  1. I would start by taking the mixer out of the equation. I connect my PC to Helix via USB and you will get audio from your PC to the Helix via USB 1/2. In Global Settings>Inputs/outputs you will see the USB 1/2 level. You will adjust your audio level there. Then you can jam along with the audio with your headphones connected directly to your Helix. Connect your speakers directly to Helix. The big volume knob will control speaker volume. You can turn that all the way down when the kids are sleeping, and adjust overall headphone volume with the headphone volume knob. Adjust USB 1/2 volume in Global Settings to mix as needed. Once you have done that, then you can tweak some of the presets that you don't like so much to taste. Remember that other people's presets were set up monitoring through something different than what you are doing, also using a different guitar. So when you see a preset sounding great in a video online, your experience with the very same preset will vary.
  2. Are you opening the editor with the USB connected to Helix, or with no connection?
  3. A couple of 610s here. Scott at thehelixchannel.com uses 612s
  4. Also make sure the sample rate of the Helix and your DAW match. Helix defaults to 44.1 kHz.
  5. How about Motown vs Stax Records? Personally, Stax is where it is at for me.
  6. Ok, but what about the tuner? Am I right? Hello...anyone? This thread really isn't progressing, so why not totally derail it with some other philosophical sparring?
  7. Yeah, I wouldn't think a Pedaltrain bag would do that. Do you have a jealous band member that may be stomping on it when you aren't looking? I'd definitely open a support ticket again, then maybe call them to explain your situation, and your festival coming up.
  8. You have to update the PC editor software to 2.21 as well.
  9. Do a factory reset (FS 9/10 simultaneously while powering up, I believe) and try to flash again.
  10. What kind of case are you using? Sometimes a case can put too much pressure on the top of your equipment. The joystick could potentially bet having too much pressure applied pressing straight down on it.
  11. I'm about to put a Fishman Powerbridge on my Tele and run dual paths for piezo and magnetics on a single preset. So I may run path 1A for MP3 pads via USB 3/4, 1B for piezos, and 2A/B for magnetics.
  12. Are you using Helix just for effects, or are you using preamp models as well? You would set your levels the same as if you were running a bunch of pedals. Play with just your amp for your dry tone (all your effect blocks bypassed). Turn on an effect and normalize that volume to where it is about where you want it compared to your dry tone, turn that effect off, go to the next effect. Helix is no different that running a bunch of stomp boxes.
  13. Take it back to GC. Even used stuff they have to take back if it doesn't work. They should have at least tried to turn it on before selling it to you.
  14. Yes, the editor is "seeing" what firmware is on your Helix, but the help>about tells you revision of editor. You need to update your editor to 2.21, then things will work just fine for you.
  15. Yes, do it. Start off by just using distortions/ODs, and effects in the front end of your amp. Then start using just some of the preamp models in front of your amp with nothing else to see what the core tone sounds like. If you like it, use it! A ton of fantastic classic guitar tones were created before effects loops were available. So, you have a lot you can use with your Helix in front of your great amp.
  16. Try the spring reverb. That may be the drip sound you are referring to. Play around with the parameters to taste.
  17. You need to be running the 2.21 version of the Editor as well, or else it won't work properly.
  18. It is a perfect platform for P&W with the diversity needed for that type of music. I am starting to use mine to also play some pre-recorded pads on one of my signal paths, controlling volume with one of my expression pedals, with delays/reverbs added.
  19. If you have the option of taking your Helix to a music store to try some speakers at volume, that would be your best bet. There are lots of guys here on the forum that use one or two powered PA speakers and it seems to be enough volume for them.
  20. I am not at my Helix at the moment, so I can't explain precise steps. On the input of each path there is a parameter for gain in dB I believe. You can assign a foot switch to simultaneously turn the gain all the way down (-70db i think) on one path and turn the gain up (0db) on the other path.
  21. I think because the parameter set more matches a modulation type effect rather than the cabinet parameter set, and the rotary is probably not an IR like the cab models are. That is pure speculation on my part though.
  22. The faster you turn them, they will increase the rate of change in parameter. It is not linear.
  23. I don't use too much modulation, and when I do it is pretty subtle. My favorites are the Script Mod Phase (MXR model), optical trem, gray flanger, and bubble vibrato. Helix has more than enough modulation effects for me, and they are really well done.
  24. I only use Helix for ALL my effects and amps now. I sold all of my pedals and no longer use guitar amps.
