  1. Stil using the Soldano Clean in 4cm with my amps dirt channel for live however this may be changing to the Litigator anytime soon. That amp really is great. I still love the Plexi BRT and have recently been having good high gain results by lowering the sag and bias X on the Plexi and juicing the front with an OCD. Gets closer to my Cornford than any other amp in Helix Also, Divided 13 amp into the allure ac30 IR with a bass cut at about 90 has some great straight ahead rock sounds to it
  2. Have you tried the free trial of Scuffhams S-Gear? If not then you should because it's fantastic I think you'll find that the results at the very least compare with your Helix and Kemper. Even ask DI
  3. The free Celestion download is an absolute belter Maybe it's because I use either a v30 1x12 open back or 2x12 closed that a mix v30 1x12 open and closed IR is just making Helix sound VERY familiar at the moment The Allure IR's are a step up from the modelled cabs but find them a little "safe" sounding
  4. There must be a way to do this in Helix. Cross patching the loops and using a harmonizer and compression/gain with momentarty switch bypassing everything
  5. Cornford MK50 Please Pretty please Make my life (load ins) easier (lighter) Ben x
  6. To be fair to Line 6 it isn't actually possibe to have seemless preset changes. To do this they would need to have a sepereate second Helix housed inside Helix with the new patch already loaded up... and for it to have the new patch already loaded up it would need also to be telepathic to know which of the several hundred option you were about to choose
  7. Lol try playing with a set of bagpipes. They pride themselves in how sharp their high A can be Seriously though, let's make drummers all use electric kits to go FRFR with some matrix cans behind them because that's the sound a recorded drum kit makes and screw you drummers it's all about the audience Then let's just all kill ourselves cause I genuinely don't want to live in that world!
  8. An electric guitar doesn't make noise without amplification and a speaker at the other end. The whole rig is just one instrument. That IS the instrument. It's like giving a saxophone player a reed, mouthpiece and valves but no horn section to make noise come out of... them replacing it with something completely different but that also makes noise and then try telling them it's the best sound for the audience and their original bit of their instrument for making noise actually sucked for the past 200 years or whatever. Oh but that's how a recorded saxophone sounds through a PA they yell.... Look, if you like playing live with FRFR that's great for you and you and whoever else... but there's far too many people that seem to look at us amp+cab guys like we are a) stupid and b) doing it wrong. No, the sound out front will not suffer. Yes, there are many benefits of using valves and guitar speakers on stage, least of which is dynamic range. No, using recorded guitar tones live is not always a good idea. Yes, wjat the musician on stage feels and hears isn't as important to the performance as any stage bleed an anal sound engineer might think the audience will demand refunds over (sarcasm for those of you without it) Nobody is right and nobody is wrong. If it works great. Just enough with the amp and cab bashing
  9. I had been using the Headphone Out on Helix for an IK Multimedia iLoud and occasionally appropriate headphones when all of a sudden it's started to distort At first I thought I was losing my mind or that the iLoud was broken but it seems to be the Headphone Out as I've checked it relentlessly. Is there anything really stupid I could have accidentally switched or changed that could cause this or have I just broke something? Cheers
  10. There's always one (or twenty) guys shouting for a "Line 6 original high gainer".... like there aren't a tonne already :/
  11. When they say there's been no change to the modelling doesn't mean there hasn't been a change in the 23rd gain stage levels curves dogs aunties cousins output level There was a big change after v2
  12. I think I better give this Adriatic thingy another blast. I set up the Tape Delay for 350ms and about 24% mix with 3 repeats for general "this could use some thickening" Delay needs I use the Elephant Man for 8th notes hooked up to tap tempo and a bit of modulation for things that have a "the delay is part of the riff" delay bit
  13. I had a serious romance with the Vintage Digital Delay for about two months. It really is excellent. However, I have found myself moving back to the Tranistor Tape model. There's just something about the "chime" of a good tape emulation that sits well with my ear.
  14. If we had assignable envelopes and LFO's then we could make our own autovolume effect
  15. Well... yeah lol. If I'm being sensible but I always feel a little exposed not having a backup that actually makes its own noise if you know what I mean? I have a Cube 60 that I use for jazz gigs but it's not really suitable for anything else. My backline at the moment is: Cornford Mk50ii Cornford 1x12 open back Cornford 2x12 closed back Helix Pedal Board Tech 21 Fly Rig A wee Fryette Power Station in the mix gives me a lot of options with that lot And if all else fails I still have my trusty Zoom MS-50g to fall back on. Played more than a few gigs direct with that little guy!
  16. Are there any issues with the exp pedals if not using the auto-engage? If I update and avoid these features should I be safe?
  17. Lol hey there, your cunning disguise didn't fool me! I had always planned to add a Fryette Power Station to my rig. Mainly to attenuate my amp back into Helix for FOH. Also for an ever present back up and possible stereo shennanigans However, after seeing what results can be achieved by simply running my preamp into an IR I'm not so sure. They have gotten considerably more expensive and I'm not sure what I will get in added benefit will be a worthy return for my money However I do need a back up and not sure if there's anything more suitable and portable. Could probably get a really fun amp for that sort of money. V30 or something. Ahh first world problems
  18. So, being the dumbass I am it took a post from a Yamaha representative on another forum for me to realise that running the preamp section of my amp into an IR then direct to FOH would be suitabley not crap enough for most gigs. Especially those where we have to do our own sound. (Which is strange because I used to do this with my Marshall JMP-1 all the time so should have known better!) My current rig is a Helix based pedalboard in 4cm with a Cornford Mk50ii. Although I'm rather fond of the Cornford clean channel I'm not fond of the pain-in-the-butt workarounds for making the Helix channel switch my amp. It has a 6 pin din and although I can make it work I have never found a suitably bomb proof connection or protection for the soldering required. Thus, I have been using the Soldano Clean full amp model for my clean channel in conjunction with the Cornford dirt channel. Last night seen me at a gig where we were having to do our own sound in a very large and very old museum. You can imagine the problems we were having already. It was for some curling Champhips after party so we ended up with several mics set up for speeches etc. and therefore I decided to give the IR -> direct soloution a try for FOH. It worked pretty well. As well as most attempts at stage mic'ing an amp anyway although maybe not enough for me to want to record in this fashion. Thumbs up. Although at one point I turned on my wah and it turned off my IR.... probably only lasted about three seconds before I turned it back off in a minor panic....but this is why we should bug check our patches thoroughly ;) Moral of the story: don't be scared to try giving front of house a direct feed from your preamp via your fav IR. An expensive external load box may not be necessary afterall!
  19. Might not sound too much like your muff but try messing with the industrial fuzz with an EQ afterwards. I find it to be the most fuzz like fuzz model on Helix
  20. Seriously though is this guy trolling?
  21. I heard it has an actual real tube inside Helix
  22. To be honest I go for redundancy rather than duplicate. I dont think my conscious (wallet) would allow for a second Helix!
  23. I had a G-System for years. The manual was actual garbage. One of the most important things I've ever read that has put me in good stead for understand most of the equipment I have had since was Laird William's "White Paper" on the G-System. He was a TC forum regular and obviously had a bad case of OCD and had decided to write his own manual. It really was quite brilliant. I often wonder what he is doing now. I would recommend anyone to give it a read even if they aren't familiar with the G-System as many parts of it will be directly transferable to a 4cm Helix Edit: I'm sure it's just a "Laird Williams white Paper" google search away
