assign the amp drive to be controlled by the volume pedal. I set its minimum and maximum values, but instead of the volume pedal panning between those, it just goes back to zero again when I move the volume pedal. All I have in the chain right now is just the amp and a volume pedal.
  4. I actually quite like the one that is just called "overdrive" and the line 6 models aren't bad either imo. I have noticed that dialing the overdrive back to about 50% and kicking the output level to 100% seems to help get a better tone that doesn't become mushy.
  5. Glad it's working great for you, same here. If you could share your wiring setup, I'd appreciate it. i.e. - are you using XLRs or 1/4" into a DI, etc... I've found the best results using the 1/4" into a DI box but always curious to hear what others are using and having success with.
  6. I believe you can use the POD as a MIDI controller to control the channels on the Spider Valve.
  7. I believe this will basically cut your signal in half since the XLR outs are at mic level.
  8. This all seems to be overcomplicating it to me, but maybe I'm missing something. I just use a 1/4" out (left) into a DI box, which has an XLR to the sound board. Then I use a wedge as my on stage monitor and just tell the sound guy what I need in that monitor. I don't really use stereo effects, so maybe that's why I don't seem to have an issue. Am I missing something?
  9. It sounds like you might be using this in a worship setting since you want the silent stage. If not, then it still might apply. If you have extra floor wedges available, then I'd use that as a monitor instead of your cab. Then use the 1/4" out on the POD into a DI box to the PA. This should get you the best sound from the POD without any modeling confusion. Bottom line though is unless they are willing to cage the drummer, a silent stage isn't going to happen.
  10. Step 1: Push the tuner button on the POD for a couple seconds. Step 2: Take another 30 seconds to tune down. Step 3: Enjoy
  11. $700? You got ripped off dude. Can you use either of those other things live?
  12. Makes sense. Not actually sure if they are global or per patch - I'll have to check!
  13. Thanks edstar - that explains why my signal seems weak when only using one XLR in mono vs. using the 1/4" into DI box method. I do switch it to LINE when I use the PA and AMP when I use an amp (mainly just at home for practice).
  14. Jeff - Sorry if this is obvious, but be sure the pedal is assigned to an FX slot, otherwise it won't do anything (unless there is another way that I'm not aware of).
  15. Not really sure if this is an issue or not but curious to know if others run into this. I normally have the "drive" knob on the HD500x set to about 15%. I usually use an AC30 model. But when I mess around a bit and try different amps out, the amps all seem have high gain on them when I switch to them. Then if I turn the "drive" knob to zero and back to 15% again, it's all fine. Question; should I just leave the drive knob at zero all the time, since I use a screamer for overdrive anyway? Would this really affect my clean sound if I did? It doesn't seem to. Is there a reason the amps all seem high gain when I switch to them but then seem normal when I switch the drive from zero back to15 again?
  16. I don't play nearly as much as most of the above and my sets/gigs aren't nearly as long, but for what it's worth I find the FS5-8 mode much easier to work around. But really it's obviously whatever works best for you. FS1 - Vol Pedal FS2 - Compressor FS3 - Noise Gate FS4 - Reverb FS5 - Delay 1 (dotted 8 plus 1/4) FS6 - Delay 2 (1/4 modulated) FS7 - Overdrive (screamer) FS8 - Empty since I use two delays on FS5 This isn't the order of the chain, just the FS. FS1-4 are usually always on, and I set the bottom switches to things I will usually turn on/off like delay and overdrive. I just use one amp/cab/mic combo and feel it works best for most situations (Vox AC30 with Blackback 30, 57 on axis mic). This would of course not be a good setup for metal though.
  17. I agree with the above who suggested just trying which combination works best with the PA. For what it's worth, I tried just the XLR out, and the signal seemed weak - but that could have also been the sound guy who likes things quiet. After using the 1/4" into the DI for a whole weekend retreat, it worked great, but also had a different and better sound guy. I have yet to try the dual XLR method but don't use any stereo effects anyway. I plan to try it all at my next practice though and just go with which one works best.
  18. I don't know if it helps, and I'm a new HD500x user, but I find I get great tone from my amp as well as our PA system. I just make sure to switch the POD to amp instead of line (button on the top of the POD). And I make sure my amp (already a modeling amp VOX Valvetronix VT40+) is set to manual so I'm not mixing effects with the actual amp. I do still use the amp modeling in my chain though on the POD, but I use the AC30 model most of the time with the Blackback speaker. Sounds great to me, especially since I just use it for practice at the house - I go straight to the PA otherwise.
  19. True, and I should have mentioned that I do have a compressor as my first pedal, and a screamer as my second.
  20. I haven't run into this issue at all, unless I switch from the current amp model I'm using to another one, and even then I just turn the drive knob to zero and then back to about 15% and it makes it clean again. I typically use the AC30 model with Blackback 30 speaker and use a screamer for distortion. But with the screamer off, it's perfectly clean sounding. And I usually have my guitar turned all the way up. So my guess is it could just be the drive knob (the physical one on the POD). Try turning it down and back up again and see if that helps as well.
  21. Thanks, just figured that out as well but it was too late to edit the post!
  22. I like the looper, but maybe I'm doing something wrong with it... I get a loop going just fine, but it seems any effect I turn on (like distortion or delay) gets applied to the loop. So if I want to lay down a clean backing track, or a delay loop, and play some lead with distortion, the distortion automatically gets applied to the backing track, which usually ends up sounding horrible.
  23. Yep, this happens if you don't hit the record button at just the right time. Took me a long time to figure this out when I first started using a looper. In SIMPLE terms, if your progression is for example G, C, D. Play it once or twice without the looper, then hit the record for the first time just as you hit the G chord, then again when you get BACK to the G chord again. You are likely hitting it on the D instead...or something similar. There are several youtube videos that explain it better, but that was my issue anyway.
  24. Oh wow, didn't even know I could assign more than one thing to the same footswitch. Sounds like that would do it then, will give it a try! Thanks. Worked great! I did need to use the software to do it though, wasn't quite able to figure it out just by using the unit. Was really easy on the software though.
  25. Did a search and didn't see this anywhere. Anyone know if it's possible to add a delay that uses both a dotted 8th and 1/4 but only by using one delay? Right now I have two delays in the chain activated by FS4 and FS5. I like using both delays together for a song during the verses but need to shut them off and turn on overdrive in the chorus. This causes me to need to hit three footswitches while hopefully playing the right chord all in time. Being able to cut it down to one or two switches would cut down the dancing a bit. I could just sacrifice the added 1/4 note, but I feel it adds a nice layer to the sound. Work arounds are of course welcome suggestions too.
