  1. I am not a high gain connoisseur. They all sounded the same to me except for the POD Farm. I'll go away and play my Tele now...
  2. You can get a "chorusing" effect if you have a predelay parameter turned up a lot. A couple of the delays also have modulation and those can be made to sound pretty crazy if you go nuts with any of those parameters. If its just happening on one or two presets, it would have to be caused by something in those.
  3. Yes you can do that. You may want to play around with a Helix if you know someone that has one to see if it is a good fit for your needs. You may also find that you may want to consider ditching your regular pedal board and just put a couple key pedals (strymon) in the loops in Helix. Having everything in one box sure is handy.
  4. Only you can make that call. Depends on your personal budget and needs/wants.
  5. If it were me I would go out of a send from Helix to your board, then out of your strymon, to returns 1/2 on the Helix. Helix allows you to put those return signals anywhere in the signal path, so you can run them before the amp models if you wish, or after, wherever you want. Or you can run your guitar into your external board, then the stereo outs into Helix returns. The return as a guitar input is not optimal. They are not engineered to be a guitar input. Only the guitar IN is. Yes, it's possible.
  6. Helix has preamp models. So you just use preamps/effects into your power amps and you would be golden. You just leave out the cab/IR.
  7. A chorusing effect can be caused by many different effects. When you say "a few songs from the end" it started doing it again, does it do it on multiple presets and you happened to change to a preset that is causing it? Try creating a basic preset with just amp/cab. Does it do it on that preset?
  8. 1. G10T doe not output any power. 2. You will need the JTV battery to drive the modeling, not necessary for magnetic pickups 3. I am not familiar with the Variax XPS box. I would think that it would work though.
  9. I like it too. I've been using it for about 9 months now with zero issues. Just be gentile with the 5VDC power input jack.
  10. Open a support ticket with Line 6. They will take care of you.
  11. I take the transmitter out, the receiver blinks white forever until I insert the transmitter into guitar, then white continuously without blinking. I believe they are correct in that there is an issue with the transmitter.
  12. Yes, DRY/WET. I do that in most of my presets to retain articulation with the dry, but still have the delays/reverbs bouncing around.
  13. I have used some of the Helix preamp models in front of a Blackstar HT20 before and got some tones I really liked. Just play around with that configuration and see what you like. Definitely save up and get an FRFR speaker or two at some point. You will be VERY happy with that.
  14. I generally go: compressor, volume, drives, amp, mono modulation, cab, stereo modulation, delays/reverbs (some in series, some in parallel, depends on what I want) except for fuzz, most won't sound like crap in different placement, just sound different. You can look through some guitar setups in the link below to see the order of how they do it. http://line6.com/tone-templates/
  15. Does it freeze up when you are scrolling through the factory presets very quickly? Mine does that sometimes too (Helix Floor, 2.21). I think the unit freaks out because every time you scroll, it is loading a preset. When you spin the dial really quickly, sometimes it freezes. That's my experience with it anyway.
  16. I believe mine does the same thing if I don't put the transmitter into a guitar to make the micro switch. After a certain time, the receiver will blink red because it is not getting a signal from the transmitter. I'll test it later on my unit.
  17. Just use Helix for the effects just as if you were putting a pedal board in front of your amp. Many people have (and still do) put all their effects in front of their amp. http://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3d89ab58b4cb30605e3/application/pdf http://line6.com/data/6/0a06439c1814857b658e41b50a/application/pdf
  18. It may be the sound of your clean amp that is "breaking up" when it is pushed a little harder when playing chords, or digging in on single notes. When the amp model (and real amp) starts to break up, the tone is having some natural distortion introduced. The Helix models are that good in that they react the same as the real amps they were modeled after. That is just my guess though without hearing the actual sound.
  19. Feedback is definitely something I miss since we went isolated with IEMs at church. I just have to add more delay feedback and reverb mix to my swells to get them to linger instead of feedback.
  20. Yes, open a ticket with Line 6
  21. Get the number of red blinks on the transmitter, it is an error code, then start a support ticket with Line 6.
  22. Helix has captured it. Maybe show your sound guy at church how Helix works, specifically the cab models with the mic options and distances. That will show the elements that Helix is capable of. Believe me, they would rather deal with the direct signal to FOH than isolating cabinets, LONG runs of cables, etc...
  23. Yes, ask if they are OK with going direct. I go direct at church and it is much more easy for them to control since there are no variables. They just adjust the level coming out of Helix. Just have them set the EQ flat on your channel and you will be good to go. It is much better for me as well because the sound I dial up at home (through a couple of similar powered PA speakers), is what I get at church.

Find what is in your budget, and try them out in person if you can before purchasing.
