No, it is mono. The ring is used for charging the transmitter battery.

I don't think so. The G10 transmitter does have a TRS male, but I believe the ring is used for charging the battery when it is in the receiver base. It is not for audio signal.

Overdrives and amps are like wine and cheese... you have to pair them in a way that is tasty to you. I have found a few tasty combinations that I go back to almost all the time. You just have to find what hits your own taste buds. If you have a particular player's tone that you like, find out what they are using and use the modeled version in the Helix. It will be pretty darn close.

For me, I usually set up a preset per song, and use snap/stomp mode on those. You don't need instantaneous transition between presets since you are switching them between songs. I would venture to say that you can capture the tones of any one song in a single preset. I also set them up for the guitar that I would be playing on that song. I am now starting to transition over to some generic presets (not per song) that are more interactive. I am building presets with one or two amps, and a variety of effects using 10 stomp mode. I am running two external expression pedals for interactive parameter changes of amp drive, delay feedback, etc... I will probably have just 4-6 generic presets with different amp models, but the same work flow so I can just change presets for the type of amp it is build around. My new generic presets are called "Mesa IV, Plexi, AC30, Twin, etc...). So if I hear a particular song's guitar part is being played on an AC30 type amp, I just load that one up and it is close enough for me. This is going to save me time every week from having to build song specific presets, and I can just play more. I am not a tone chaser spending endless hours trying to "nail" a tone on particular recordings.

Good deal. Yeah, it gets pretty freaky with the intensity way up.

That would be my suggestion. I would use the Alto TS210 mic'ed as a last resort though. You can take the XLR out of the mic that they will be mic'ing you with and go directly into the Helix with it. Set you XLR out to mic level, and he should be golden. You can use the Alto at home too. I have a couple of JBL Eon 610s that I use at home, and direct out/IEMs at church. Setting up my tones on the JBLs translates over very well to PA since they are powered PA speakers themselves. Powered PA speakers usually don't differ in tone coloration as much as other types of amplification/speaker systems.

One of my favorites is to just drop in the Brit Plexi Bright amp model, turn the gain down to 6.0, then your favorite reverb, 4x12 Breenback25 cab model, Royer 121 mic model at 1", Strat on neck pickup, adjust volume on guitar as desired. Helix does clean, low gain, and crunch VERY well. My suggestion would be to not use the presets as an example. Instead, scroll through all the amp/cab model blocks with nothing else in your signal chain. Play around with your volume pot on your favorite guitar and see what it sounds like. Some of my favorite low gain amp models are the DrZ Rte 66, Matchless DC30, Hiwatt, and pretty much all the Fender models.

I play low gain only. The Helix is heavenly.

You didn't mentioning what you are monitoring your Helix through and the guitar you are using. Joe is also sitting nearly right in front of the amp. You may have to have a wedge pointed at you to get some of that same reaction in your guitar.

Here is what I do (my personal preference) for my playing application. I don't record very much. I build my preset with my favorite amp/cab and effects. I turn off all the effects, just leaving the amp and cab on. I set preamp gain at the edge of breakup. I then tweak the amp model's "master" to get around the -12dB range on my DAW through USB. Then from there, I mostly use ears. I will turn on one of the overdrives and set it to where it is approximately the same, or a little louder than just the amp. I turn that overdrive off, and turn on the next one and adjust. I go through that process with every effect in the signal chain. If you just drop in the factory default settings on some effects, they have a dramatic volume level change in your signal. The LA Studio Compressor and The TS808 are a couple that come to mind.

Any parameter change will make the "E" appear, even volume pedal position. I just ignore it.

Keep in mind that the tones you set up at home on the Turbosound system may not sound quite the same playing through whatever PA you do at gigs. Try to set up your tones at home as close to gig volumes as reasonably possible. Also, your tones that sound good at home may not sound quite right in the mix with the entire band playing. Not trying to burst your bubble, but those are all things to consider. Most of the time if you pick the same type of guitar pickup, amplifier, appropriate cab model, and a few of the similar effects of a track you are trying to duplicate, it is good enough. Once you start playing the guitar part on Run to You, everyone knows what song that is. They are not noticing that you are not using the exact same overdrive pedal as the original recording. It is REALLY easy to get caught in the "nail that tone" whirlpool that will just suck you under.

Every model block you put into your signal chain in between the guitar IN and the outputs of the Helix effect the overall gain/volume. Just comparing volume knob positions between two pieces of different equipment is not a genuine comparison of overall gain structure.
-
I wouldn't bother doing that either. They are made by others using different guitars, different monitoring systems, etc...
-
I believe you can change which outputs the global EQ effects. You can leave FOH unaffected, and just apply low cuts on global EQ for your monitor.
-
That can be expected when you (Line 6) is at the top of the heap in terms of modeling technology with the most I/O options, and the most user friendly interface on the planet. I understand the frustration from your perspective with all the people and hours involved in development, but... that's what happens when you are the best.

C'mon...it's Friday. You have to admit, it was kind of funny ;)

Here is where users share their presets. http://line6.com/customtone/browse/helix/ For me, the stock cabs and the free Allure IRs are sufficient for my needs. Half of my presets use a single stock cab and one of the IRs combined. http://line6.com/allure/ Give yourself a little time with the Helix. You will find the workflow VERY easy and intuitive. However, you are constantly trying new/different things and always learning. I have had mine for a year and it is still "new" every day.
-
One favorite per model would be sufficient for my needs. I seem to use the same parameters on the same group of models most of the time.
-
Thanks for the input guys. I will try the power bridge on my Tele first, in a passive configuration in conjuction with some of the acoustic guitar IRs that you suggested.
-
I have never seen a prompt on the Helix that says the preset has been edited and needs to be saved. Can you post a pic of the screen shot?
