  1. I would suggest the EQ between the POD and your amp, that's how I did it. But try it both ways and see which works better for you. The only right way is what sounds the best for you.
  2. I use a pair of Marshall JCM900s and run my PODHD into the FX returns of them for a live stereo effect. I use a single amp model but place a delay on the left output with a 20ms delay to give it a wider sound.
  3. I've used the Poulin LeCab2 plugin and Guitar Cab Impulse files inside of Cubase. It worked really nice. I wish the PODHD would allow user installable IRs.
  4. I use the PODHD Studio Direct into the FX return of Marshall JCM900's, I use the Pre-Amp models with Cab/Speaker/Mic. Did the 4cm method and liked this other method better. Whatever works...the only right answer is what sounds right. It's a pain in the arse that there's so many differant ways to connect it up. But the great thing also is "There's so many ways to connect it up".
  5. Combo Front Stack or Studio Direct Out and all those other settings are just differant EQs. If what you're doing sounds bad then try another setting. There is not absolute correct setting. What works on one amp for one person may not work for another. I'm sure when you tried it in the store, the sales person had it tweaked to sound good for the amp he demonstrated it on. It wasn't just a random selection, I'm sure.
  6. I can't see ANY products listed on their website. But I was able to check their Legacy Products and none of the PODHD products were on the Legacy page.
  7. Here's an amp for Line6 to model. The Silvertone 1448 Guitar Amp in Case.
  8. Solid State doesn't get better with more volume.
  9. Wow, I better sell my Marshall stacks quick before everyone finds out about this... Yes that was heavy sarcasm.
  10. NAMM is next week. Hopefully something will come out of it. btw - even the AXE FXII customers are complaining about running out of DSP. Atleast we only paid around $500 bucks and not $3k. But this subject has been beat to death, then back to life, then beat to death again.
  11. Before using one of the EQs and taking up an effects block, try using the CAB Parameters, assuming you are using a speaker Cab. Low Cut and Resonance Level can make a fairly significant differance. Between that and the basic Bass Mid Treble and Presence, you may be able to dial in what you need. I would suggest using the EQ as a last resort. They are also clunky to use. But to answer your original question about where they are typically used. Where ever it makes it sound better. I typically use it either at the begining of the effects chain or after the amp/cab but before other effects like delay or reverb.
  12. 10:00am is very early ??? Wow you must be a professional musician...
  13. I used to have a POD 2.0, actually I still have it somewhere. It will take a while to figure out the PODHD because it has a TON more stuff than the POD2.0 plus is extremely flexible in its routing.. This is a no brainer with the sale at Sweetwater for $199 bucks. My only suggestion is hurry up while the sale is going on.
  14. NAMM will tell us if there's anything coming. Besides, I've never seen Line6 get on here and say anything about updates.
  15. Go buy an AXE FXII. They have the same DSP limit issues but cost $2800 bucks. Atleast then you'll have a reason to whine.
  16. DeAllen bought two of them. I guess he deserves to be twice as mad. Show us something better for under $700 bucks. As I posted before, even the AXE FXII has DSP limit issues. The new DSP in the X series, at best, might get you one more effect, if you're lucky. So it doesn't fix what you're asking to have fixed.
  17. Even the Fractal AXEII has DSP limits with their high def amp models. Just read their forums and see the people complain about it. Now if I spent $2800 bucks and got a DSP limit reached, I'd be real unhappy. I can understand people being unhappy with the X series coming out after buying the regular PODHD. I wish there was a way to upgrade the DSP chip but there isn't. So what's Line6 supposed to do ? Stop making the PODHD because they can't get the old DSP chip anymore ? No, they put the new chip in that is a little bit faster and the marketing people did their job to sell it. You can get upset and sell your PODHD and go back to the X3 and say "I'll show them". Let me know how that works out. I'll stay with my PODHD and be happy that I have something really nice for a very good price. When something comes out that's better for a reasonable price I'll buy it, no matter who makes it. And if that doesn't let me put in anyting I want in every slot, well atleast I have the flexibility to try anything I want.
  18. I went back and tested my high gain tone at normal live playing volumes - which is loud. With the input set on Guitar/Same I had some occasional squeeling feedback that isn't there with the inputs set at Guitar/Mic (I have the PODHD Desktop). It seemed like the signal was almost too hot but didn't notice any clipping. Probably some adjustments elsewhere could have fixed it, but setting the inputs to Guitar/Mic made everything work fine. Didn't notice any differance in tone or feel. I'm using the Angel Pre into the FX return of a Marshall. Setting the inputs is something I believe people should be aware of and try differant combinations. Sounds like differant amp models or setup combinations will have varying results. But knowing the input settings can have an effect is good to know. Thanks to everyone for all the great information they post in here.
  19. Now that should make PODHD customers frustrated...
  20. Maybe the few people I hear saying that can't get a good tone from PODHD are just clipping to some degree. If there was an easy way to let people know that something is clipping then they would know what to fix before giving up and taking it back or selling it. It tells us when we're out of DSP, it'd be nice if it said something is clipping. But I'm asking this question about a company that built an EQ that used Percent instead of HZ... Maybe that just answered my question.
  21. I went back and tested my PODHD switching back and forth between Guitar/Same and Guitar/Mic - I have the Desktop version. My tone is a Noise Gate, Tube Compressor, Angel-Pre, Stereo Delay, Stereo Reverb. And when I switch it to Guitar/Same it is slightly louder, and I mean very slight. Actually the only differance I hear is when the tone starts to fade and I switch it from Guitar/Mic to Guitar/Same. During normal play I can't tell at all. But this could be due to the Compressor. I'm going to do some more testing but at high volumes to see if feedback is more of a problem and of course to see if there's any differance in tone, feel, noise, etc.
  22. I occasionally use it for fading in an octave up tone so it sounds like I get that harmonic feedback sustain tone.
