For those of you who might need a little help with the 2.30 update:

Yep... Your last paragraph is exactly right. Just run the updater, send the update, do the reset, and rock on.- 26 replies

Just to clarify, the latest version of Native is 1.10... The 2.30 nomenclature applies only to the hardware.

2.30 Bug? Output set to USB, but still getting output on 1/4"
phil_m replied to the_bees_knees22's topic in Helix
I just tried this with my Helix, and I'm not getting any audio from the 1/4" outs when I set the output block to USB 1/2. Are you sure you don't have more than one active output block in your patch? -
A typical N/O or N/C switch won't work, but you could do what you want with an "expression switch" like this: http://www.nosepedal.com/store/nose-handyman-switch You could plug that switch into the EXP2 jack and you could use the auto-engage feature to control the bypass state of what block(s) you wanted.

There's no undo function on the editor because there's no undo function on the Helix itself. The editor is really a remote for the Helix. When you change a parameter in the editor, it changes it in real-time on the Helix. It's different than other Line 6 editors where you'd actually have to send information to the device. On Windows, you just have to right click to get the "clear block" option, which is really just as fast as hitting delete or something like that. I'm actually kind of glad the little x is gone as well. There were a number of time I accidentally hit the x when trying to change the bypass state of a block.

Do you have the Snapshot Edit parameter in Global Settings>Preferences set to Recall or Discard?
-
There are 7 analog inputs - the three you listed, plus the 4 returns. There's also two digital inputs (only one can be used at a time) - the VDI and S/PDIF.

Helix Floor with Mission Engineering Expression Pedals
phil_m replied to VirtualGuitars's topic in Helix
With the auto-engage feature, you can control the bypass states of blocks with the expression pedal even without the toe switch. So, no, you don't have to dedicate a stomp on the floor to control the on/off state of the wah. You can use an external expression pedal as a switchless wah, essentially. -
In order for values of parameters to be recalled with snapshots, they have to be assigned to a controller. If you don't want real-time control of parameters (with an expression pedal, footswitch, or MIDI CC), you can assign those parameters to a Snapshot Controller. On the unit itself, just push and turn the knob under the parameter. You'll see brackets appear around the parameter, and it will turn white. It's now assigned to Snapshot Controller. In HX Edit, you can simply right click on the parameter and select "Snapshot Controller" from the list of available controllers.

Bigger than a tank, though... :)

The Morningstar MC6 allows you connect two external expression pedals: https://www.morningstarfx.com/product-page/morningstar-mc6-midi-controller

Technically, yes, it is possible to control the Helix with an M5, but it would be very limited. The M5 sends the PC message associated with a preset when you select that preset on the M5. So you could use it to select between your first 24 Helix presets. I also believe if you bypass the effect while in a preset in the M5, it sends CC#11 (although I'm not completely sure about this). There really wouldn't be a way to have the M5 call up snapshots on the Helix. If you're looking for a small MIDI controller, there are sorts of options out there nowadays. The M5 was really meant to be controlled by MIDI, not necessarily be a controller.

You should ask DI to tell you about the 13-cable method... Go ahead, ask him... I dare you. :)

Where else you seen people mention it? This is the first time I’ve seen it regarding this update.

You don't need to download the firmware, at least not directly. Just run the Line 6 Updater application and follow the prompts, and that will send the firmware to the Helix. Follow the instructions regarding creating a backup of your unit prior to updating.

Hmm... Looks like this is a bug. It shows up in HX Edit, but not in the menu on the unit itself.- 26 replies

Push and turn the knob underneath the level parameter to assign it to a snapshot controller (the parameter will appear in brackets). Now you can set it to a different value in each snapshot. It works just as easily on the Helix itself as in the editor.

Helix Edit's new "Bypass/Controller Assign" screen is awesome!
phil_m replied to HonestOpinion's topic in Helix
Another thing to note is that in the Edit screen itself, it's super fast to assign parameters to controllers now. You can right click on any parameter, and it brings up the list of available controllers to assign that parameter to. -
Try using a gain or volume block to compensate for the volume difference rather than adjusting the channel volume. Or you can control the level parameter at the output block per snapshot as well.

I highly doubt the majority or users are using IRs. In the Facebook user group, which has 11,000 members, every time it’s been asked, I believe stocks cabs have come out on top. Many people still don’t really understand what an IR even is. Short of actual data, I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree, but I think the average user is still relatively unsophisticated.
-
I bet most users are perfectly happy with the stock cabs and that if you looked at the percentage of people actually buying IRs, it's probably a minority. Personally, I've bought a few IRs, but I still use the stock cabs for the vast majority of my patches.

You don't need to download the update, at least not directly. You just need to download the installer package for HX Edit. That will install HX Edit, Line 6 Updater and the Line 6 Drivers (if you're on a PC). After that, just run Line 6 Updater while the Helix is connected and it will download the flash file and send it to your Helix. One note - follow the instruction for creating a backup before running Line 6 Updater.

They are subtle, especially on higher gain settings. Check out this post here: http://line6.com/support/topic/30477-helix-23-tips/?p=234694

You can select up to 8 different presets from each external pedal per Helix preset this way if you want. You just have to go into the Command Center and change the PC# for the Instant Commands for each snapshot.
-
Well, the first thing is you can't assign snapshots to a footswitch in Stomp Mode. You have to be either in snapshot mode or one of views of preset mode (4 snaps/4presets, 4 presets/4 snaps or 8 snapshots) that let you see snapshots to change snapshots. Then when you pick a snapshot to go to, the Instant Commands you have set up in the Command Center in that snapshot will be shot out. So for this snapshot from one of my presets, I'm sending MIDI PC 4 on Channel 1 (the Mobius) and MIDI PC 19 on Channel 2 (the BigSky). You just have to go set these PCs for in the Command Center for each snapshot you want to have the external pedals change with.
