    HX Edit question

Welcome to the Helix party. You will have to copy and paste one block at a time. I’d try and align the two presets next to each other (1A, 1B). Warning. Save after EVERY paste.

    Marshall Silver Jubilee

Hi Folks, I don't have much depth with Marshalls and have read through some threads (too many, IRs, etc.). I'd like to copy a sound which leverages the Silver Jubilee and there are no shortage of Marshall choices. Using stock amp and cabs, what will get me closest to start? Thanks in advance.

    Gilmour sound question

I run a dual path after the amp with one chain having a cab and the other with the Leslie. This allows the signal to be 100% either way or any blend. Most of the time it is a blend which I use for a Gilmour patch and a Frampton patch. Although the Leslie can work as an effect, I treat it like a cab.

High Pass and Low Pass Filters - Settings

A Para EQ block following each cab block is where I adjust EQ and hi/low pass filters. I start at 80 to 7.2 but lately is seems I rarely stay at 80 and raise to 100-110.

    Using HELIX Looper 'live '

Clearly I am couple years late to the party but perhaps to help future ‘searchers’ through the forum, I found where I place the looper is important. To use the looper to adjust presets - record yourself and continually playback while adjusting parameters until desired effect - you place the looper FIRST in the chain. To record one snapshot, say rhythm, and playback with the same parameters and blocks as recorded, and play over it under a different snapshot, say lead, place the looper LAST.
  6. Hi Folks, I’ve searched and found bits and pieces of things that sound like my issue but not quite there. My Variax sounds fine magnetic. Modeled is another issue. If I am any modeled guitar, I have the issue but more predominantly when tuned 1/2 step down. The 6, 5, and 4 strings sound fine. Slight ‘wobble’ in the 3, increasingly works on 2 and furthermore on 1. If I strike the first string easily it sounds like two strings playing slightly off. This is not the acoustic of the string coming off the guitar, is is through the amp. I had a proper setup just performed as I’ve read some issues that were fixed this way. WHen I received the guitar secondhand two months ago I updated the firmware. Anyone experience the same problem?

    Helix USB stability

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try it over the next couple days and let you know.

    Helix USB stability

+1 same here. It isn’t prevalent but certainly happens more. In the past, I would experience this when the USB was plugged into an USB 3 port. Once I moved it to an USB 2 port it never dropped. Since the upgrade it has happened more but random enough I cannot find a pattern.

    That's it???

I’ve owned my Helix LT for about ten months or so. Like many of us here, I love it. Although I don’t take advantage of it currently, the platform is awesome. Developing and exchanging patches across various devices for various purposes is great. It was only a matter of time before this thread kicked up with no new ‘toys’ in the latest release complaint. Glad everyone loves the tuner. I truly think LIne 6 is harshly criticized by some for over delivering. In my ten months of ownership there have been at least three updates. Delivering all the legacy effects(for which I still haven’t gone thru many), many new amp models such as Placater, Cartographer, etc and many new effects. It hasn’t been that long since the previous release. Lot of people have requested metering. I’d love to see it to to help maintaining volumes. I imagine that is something the new refresh rate will help with. Either way my purchase has only increased in value three times now.. And the ecosystem keeps building out so I am learning SOOO much from folks here, YouTube, etc. Thanks to all for that.

    Helix Backup Plan

Greetings Tone-chasers, I’ve seen a few threads and mentions of a second Helix as a backup, or folks using an amp as their backup. Given all the effects and pedals and tones, an amp certainly lets the show go on but at quite a compromise. Those who use their own sound for all songs are affected a little less than those with presets of many tones but anyone playing live runs the risk. Anyway, has anyone have experience community sharing their device or a second device? I don’t play out too often but would lend mine to a local as a backup. A full restore returns it to its original state. There amy be conflicts in schedule but, when not, and folks reciprocate, it eliminates the risk. If damaged, it needs to be replaced and I suppose therein lies some possible trouble. But I find most people to be good. How much would you pay for the security? The small fee would help fund the next device. Any other alternatives besides a second HX or amp?

    Helix Backup Plan

Good thoughts and responses. My initial thought was the backup at the gig. Some mentioned leading up to the gig but I was thinking, “Man, if this dies in the first set...”. Since I don’t have a POD and I dont want to load tones into an old Flextone III and lug that 62 pounds around, I was considering alternatives. Hitting a store up doesn’t solve the issue of an issue at the gig. I thought about Native but couldn’t work that out given the current set up. Maybe I think that through a little more and come up with a solution. Guitar -> laptop -> USB/XLR out? And then I thought of a cost-sharing way other local Helix owners might take advantage of a backup device. But, as many have stated, it gets complicated and risky in a hurry. Anyway, I don’t have so many gigs at the moment and Helix seems to hold up well.

    Helix Backup Plan

Thank for the thoughts. Some clarification. My idea was to buy another LT for purposes of a backup for myself or anyone in the area to use. Not for profit. At first I thought I’d share my own as a backup and hope to find someone to do the same. Being local, I thought maybe you could get to know someone and have that piece of mind of the backup on gig night. The idea of a small amount was to simply offenses the cost a little at a time while people would use it without each of us having to buy another. Once fully paid, I’d be happy to share it. As for the FIreahwk, I will have to check it out as I never have. Maybe that is a solution.

Interesting GP article regarding multiband and Helix

Thanks as it was an interesting article. I haven't tried it but seems like a lot of DSP used plus the overhead in maintaining four amp/cab blocks. Any time I change the tone, mics, properties I have to replicate it three times possibly.
  14. Hi Tonechasers, I’ve gigged with the Helix straight to FOH and, with many of the tips from this forum, have transitioed pretty well from tones I’ve created home, through practice site and on to performance site. I’ve an outdoor gig approaching and was wondering what changes folks make to keep depth and clarity in their presets. Simple Helix->XLR->Mixer set up. IEM back from mixer. I don’t expect a sound man this time around. We may have someone for simply fader mixing but expect to set this on a decent sound check and let it ride. We’re hoping for an outdoor practice in advance but not sure if it will occur. Classic rock cover band so a preset per song with Snapshots within each preset display 4-preset top, 4 snapshot bottom. I’ve not leveraged GLobal EQ to date. The venue has a tarp cover and within an area enclosed with 6 foot fence. Thanks in advance for any tips.

    Need expertise in live setup

I’m having unexpected results from a ‘live’ setup. I’ve been playing Helix direct to sound boards and loving the simplicity. And those sound boards and sound men making it happen have been great but, mostly it has been pretty close to plug and play. My setup at home: Helix ->L6 cable or XLR->L2M Current band needed a mixer so the setup is: Helix->XLR->Behringer X-air XR16->L2M (pole mounted). Behringer has no EQ, simply defined input channels, we all plugged in, balanced and played. All my tones seems incredibly tinny. To the point where I switched from Bridge pickup to Neck pickup to adjust and, while it made a small adjustment, not that much. I realize the X-air has EQ of course but I naively thought it would simply pass through the signal. Is this expected behavior? Am I over looking something? I expect to tweak the setup depending on venue of course but this was in the practice basement. Thanks in advance for any advice,

Thank you. I will give it a try if it persists.

    Need expertise in live setup

THanks. I checked it out and no Phantom power enabled on any channel. Or any effects, gates, etc. I will wait for the next practice and see what I uncover. Perhaps something was connected incorrectly. Thanks for your thoughts. Very much appreciated.

    Need expertise in live setup

The L2M is being used for FOH in this scenario and was working this with no monitor. Eventually we will add monitors but we simply ran and listened through the FOH speakers. The L2M was connected via Main Left out of the mixer with another speaker Main Right, so I dont think Phatom power is in play.

Will we see a new firmware with any major update?

And MarkJarvis - I just checked out the link you produced. Great resource. Thanks.

Will we see a new firmware with any major update?

Interesting thread. Starts out with the never-ending when-do-we-get-more to the its-to-hard but keep it coming. It generated some good stuff. Micah912 - Thanks for sharing, great stuff. Cruison2 - awesome sounds and playing. The style are different but they inspire me to play something different, or better, or just play. So thank you.

USB input routing to separate output

USB input routing to separate output

Greetings, Setup context: PC->Helix LT->Behringer X-Air XR16->L2M I play iTunes from PC into my LT and play along with the songs, via USB. My output is XLR to the mixer. Is there a way to have the USB output through a different output channel from the guitar? Maybe my Line 6 proprietary cable? 1/4 out? Ultimately I want to record just my playing while playing along with the song but cannot do that with the output mixed. No DAW software on PC. Thanks for any ideas. I couldn’t find a global setting that made sense to me to do this.

    CAE 3+ preamp

I’m chasing an artist tone and a CAE 3+ preamp is used amongst others. Has anyone attempted to replicate this? I did not see anything for Helix in CustomTone and a search of the forum comes up with some WAH and mixer threads. I’m guessing the closest I would get is to replicate the three channels as separate amps. Thanks for any ideas or inputs.
  25. I’ve come upon similar features in technology. Some notes (metadata) would be great. MAybe even some tags. Just to help search and find different objects. (Yes, that would require a search :) ). It can be hard to keep track of all the places I’ve used a block. Once I find parameter changes I like, it would be great to implement it in other places. Which leads to my one change request. Add a folder under ‘templates’ titled ‘blocks’. In it have a single instance of every block (within each category) and allow me to declare the initial parameter settings. Line 6 settings are great but once we watch find what we like in many blocks, everything works as it does today but it takes MY values from these blocks instead of their defaults. Just a thought.
