  1. Helix works fantastically in the front end of an amp, it is just a matter of what you are trying to achieve. Many of the tones Helix users are trying to achieve are of some of their favorite artists whose rigs did not have effects loops either. You can run 4cm into your Marshall so you can run effects in its loop (on path 1), and also run into the front end of your Fender (on path 2). There are enough outputs to accommodate both. You can switch between them or run them at the same time. (Eric Johnson is famous for his Marshall/Fender combination) You can search some of the artist's rigs in the link below to get you in the directly you may want to achieve. http://line6.com/tone-templates/
  2. Also make sure that the transmitter is fully seated into the receiver, engaging the micro switch.
  3. It is something that you just have to be aware of. I play at church through G10>Helix. I use the volume pedal to mute myself between songs, and leave my volume pot on guitar up. I have a habit of always looking at the status light of the G10 before we kick off a song. If it is sleeping, I just hit the strings with the volume pedal down, volume pot on guitar up to wake it up, then open up the volume pedal to start playing. It takes about 1-1.5 seconds to wake up. You'll get used to it after a while.
  4. Are you pushing the transmitter all the way in until the small microswitch is engaged?
  5. It's not seeing it. Try a different USB port on your PC.
  6. Yeah, that's why I am waiting for Line 6 to ramp up some of their effects (reverbs, etc...) because I already "have everything I need" as well...
  7. Then try a single Alto 112 that you have available as well. Lot's of people here are very happy with their TS212 with Helix.
  8. Wow, really? I wish I knew this a year ago...
  9. If you do try a pair, be sure to start a preset from scratch. Just drop in your favorite amp model, cab model, and maybe a reverb/delay in between and see how it sounds without making any tweaks. I am on a much lower budget and play though a pair of JBL Eon 610s at home, but our church setup is all QSC for mains/subs.
  10. DAW to get "normalized" between patches/snapshots before rehearsal, then tweak to taste during rehearsal. It saves some time to just have to tweak to taste instead of having to make large adjustments. Our rehearsals are fairly short and we have to be very efficient with our time.
  11. Yes, you can go guitar>helix>DV Head. You don't have an effects loop, so you just have to go through the front end of the amp. You may find some good tones by using the clean channel of the DV and just using preamp models in the Helix. You are not going to hurt anything by using any other combinations of amp/preamp/cabinet models running into your DV, so you just need to experiment. The other alternative is running the Helix into PA. Then, you are building a complete guitar rig in the modeled world. Either way you do it, you can get some fantastic tones.
  12. Helix does not provide an amplified signal. You need to run it into an amplifier then to speakers, either a guitar amp to a guitar cab, or to a powered PA speaker system.
  13. I really don't have time. That's why I just used a very simple setup with almost all default settings (except for the specific ones I mentioned). You can slap it together in a couple of minutes and give it a go. There's no reason it should sound thin at all. I monitored the sound of this preset through two JBL EON 610s and also in some cheaper AKG headphones. I was using my SSH strat, sounded good in all positions. I was NOT trying to duplicate the tone in the original posted video. I almost never try to duplicate a tone. I just build presets that sound good to me. Just default blocks with a couple of parameters tweaked.
  14. You won't break anything by trying both. Experiment with the bass amp models too, you'll be surprised.

    Ernie Ball

If you use it as an expression pedal, you can control a lot of other stuff with it as well.
  16. I am using the vocal preamp a LOT now. I have also started using the Obsidian 7000 bass preamp/overdrive model in some presets. You have to tweak the EQ points in it and take the bass down a lot for guitar, but it sounds fantastic.
  17. I can't yet get myself to use chorus again. I guess all the chorus in the early '90s burned me out on it.

    Helix 2.21

That is normal. Immediately after the update, it rebuilds all 1024 preset slots. After that happens, you most likely import in all of your backups. Anytime you import presets, it will rebuild those preset slots upon reboot. ANYTIME you import ANY presets, it will rebuild those slots upon reboot. If you only import one preset, you may not notice the rebuild unless you are staring at the screen during the subsequent reboot.
  19. If you can responsibly afford it, have both. Then you can share your experiences with the integration.
  20. What's the quality like on those? I've looked at a few online, but have not had one in my hands.
  21. I've done just that. I hit a preset and almost blew my in-ears off (everyone else's in the band too). I apparently missed setting the gain staging/levels on that one. I quick visual reference can be a handy tool, just like a tuner makes quick work of tuning a guitar (even though we can all tune one without a tuner if need be).
  22. I had a couple of minutes last night to play around with the concept. I am using all 4 paths. I dropped in the Plexi-Bright amp/cab model (the only change I made was low cut at 120Hz and high cut at 10kHz). Both amp/cab models are identical. Path 1A is just dry to the amp Path 1B is simple pitch shift, slight pitch change sharp a few cents, with a 25ms delay, assigned to a foot switch Path 2A is simple pitch shift, slight pitch change flat a few cents, with a 30ms delay, assigned to a foot switch Path 2B is simple pitch shift, no pitch change s, with a 35ms delay, assigned to a foot switch This setup has a mono output because of the amp/cab models at the end of the chain. I did no panning to get any kind of spread. I only had a few minutes to mess around with it, but it sounded pretty close at this point. I did change the delays to 20, 25, 30ms respectively because it was sounding a little "phasey". It sounded a little tighter after that. I think it was a good start to something useful. I may start to incorporate one simple pitch block at the front of some of my patches with a slight pitch offset and delay to widen the sound a bit.
  23. You are probably correct that they are using more than just delay, but you can do those things as well. I am looking forward to fiddling around with the concept this weekend.
  24. Ah, got it. The size of the speakers on the Amplifi will be somewhat limiting depending on your needs. It also has built in modeling, which is redundant. You wouldn't be able to get the most out of your Helix going through the Amplifi 30 system. I use a couple of 10" powered PA speakers at home, and stream music from my iPhone through the Helix USB connection (not sure if iPod can connect to Helix). I can play those at very low volumes if needed, as well as shake the windows. I build my patches at "gig level" with them, practice along with streaming music with them, and just listen to music on them sometimes. I don't know if that solution is right for your needs though.
