Sonic Port-possible mod for use in Windows?
phil_m replied to conco's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Oh, you know what... If you're talking about the regular Sonic Port - it's iOS only... The Sonic Port VX is iOS and will work with PCs/Macs, as well... I use my VX to record acoustics in Reaper all the time. -
Sonic Port-possible mod for use in Windows?
phil_m replied to conco's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
The Sonic Port will work with Windows, yes. You just need to download and install the ASIO driver. -
That template was created before the L6 Link capability was added, so that's for MIDI control of the DT25. Now you can control the DT25 power amp topology and voicing settings from the output block in the Helix. I don't believe there are any templates or anything associated with this. It's pretty straightforward, though. Go to the output block and click on the DT 25/50 tab, and you'll see the settings there.
-
Probably not, but I guess you never know.
-
If the DT25 isn't responding to the power amp setting from the Helix over L6 Link, it means you need to update your DT25 to the 2.0 firmware.
-
Go to the input block and make sure the noise gate is turned off.

MIDI MMC is different than the Start and Stop messages that the MC-707 is looking for. Those messages are known as System Real Time messages, and the Helix doesn’t have the ability to send those. As far as the MC-707 starting when the MIDI clock is turned on, I believe that’s the expected behavior. Normally, with devices that send System Real Time messages, the MIDI clock starts when you press Play.

On the unit itself, hit the ACTION button while in Snapshot Mode while in the snapshot you want to rename. You'll see "Name Snapshot" above FS3. Hit that, and on the next screen, you can hit FS3 to rename the snapshot using the knobs. The name appears in the scribble strip above FS3. You select the footswitch color by hitting FS2 and turning Knob 3. In HX Edit, you just rename snapshot in the pulldown menu on top of the screen where you select snapshots. You can select the color up there as well.

That link you posted will take you to the latest versions of both manuals. Both were recently updated when the 3.0 firmware was released. So I’m not sure where you found the older manual. I think there may be links to older versions along with the newer revisions. And all the Helix/HX models have the exact same models. The one difference is the HX Effects. It doesn’t have the amp and cab models. Everything is updated on the same schedule. That’s kind of the whole point. The Helix/HX stuff is a platform, so everything is built around the same core that’s updated as a whole.
-
There is no difference... They have the exact same amp and effects models. The fact that the Legacy distortions aren't showing up in the Helix manual you're looking at means you're looking at an outdated manual. The Legacy models are indeed available on all the Helix/HX SKUs. The latest Helix manual is here: https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a4112b165fb6a3fe41663/application/pdf/Helix 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev E - English .pdf The latest Rack/Control manual is here: https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a3f63bf5fb6a4a7df95a/application/pdf/Helix Rack and Control 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev D - English .pdf

Well, you can assign more than one effect to a single footswitch if you want. There are some effects, like the wahs, for instance, that you typically wouldn't assign to a footswitch (you can turn them on and off based on the position of an attached expression pedal). Beyond that, there's four snapshots per preset, which allow you to save and recall the bypass states of all the effects in a presets. So, I guess the answer is that if you're looking for a way to have 9 blocks and 9 switches controlling them, there's no way to do that apart from using an external MIDI controller. But ultimately, the 9 blocks are there to give you more flexibility. You'll probably find that you don't need a bypass switch for every effect in a preset, and you might want to use Stomp Mode switches for other things. The HX Effects is really a different paradigm than the M9 and M13 pedals in that regard.

Just Bought a JTV-69 With No Cables
phil_m replied to labornvain's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The HD500 or 500X will power the JTV and will let you connect to Workbench. Just an FYI, the 500 will work with Workbench or Workbench HD. The 500X will only work with Workbench HD. As long as you have a 2.0 or later firmware on the JTV (which you probably do), you can only use Workbench HD. -
Actually even less difference than this...

If you set Preset Mode to be 8 Snapshots in the Global Settings menu, it’s really easy to go back and forth these two views. You just hit the Mode footswitch. This is what I do. You do have the option of customizing Stomp Mode however you want, too, as mentioned above.
-
Well, it looks like I was wrong... I just tried this with my Helix Rack, and it worked fine. I created two presets, each with the FX Loop 3/4 block, and turned on Spillover Mode. When I changed presets, it worked fine. There does seem to be a slight click, I imagine that’s inevitable since the loop is transitioning from one processor to the other, but it didn’t lock up.
-
It’s not listed anywhere, but I wouldn’t be surprised if true spillover didn’t work with the effects loops. What it’s doing is leaving the one processor open so it loads the new presets while the original one fades out. There wouldn’t really be a way for it to deal with having the effects loops active on both processors at once... So open a support ticket and ask the question, but I kind of expect the answer will be, “you can’t do that”.

The workaround is changing the function of the footswitches in the global settings menu under Global Settings>Up/Dn Swtch. If you select Bank there, they will behave normally. Changing the function of the these footswitches doesn’t change modes. It just changes, well, just the function of the footswitches. If you actually want to get into Snapshot Mode, you hit the Tap and Mode footswitches together. The bug is just with this particular shortcut. The HX Effects has three main modes - stomp, preset, and snapshot. You toggle between stomp and preset using the Mode footswitch. You get into snapshot mode as I mentioned above. If you change these footswitches to Snapshot Up/Down, you aren’t in snapshot mode. You’re in whatever mode you were in, but you’re just able to advance to the next or previous snapshot. I’m just trying to clarify the terminology so there’s less confusion around the issue. But, anyway, it’s a known bug, and should be taken care of with the next firmware update.

Oh, I missed that this was the Stomp... The latest post came up in the approval queue yesterday, so I didn’t see the title.

So you want to hear the sound coming through you DAW, but not from the preset directly? If you select a different output at the output block, that's all you need to do. Set the output block to USB3/4, as you said. You still get playback from the DAW over USB1/2 back into the Helix, and that will be sent out over the XLR and 1/4" outs... I'm not seeing what's missing.

What model Variax is this - and when was it made?
phil_m replied to geoffwalker's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
That’s the original Variax. It came to be called the Variax 500, but it didn’t go by that name when it was first released. I would say that it was probably made in 2003 or 2004. I’m not sure what numbers mean what on that serial number, but that’s the time when they were being made. -
This is a confirmed bug. It only happens when you hold down the bank up and bank down footswitches together to scroll to the next function of those footswitches (you aren't actually changing modes as the OP says - you're just changing the function of those switches). If you change their function under Global Settings>Footswitches, this glitch won't happen.

Please Implement Queuing the next set of Presets in Stomp mode!
phil_m replied to johannfrank's topic in Helix
The reason they didn't do this is because in Stomp Mode, the footswitches activate immediately on the press, not the release. If they activated on the release, then having a function for pressing two at the same time could be possible. Doing this would also eliminate the possibility of having a momentary setting available for the stomp switches. One other thing I'd mention is that if you bought a double external footswitch, you might want to look at setting it up to be Bank Up and Bank Down rather than just switching modes. If you hit Bank Up while you're in Stomp Mode, you'll temporarily be taken to Preset Mode as you're describing, and you'll back to Stomp Mode after selecting the new preset. That might be a little easier than switching modes. Personally, I find it a lot easier to bank up or down hitting only one footswitch versus two. -
Dirt pedals in FX loop sound wayyy off.. Just me?
phil_m replied to emptyvesselband's topic in Helix
Some dirt pedals don't do well with a buffered, low impedance input... It depends on what pedals you're talking about. -
Open a support ticket. People seem to assume that if they have an issue and the see on or two other people with the same sort of issue (which may or may not be actually from the same root cause) that it affects everyone. I've used my Helix and HX Effects for a ton of gigs, and I've never had any issue with tap tempo, and I use it all the time.

You need to download and install HX Edit 3.0.
