  1. I agree with edhaywhat. If Line6 let us have user loaded IRs and a normal looking EQ, hell I'd pay for that upgrade. If anyone, including Line6 comes out with that feature at all, I'm buying it. AXEFX has it but I can't justify spending $3000 for it.

Ooops, I think the Editor I'm using is old. Keep up the great work on the tunes. I'd really like to hear your new songs when you have them ready.

I used the PODHD500 Editor to bring up your settings. It showed something confirgured for a Variax guitar and no amp model for the Solo patch. I wouldn't want to see you emulate Steve Vai's song structure. I was just using him as an example of the suggestions I made. Sometimes shorter solos and more song structure variations can have a more dramatic effect. Great job though...

Very Steve Vai like. My only suggestion would be to shorten up the intro and maybe the solos a little. I thought the solo was great but when you listen to some of Vai's music, he sometimes doesn't take them out for too long before going into a differant section of the song. Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm only trying to be constructive. Your guitar work is excellant. Your tones were excellant too. I noticed on your solo patch that you didn't have any AMP model. Is that correct ? btw - I could only listen to the first song. I didn't have access to the others.
  5. Turn up Early Reflections on the Amp model and see if that helps.
  6. Atleast for me it's never been about brand loyalty anyway. Whatever sounds and works the best is the one I buy. When I bought the PODHD is was the best out there unless you wanted to spend 4 or 5 times more. And from what I can tell that hasn't changed yet. Sure it'd be great if the PODHD had an EQ that didn't have the worse interface ever dreamed of, they supported user installable IRs, they had more amps modeled, etc... but they don't and probably won't until someone like Digitech puts out there next product and gives Line6 a reason to step it up.
  7. I'm not even going to install this Firmware update. I'm real happy with the PODHD, it exceeds my expections for something < $500 bucks. But I think the next 6 to 12 months either Line6 or Digitech or somebody will exceed the PODHD enough to make it worth switching. With more and more devices supporting IRs, and hopefully user installable IRs, I think there will be a big leap in tone quality. And hopefully Line6 will start doing EQs again that look and act like an EQ.
  8. Do they also blindfold you and tie one of your hands behind your back ? It disappoints me when I hear stories like this.
  9. I use the PODHD into the effect return of a pair of Marshall JCM900s. I mostly use the PreAmp models in the PODHD and use Studio Direct out.
  10. This is not unheard of with tube amps. I doubt the POD had anything to do with it. As guitarno said, check for arcing and other signs of burnt components. Be really careful when working on tube amps, capacitors can put out enough voltage, even with the amp unplugged, to cause serious injury. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, take it to someone. How old are the tubes ?
  11. Hmmm, does the Dynamic Delay output the delayed sound to one side and the dry to the opposite ?
  12. I've been both old school and digital, and do a little of both now. Old school, I swapped tubes, tried differant bias settings, fiddled with knobs on stomp pedals and fought noise and hum. I prefer digital through tube power amps. I get my old school tones with a lot less noise and hum plus it's easier for me to press a few buttons than re-cable stuff. The icing on the cake is playing live in stereo. I finally had a chance to do stereo through a 48,000 watt PA system the other night. That was cool... As far as digital gear becoming obsolete, I typically get 4 or 5 years out of it before upgrading. Most people don't keep cell phones that long. To each their own. We can all learn from each other and it's great we have a forum like this to share ideas.
  13. Connect your PODHD to your PC and use the HD Edit software. It makes it easier to work with. Then it's kind'a like connecting stomp pedals to an amp, except your doing it on your computer screen.
  14. Multi-tasking is a nice word for doing too much !@#$ at once. I'd rather do one thing at a time and try to do it well then screw up 6 things at once and have to go back and fix it. But sometimes we don't get that choice. That's why we have the F word.
  15. Sounds like something USB went bad. Either the cable or port itself. Swap the cable with, for example, your printer cable and check the POD's USB port for damage. These problems are not unheard of but they're not typical. However they are frustrating when you end up being one of the people it happens to.
  16. I've never seen Line6 reply on this forum, much less call someone on the phone.
  17. Sounds like you need a vacation...you sound a little stressed.
  18. I do this exact thing for live use. Really makes for a big sound. It helps when recording too but multiple takes is still better. After the amp block you'll have Left and Right signal paths. Place a Delay at 20ms on one of them with mix set on 100% and of course make sure to pan the mixer for full Left and Right too. Here's an example: http://www.childrenofthegraveband.com/AngelHvyPre.hbe
  19. But just by observing the tone, it will change it.
  20. Is your question: Is there a way to allow delay trails when switching from one patch to another ?
  21. I found this old post. It may help... ===================== Just spent the morning with these 2, side by side, comparing the sound and feel of each one... I had the DT25 prior to the L3T, cause I wanted to get the best guitar tone possible from my dream rig, and to be in control (for the most part) of tone and volume wherever I would play, and not the sound guy. The DT25 is great...I mean, really great! Sounds awesome and has a great feel. Plus, it's really simple and easy to get the tone your looking for, and on the fly if needed...I'm really happy with it! I got the L3T to replace a Bose L1 compact I had. I needed something more powerful than the Bose so I could have a sound system for my keyboard, voice, and acoustic sounds from my JTV. So, this morning I had them playing side by side. The HD500 was going to the DT25 thru the L6 link and to the L3T thru the 1/4 jack output. I got a loop going on the POD and started cross fading the volumes, and at first I though...WTF!?!? The L3T sounds hooooooooorrible!!! It seemed like a totally different preset/guitar/amp model going on, and I mean TOTALLY! I tried the input on the back, the input on the mixer, and chaging the mode on the L3T. It got really better when in "electric guitar" mode, but still, way off the DT25 sound. I also tried going from the POD to the L3T via L6 link, but still I wasn't happy with it... After quite some time fiddling with I/O, amps, EQ's, etc, I realized that if the 2 were connected at the same time, sound on the L3T would be awful, but not if I disconnected the L6 link on the DT25. The POD was changing automatically the output to power amp and so the sound on the L3T got terrible. I then tried again the L3T, with no other connection, and the correct output set on the POD...VOILÃ!!!! Instant great tone!!! After that, with only really minor tweaking, the L3T was sounding awesome in PA mode, better still in electric guitar...I mean, it got sooooooooo soooooooooo close to the DT25 to the point of getting me wondering about actually needing the amp! Sure, you can still just tell them apart, specially in terms of feel, attack, etc, or if only because the speakers are totally different, but having the tone so closely matched, and being able to also play acoustics (which I need), plus keyboard and voice in 1 single package, really makes the DT25 redundant, at least for me! I'm really thinking about returning/selling the amp now. My only doubt has to do with one of the main reasons I got the amp, which was to get an even tone/volume wherever I played, since the amp would be micced, but I don't know how well/faithfully will a sound guy be able to mic the L3T, if at all...I had one telling me he wouldn't at all, he would just get it straight out of the pod, but that would defeat the tone/volume control I want, and hand that over to him. Sorry about the long post, but I had to share my amazement for the L3T sound compared to the DT25
  22. General purpose OS and CPU versus Realtime OS and very specific CPU. It's like asking why my Toyota Camry doesn't go as fast as a Ferrari. But try taking the Ferrai to the grocery store then taking your kids to soccer practice.
  23. I agree with you 100%. I'm not unhappy with the PODHD, it sounds very good. I just know my next purchase will be for a modeler under $700 bucks that supports user loadable IRs. And if it came out next week I would buy it. Now that I've heard what IRs can do for tone and the huge number of IRs to choose from, it really opened my eyes.
  24. Hmmm, this is interesting. I tried my PODHD bean using the 4cm method with a Marshall JCM900 just to see if it would work. Seemed to work great and didn't notice any sound coloring. But maybe it's not as noticeable with high gain tones. I didn't try any clean tones.
  25. This is why I like this forum. Something that should have been obvious for me to try but didn't. Full Amp, no cab model, into tube power amp and cab. I've been using PreAmp with cab into tube power amp and cab. I'm really happy with my tone and feel but when I can press a few buttons and maybe get something better, what the hell... Just for grins, I backed to back my Marshall JCM900 with new ECC83s tubes in the preamp and new EL34M power tubes versus the PODHD into the JCM900 power section. It's really hard to tell the differance, other than the PODHD has less noise.
