Record Dry Signal and Wet signal at same time: With separate interface
CraigGT replied to phantomofalfred's topic in Helix
Like rd2rk said, you can simply put an effect send first in your patch and that will output the dry guitar. I know you said that you didn't want to use the Helix as an interface but left right and dry are all available on the USB at the same time and don't forget about the Native plugin for your DAW. I'm quite excited to play with the Lonestar amp, one of my favourite clean patches is Greg DeLuanes Lonestar patch. Craig
-
It's a good point though, has the modelling process evolved so that the newer amps are modelled better? Craig
-
And it will give you something to do while you're waiting for the update :-)
-
I must confess that I've spent a few pound on IR's but someone pointed me towards this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8Qrt-Q79U4 Just follow what he does but change the amp to an Interstate Zed on defaults, woah :-) Craig

Both, the legacy effects are new to Helix but ported from older pedals, the existing reverbs in Helix were originally ported in too so they're being moved to legacy and new ones added. Craig
-
So I just did a quick test with a reverb in a loop and there is a short glitch when the patch changes but the reverb carries on after that. Is that what you wanted to know? Craig

I'm using a full Helix floor on fw2.3 I did start at snapshot 1 and save the preset everytime before moving to the next snapshot. Craig

I came across this using HXedit the other day and found that if I set my Helix to Recall instead of Discard then I could set the snapshots up ok.

But if you could use the Helix as the midiport then you could lose two boxes. I must assume that the Helix as a midi port isn't fully specced, maybe it doesn't handle sysex or something.
-
I was doing something similar yesterday, using CC 102 in a Instant command in HX Edit and saw similar weirdness with values overwriting previous ones even though I saved the preset after every snapshot. I found that I had Snapshot Edit set to Discard in the preferences, when I changed that it worked as expected. Once I had the preset saved then it didn't matter what the setting was. Craig

That's good to hear, I take it from the fact that you're using a merge box that you couldn't get it working using the Helix as a midi port either?
-
I've used Nixie on my pedals (with the latest updates) but I couldn't get Nixie to see my pedals if I used the Helix as the midi port so It's been one of the other for me. I presume the midi out from the pedals is going to your pc and you're just merging the inputs? Craig

Actually Marco Fanton made a pretty good sounding JC-120 patch Craig

Thanks for all the info guys, I'll report back when I've had a play. Craig
-
Yes but some of us are in different time zones 😠Craig

I go into the return of a Tubemeister TM36 and I prefer it with cabs/IR's on too. I'm sure others will disagree but it's a case of personal preference. Craig
-
If you say that the JC-120 doesn't distort well then I will have to assume that the tone comes from the pedal. Craig
-
Thanks Brue58ski thats good information, I'm think that Steve Rothery must have the amp pretty clean for all the sparkly chorusey stuff so does the distortion come from the pedal or does it just push the amp over the edge? Craig
-
I was looking into building an all in one Steve Rothery patch and it seems that his classic soaring lead tones were a Boss DS-1 into his JC120's!, I know that the Stupor OD is based on the Boss SD-1 but are they alike or is there something that sounds more like the DS-1 in Helix? Thanks Craig

I've also found that with some amps the loop send level needs to be -9dB, if this is the case then you need a gain block after the loop because the receive level can only go up to +6dB. Craig
-
Here's a demo of what I mean, The 1st chord is played with the loop set at the default 0dB, the 2nd is set at -6dB and +6dB as I said earlier. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xxozg1z0a9ydaif/Strymon%20Timeline%20Test.wav?dl=0 Craig

I just ran my Helix into the effects return on the DT-25 but I found that the Helix and all those power stage topologies just added up to too many options so I sold the DT-25 and bought something simpler. Craig
