It seemed to me that his takeaway point in the video was that the tuner works fine... Funny you both are taking it as the opposite. Anyway, guitar tuning videos are even a more boring genre than unboxing videos...

The short answer is no, the Helix doesn't behave in the same way. The only MIDI messages that the Helix automatically sends are PC messages when you change presets (you can turn those off in the Global Settings menu if you want) and CC messages when you are in looper mode. Other than that, it doesn't send CC messages when in Stomp Mode like the HD500. You can, of course, program MIDI commands to footswitches in Stomp Mode, and you can program up to six Instant Commands that get sent when changing snapshots and/or presets. Overall, the Helix offers a lot more flexibility and capability when it comes to MIDI than the HD series does.

You could control the Axe FX II through the Helix Rack with the Helix Control, but you can't control the Axe FX directly with the Control. As Peter said, it's just a remote for the Helix Rack not a standalone MIDI controller.

They dealt with some of these types of issues in 2.21, but it sounds like perhaps some of them still persist. Anyway, I know this is something they're aware of.

G10 physical configuration of xmitter a deal breaker (for me)
phil_m replied to BuleriaChk's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
What is the issue, exactly? I guess it's possible that you could forget the transmitter is plugged into the guitar and set the guitar down on end or something like like that. I've been using the G10 with my acoustic and mandolin for quite awhile now, and I've not had any issues. For the record, the latency of the Xvive is something like 6ms, which is double the G10, so there's that to consider as well. -
There's not necessarily anything Line 6 can do... I suppose they could give out USB isolators with the Helix (Arturia does this with some of its devices), but ground loops are simply something that can happen whenever you're connecting multiple devices that have individual connections to ground. Each piece of equipment is at a slightly different voltage potential, so nuisance currents starts flowing, and that comes through as noise.

You need to update the firmware. This was a bug in version 2.10, and it was taken care of in the subsequent update, 2.11. But you should just update to the latest version - 2.21. The instructions are listed in the sticky on the top of the forum page: http://line6.com/support/topic/18284-latest-helix-firmware-221%E2%80%94april-27-2017/

Well, none of the alternatives you offered are what will actually happen. :) The XLR outs will be sent out as a stereo pair, maintaining whatever stereo separation you have in your preset. The 1/4" out will be the summed outputs from the left and right sides of the preset.

You can tighten the expression pedal. There should have been a hex key in the box with that your Helix came in. You can tighten the bolt for the pedal by using that in the opening on the side of the unit.

Well, it's not a bug... It's how the delays have worked on Line 6 products for quite a while now. Line 6 is hardly alone in doing it this way, though. I was playing with the new Empress Echosystem delay, for instance, and it behaves the same way (except it's way more confusing). It really just sounds like you would be happy if you were able to tap in a tempo faster than 240BPM. It seems like that would be an easier request to fulfill rather than changing the whole paradigm for how time-based parameters and tap tempo works.

I don't really agree that the Helix cabs are a weakness. They are fine imo, and I use them most of the time. You do have the option to load third party IRs if you want to, though. You don't need a separate device to do that. You load them directly on the Helix.
-
Have you tried the Adriatic Delay? That's a BBD-based delay based on a modified DM-2, and the max delay time is 1800ms.

Tap only affects parameters that are set to note values, no exceptions.

Is it possible to have 'snapshot' as the default value of all controllers?
phil_m replied to LutherDeLorme's topic in Helix
On the unit itself, you just press and turn the knob underneath the parameter to assign it to a snapshot controller. In the editor, it's very fast as well. The shortcuts are: - Snapshot Assign Shortcut—OPTION-click (Mac) or ALT-click (PC) any Home screen parameter to quickly assign its value to the Snapshots controller - Unassign Controller Shortcut—SHIFT-OPTION-click (Mac) or SHIFT-ALT-click (PC) any Home screen parameter to instantly remove any controller assignment- 12 replies

Reaper supports VST3. I have a bunch of VST3 plug-ins I use in Reaper all the time.

It seems like there might be a bad batch of these that got out. Someone mentioned this same thing in the Helix Facebook group. I guess I'd send it back and ask for a replacement. It should just fit. https://www.facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/permalink/727395890777420/

It sounds like perhaps you hit the Mode footswitch and are actually in Stomp Mode. If you don't have anything assigned to those switches in Stomp Mode, the scribble strips will be blanks, and the LED rings around the footswitches will remain dark.

InMusic is the company that owns Headrush... Headrush is an inMusic brand, just like Akai, M-Audio, Numark, Rane, Alto, etc. In 2012, I believe, inMusic purchased M-Audio in 2012 (http://cdm.link/2012/07/avid-sells-off-consumer-side-numark-avid-akai-m-audio-becomes-new-giant/). When inMusic made that acquisition, they got the source code for 11 Rack. So there is no licensing or anything. inMusic owns that code. But the original 11 Rack team, the programmers from Avid, have nothing to do with Headrush. You can actually still buy a new 11 Rack from retailers, and that is an Avid product. inMusic was smart, in some sense, to capitalize on the 11 Rack name, but I also feel that they're being slightly deceptive in their marketing. This isn't so much an evolution of 11 Rack as much as it is a repackaging with some minor changes - the ability to split the amp and cab and load IRs being the main ones. Also, the Headrush doesn't have the variable input Z like the original 11 Rack did.

Ah... I understand why you would think that, but that's not how the L2m works in this situation. If you take line out of the L2m, it's just a parallel connection from the XLR in, so the L2m won't be affecting the signal from the Helix at all. It's literally just splitting the signal, not doing anything else to it. The Stagesource speakers are pretty flat, so patches you made on them should translate pretty well to different systems. I can't say they'll sound exactly the same, but you should be alright.
-
You could do it that way, but the one drawback is that if you adjust the master volume knob on the Helix, it will affect both the FOH and the level of the L2m. You might want to consider just using the XLR out to feed the FOH and using the L6 Link connection to feed the L2m. You could disable the master volume knob control of the XLR outs and just set it to "Digital". That way you can use it to control your monitor volume.

There's no way to have them all listed out or anything, but any parameter that is being controlled by a controlled will have brackets around it, both on the unit and in the editor. On the unit itself, you just hold down the knob under the parameter being controlled, and you'll be taken to the controller assign screen. There you can see what the actual assignment is. On the editor, you'd just click on the Controller Assign tab. If there's multiple parameters for the same block being controlled, you can scroll to see them all in the Controller Assign screen on the unit, and in the editor, you can use the bars to go through them all.

The Headrush's processor also is completely taxed when you load two 2048 IR files in it (meaning you can't load anything else in the preset). So I'm not sure exactly how they're allocating DSP resources, but it could be that they're holding back some of them for the express purpose of serving as a spillover buffer. Technically, yes, Line 6 could have designed the Helix to have spillover, but it would have meant limiting it in other ways. So it's just a design choice. Personally, I'd rather have the ability to create more complex presets than have gapless switching.

That Peterson app reacts so quickly, I imagine that it is much more sensitive to transients than the Helix is. This is one of those things where there are practical limits as to how fast the Helix screen can actual react. The refresh rate on a Helix screen is relatively slow (not exactly sure what it is, but it's no where near what the iPad is). Oddly enough, I have this Peterson app, and I really don't like it... Too jumpy... ;) Bottom line for me is I've been using the Helix tuner for over two years now with multiple bands and multiple instruments, and it's been fine. I've never had any tuning issues. IMO, if it works in the real world, it works. If you don't like it, I suggest you use whatever third party tuner you like and get on with your life for now... just like the Edge...

Huh? I'm confused... How are figuring +/- 13 cents? As long as the bottom green bar is lit up, which it stays for that video, that means the string is already in tune within a +/- 3 cent range. I doubt that many classical musicians could even detect if a string is 3 cents off from pitch.
