  1. If you go USB out to your DAW, then you will have all of your XLRs and 1/4" outs to go to external devices. You don't need your Motu interface for Helix. Helix is an interface. You have 8 inputs and 8 outputs over USB. You can have stereo wet over USB out 1/2 and dry going over another USB out (USB 7 is default I believe for dry)
  2. One thing you could try that I haven't explored yet is sending MIDI to your DAW that is running your tracks to control the volume there. That way you could run tracks to Helix on USB 1/2, but control the volume at the DAW end via midi from the Helix.
  3. In the back of the 2.0 User Manual, there is a list of Midi PCs and CCs that you can send to Helix. Note information (note on/off, velocity, etc...) is not on that list. That would be super cool though.
  4. It's not the Helix. Once you spend more time with the unit and get to understand how it works when producing sounds in a band situation, it is unbeatable. Almost always, when you get a tone you like at home, it sounds completely different in the mix. If you are able, record your band rehearsal into a DAW and try adjusting your tones along with the recorded rehearsal. After time, you will get the "feel" for setting up your tones for how it is going to sit in your mix.
  5. Me too. It sounds like a tremolo. I am glad skyfirez1 has found a tone he really enjoys though. If it works for you, go with it.
  6. Connecting monitors to Helix when it is used as the interface gives you zero latency.
  7. It can't be done on USB 1/2 with the Helix firmware as it stands now. I have explored this idea extensively and came to the same conclusions as you choosing between USB 1/2 and 3/4. I use USB 1/2 so I don't get the interruption while changing presets, but without being able to control volume with an expression pedal.
  8. The gain blocks also go up to at least +6dB (can't quite remember and I too am at work) ...or you can try the optical tremolo at the end of your chain. I hear great things about that.
  9. Since you cannot control volume on the amp side of things, I recommend turning the volume knob on the Helix all the way up, then control the volume of your output on your preset with one of the expression pedals, or put a volume block at the end of your chain. Yes, you will have to do that to every preset, but that is what you are stuck with having an amp with no power amp master control. It's either that or use an external volume pedal between your Helix and amp. Your sound person tells you to turn up/down volume to taste, they do not control it?
  10. The user has been posting that same statement on numerous other posts as a fix. I suspect he is trolling. I could be wrong though.
  11. USB to your DAW. There is no need to use a secondary interface since the Helix IS an interface.
  12. Don't get me wrong, I do like some subtle trem at times (bubble trem is my favorite for that). However, it is not a fix for gain staging through a signal chain.
  13. I don't think a tremolo effect will help with signal gain issues.
  14. The volume control on the Helix is a volume cut. You can still use it that way. If you need more volume for a particular venue, then I would turn up the master volume on your amp, and you still have a volume cut on the Helix if necessary. I guess I am not quite understanding the particular situations you are needing to bend over and adjust the Helix volume knob for. Are you just playing through an amp and relying on stage volume, are you mic'ing your cab through PA, etc... Your original post mentions running 4 cable method to a guitar amp, but your recent post mentions running through different power amps and playing in different live situations.
  15. Are you sure that what you are hearing is not noise from your guitar pickups? Amp model "fizz" is different than your pickups amplifying ambient 60 cycle noise.
  16. You should actually have the volume knob on the Helix turned all the way up. Supposedly, that is "unity gain" for the output when it is set to line level. Some players disable the volume knob for the 1/4" outs when connected via 4CM to ensure they are getting the full signal out.
  17. This won't help gain staging your signal chain.
  18. The Aux input is supposedly designed for active pickup instruments. Not sure about more dynamic range. FX return will work, but it is not designed to be a guitar input. It is unsure what the input impedance of those are, and you cannot change the impedance in global settings.
  19. Yes, just a little. Most powered PA speakers will hiss faintly when they are powered up. It doesn't matter when you are playing though. The hiss is barely noticeable at home.
  20. Try setting up a preset that is not 4CM, but going out to a PA speaker or mixer to test your Helix output without your amp in the equation. I am guessing the speaker out of your amp fried the Helix return, and not your Helix output. If that is the case, you can still use other returns.
  21. 1) Yes, you can put your HOF in a loop and control it just like all the other on board effects. 2) You can go from metal to bluegrass to jazz to blues to whatever... It will cover whatever you want to play. There is a wide range of amp/cab models. 3) for my playing style, I cannot tell the difference between Helix and tube/analog amps. I don't play real amps any more. Helix and a couple of JBL Eons. It is PERFECT for my needs.
  22. You can route USB 1/2 (your audio playback) to the XLRs (in global settings) and route your bass to the 1/4" out (in your bass preset).
  23. Lots of players use the Altos, even professional players. They are well within your budget as well.
  24. That is the problem when doing research on forums. 75% or more of posts on forums are concerning something negative about a product. Take this particular forum for example. Line 6 has probably sold thousands of G70s, but you have a relative small number of users on here posting about their issues, which occupy about 75% of the posts, and about 1/5th of those are users who did not read the manual or do not understand something about the system. Those represent probably less than 2% of all G70 users. Line 6 has excellent customer service and will take care of you if you have any issues.
