  1. I've never had an issue using my Boss TU-2 Chromatic tuner as a splitter, using both 'Output' and 'Bypass'. Of course 'Bypass' won't be silenced when you press the pedal like 'Output' does. It may not be perfect but it's easy enough to experiment with if you have one.
  2. Off topic but are you, by any chance, a wild and crazy guy?
  3. This is the first time I've worked with I.R.'s. I dropped in these M.Britt IR's (MB) to go along with his presets and expected them to show up under the word 'Mono' where IR 1024 and IR 2048 are, because that's kinda how most things are displayed on the right when you select something on the left. And after much confusion I saw they adjusted via the 'IR Select' slider. Is this the way IR's work on the Helix? The MB name circled to our right in the screenshot is the correct one for that preset. Is 1024 and 2048 a reference to their sound quality/the way they are processed?
  4. That is sweet! Thanks for what looks like a lot of effort.
  5. Do you have an amp? If so, you could start using it with 4 cable method first to get a bit more familiar with it before making the next large purchasing decision. There's lot's of info on doing that but the gist is bypassing your amps pre-amp while using its power section and speaker(s).
  6. Ah, the thing I miss the most; more than many things in life, about playing with my decades long friend and bandmate who had to move away. The interplay; just knowing it, feeling it; and doing it, without needing words or cues. Always a balance right for the moment. It wasn't always that way, hehe. Note: Definitely not professionals, just fortunate enough to have been able to jam together a very long time.
  7. Silver - Whatever works for you of course, but I wanted to note a consistent practice of mine is to not get hardware that has to have software loaded. Logitech hardware is pretty rock solid but I quit using their apps over a decade ago. This is my approach for any branded peripheral etc. I buy. Avoid required background apps. I'm using a Logitech mouse, keyboard, joystick and web cam with no apps loaded. Just the Windows driver for each that loaded and just always seems to work.
  8. Sorry IT guy. I call BS. And one of the biggest pains in communicating with IT staff when you know WTF you are doing and have troubleshot thoroughly is exactly because of your premise: "If it's compatible it always works". Since the IT folks believe this fallacy the general take is always "well it couldn't be us/our systems so it must be you". The more obscure two drivers or apps are; the smaller the userbase, the more likely there may be incompatibilities because they just aren't tested together while still having the 'X' factor of another component on the end users PC being an issue as well. And I would say the userbase for both that Logitech software AND Helix are pretty small relatively. Been dealing with this since I bought my first PC in '92 and it's the main reason I keep my PC's very clean, and image often. Fewer glitches and I can back out of bad driver loads etc..
  9. LOL! Quite the topical reference.
  10. It's an insanely great forum with many helpful experts, and I've saved this post, which became a tutorial for me as well, in the end.
  11. The gist is, if you have trouble with using front USB ports, try the back ones. And if you have trouble with one on the back, try another one. I've just seen posts where changing from one to another works (USB 2.0 vs. 3.0?). I wanted to add clarity because when I see 'hub' I still think of the old school USB hub on the desk or shelf. But the front USB's on your PC are likely a 'hub' as well; multiple ports sharing one cable path to the motherboard.
  12. LMAO at this. Straight up, 'old guy don't give a crap' truth. I feel fortunate that I love my Helix coming through all three audio sources I am using; Powercab 112+; JBL305s w/sub monitors; Fishman SA330x w/sub. Each is different but they all sound good to me relative to their purpose and I never get caught up in how one is coloring the sound vs. another but only think "does it sound good with the music I'm currently playing?". Part of that might be my Strat always sounds like my Strat and between pickup selection and volume/tone I can easily tune it.
  13. It's just smart work management. No different than us using Infor EAM at work and requiring staff to submit work requests rather than verbally telling someone in maintenance they just ran into, who now has to remember three tasks those helpful staff laid on them as they walked across the facility, and write them down if they remember them, and enter them into the system themselves.
  14. Note: I deleted my posts last night because I was critiquing the player and not answering your questions, and since I knew many here could answer them far better than me. That said, Soundogs post reminded me of one thing I noted that I believe is relevant. Try the Variax non-VDI. Or the Strat. The Variax does great on a lot of stuff but via VDI it was not working out for me on anything with finesse/nuance. It does fine via 1/4", no battery, as a regular old guitar. Relative to the songs you posted, I would likely be frustrated doing the shuffle on the processed Variax, but it would probably do fine on the Ray Charles tune as it has more things to mask it's imperfections.
  15. ...and where are you placing your phone? Try shutting it off just to rule it in/out.
  16. The experts here; like rd2rk, will help you get it sorted out. And there are quite a few helpful, and knowledgeable, folks here. I feel fortunate to have this forum and the support of the experienced user base, without all the noise some forums can have. It reminds me of my Usenet days, when you could drill to a specific dot dot dot (and there were many dots) topic and get a solid answer within 24 hours. In learning the Helix, I honestly spend half my time researching and the other half playing and experimenting.
  17. Turn the Helix off. Hold buttons 5+6. Continuing to hold, turn the Helix on. That's what "on boot" means. When you turn it on.
  18. .....where you could save specific posts, or comments, that you know you are going to need down the road. Reddit has it, for example, and it is invaluable to me. 'Commenting' to pseudo save is just too sloppy and adds noise. Thanks to all the great 'tech support' commenters here. Right now, I'm just copying posts that I think I'll need in the future into an ongoing text file.
  19. Damn, I wish this forum had a 'save' feature, where you could save specific posts, or comments, that you know you are going to need down the road. Reddit has it, for example, and it is invaluable to me. 'Commenting' to pseudo save is just too sloppy and adds noise. Thanks to all the great 'tech support' commenters here. 20. That's what I assumed right when I read the second post. Way too niche in an already niche, and competitive, market.
  21. I have the Fishman SA330x (w/sub), which is the same concept as the Bose L1, and what I've been testing the last two nights, is pushing everything through it (Vox, Helix, Bass/Drum tracks), and using nothing else, and it has been holding up in quality perfectly. Similar to what Robbieb61 stated, I have tested the Fishman pushed in the corner of a 'top of L', of an L shaped basement, decent size but not huge, and I was stunned as I played that it sounded exactly the same in every location, and even when in the 'bottom of the L' without direct line of sight of the Fishman PA. I've never experienced anything like that. Even my various Sonos speakers change in sound EQ/level depending on your location, and drop off quickly when around a corner.
  22. I think that's been the greatest benefit for me. It has inspired and motivated me to experiment, learn new things, and just play more, because of all the options on a Helix and the quality of sound. I can't say I'm playing a LOT more than I was; some, for sure. But I'm definitely doing more focused and productive practicing, and learning, when for the longest time I've just been goofing. I was having fun goofing and there's nothing wrong with that, but I'm enjoying this change. I'm spending much less time on the computer, and zero time gaming, and spending most of my solo free time learning about Helix and experimenting. I feel like I am at 'Progression Level 2%', and that's ok.
