  1. Yes, it's too much to ask... I can't guarantee many things on the forums, but I do know that Line 6 isn't going to be updating Gearbox. Have you tried using Line 6 Edit? The XTL was discontinued over 10 years ago. I just don't know of any company that would continually support a piece of editing software for that long.
  2. In the first batch of LTs produced, one of the metal stamping machines was creating a defective part that ended up affected a small percentage of units. Line 6 will replace any unit that has this defect. Open up a support ticket if you have this issue.
  3. Did you have Line 6 Edit closed when you tried to open Updater?

Here's what it looks like for me... There are two tabs available for creating a new post - "Content" and "Poll": If you don't see that tab, it might be that it's not available to everyone...

Congress is this close to appointing a special counsel to investigate the Helix tuner...

It's been done over on TGP: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/helixs-tuner-how-do-you-feel-about-its-stability.1825918/ You can start a poll here if you click on the "Ask a question" or "Start New Topic" button. There's a poll tab on the dialog box that comes up.

I like it... I honestly do. I have like a half a dozen headstock tuners, and still occasionally use them for acoustic gigs, and I find myself missing the Helix tuner when using them.
  8. It was broken... Don't you remember the two weeks or so of sporadic outages? The company the makes the forum software stopped supporting the version Line 6 was using, so it wasn't offering them any support in fixing those access problems because of it. That's why Line 6 had to update the forum software. Now, I suppose they could have gone with someone else, but that would have been a lot more disruptive as it would have meant losing access to older posts.
  9. I got the impression that the OP is using the Helix Floor, so, just to clarify, if that's the case, the Helix Control won't work with that.

That's what I've found too. The Peterson Strobe iOS app, for example, is so sensitive that I find it very frustrating to use. It really never stops moving completely. But it's also educational because you can have it display changes down to a tenth of a cent, so it's interesting to see the natural fluctuations after you pluck a string.
  11. It would actually be very easy to add an external controller to add more footswitches. You can assign any free CC to control the bypass state of any block, so as long as you have a controller that allows you to assign CCs to footswitches, you'd be good to go. The Morningstar MC6 comes to mind as one that's relatively inexpensive and gives you 6 (albeit, closely spaced) buttons.
  12. Are you using a Mac or a PC? The .dmg file is a Mac installer package and should run the installation automatically. It sounds like perhaps you're trying to open that on a PC. If you're on a PC, you need the Windows installation package.

I honestly have had no problem with the Helix tuner being unpredictable... I've used on all sorts of electrics, acoustics, and mandolins. I've just resolved that the complaints are something I just don't understand.

I don't know about the Kemper tuner, but the Helix's tuner is definitely offers more resolution than the HD500 and X3L. The Helix's tuner display shows you resolution down to 1 cent. The HD500 and X3L are 3 cents I believe. Turning the tone knob down and using the neck pickup is generally a good practice when using any electronic tuner, since that gives a stronger fundamental pitch for the tuner to detect.

Lol, I ripped a set of Tronical tuners off a Gibson Firebird I bought a few months ago, and replaced them with Klusons... Things were never in tune, and I couldn't get it to calibrate.

What do you mean by, "it even reacts on tone knob"?
  17. The signal that is recorded is tapped off of the DAC, after the input trim, so turning up the trim would increase the levels, but you may not want to do that. It's really not that big of a deal if the levels are coming in low. You can raise them easily after the fact by normalizing them, like you said. Just don't normalize them to 0dB.

    HX Effects

This is because of a corrupted preset... (How they get corrupted, no one knows... Hanging out with the wrong sort of guitar effects, I suppose...) Anyway, you can tell what preset is messing it up by looking at the progress percentage it stops at and multiply that percentage by 128. Like if stops at 15%, 0.15 x 128 = 19.2, so probably the 19th preset in the list.
  19. It works with my Tele, but I have an Electrosocket jack plate on mine... It's not nearly as deep as the standard cup.
  20. Then that pedal is simply not compatible.
  21. Are you using a TS cable with the pedal? Not all expression pedals are compatible with the HX Effects, but any that are compatible have to use a TS cable, not a TRS.
  22. Regarding bias, there really isn't a single value that's optimum, but rather a target range for whatever power tubes it's using. The tolerances of power tubes aren't anything like modern electrical components. They vary a lot even from tubes labeled the same from the same manufacturer. That's why you see tubes sold as "matched pairs". The manufacturer attempts to bin the ones that are performing similarly together. But even then, the bias in an amp can drift. There are some amps where you can't actually adjust the bias apart from modding them. Basically, tube amps aren't static systems. They're always changing. Now, I guess we could say that whenever they model it, they're kind of creating a model of that amp at the moment when it was modeled, so there are discrete, measurable values for these parameters. As to whether those are truly optimum, who knows? That's why the give you a range to play with... I mean, I understand the spirit of the question. I just think that it's one of those things that's not worth worrying about.
  23. There's a gap, but how noticeable it is depends on how picky you are, I guess. The max gap is around 43ms or something like that. That's actually less than half the switching gap on the other Helix products. Since the HX Effects is a single processor product, reloading time is going to inherently faster.
