This forum has been ridiculously slow for quite a while and for the last couple of days even worse by partially loading the page and then stalling. This morning was so bad I decided to check if the server was up and the ping came back OK, but was really slow, this evening thing seem to have improved somewhat. Note this accessing from the U.K. (London - GMT). EDIT: Cancel that previous comment because the thing stalled while trying to post the comment, and then locked up. Back to how it was previously, really slow to access. Note: I cleared all my browser caches earlier - no difference in performance for this site.

Hi, It appears that you have inadvertently managed to download the Mac Version of the firmware. When you are on the Line 6 Download page, from the “All Software” tab select “HX Edit”, then under the third grey coloured tab labelled “All OS” select “Windows 10” from the drop down menu. This will take you to the correct page to download the Updater required. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Glad to hear that you have got it figured out and now you are a happy Line 6 user. Have fun with the new toy.

Ah, on lockdown because of the zombie apocalypse - the Helix Help site has quite a few links to the manuals for the original amps, fx etc., that are modelled in the hardware. Could be some worthwhile reading material in there. Have fun.

Manual, madness? I’m not entirely sure what you are referring to. If you are referring to the Helix Owner’s Manual, it has been mentioned many times on this forum that Line 6 only release a new manual on major Firmware Revisions. Therefore the next fully updated Manual will be with version 3.0 of the Helix firmware. There are Acrobat PDF versions of intermediate versions available - Helix 2.0 Rev D. If there is some particular information that you’re looking for just ask, I’m sure someone on here will have an answer. Or, you could try: https://helixhelp.com which has an up to date list of all the models in HX units

Hi, I use Logic Pro, so I’m not sure how you need to configure the output in Tracktion, but essentially all you need to do is set the dry signal (which you recorded on USB7) to send out on USB 7 and set the input on whatever Helix preset (your re-amp choice) you want to receive on USB 7 as opposed to the usual input block for guitar, or whatever. The re-amped signal is then sent out on USB 1/2. Simply arm a track on your DAW to record that and you have a new guitar sound in the track. Rinse and repeat until you have total guitar mayhem. Most DAWs are similar in how they work. It may make more sense if you watch this quick tutorial from Sean Halley. Enjoy!

Hi, There is a 7 month old post from “choptones” above, which states - “If you need any information feel free to contact us!” You will have a better chance of finding answers if you contact the vendor directly. Strangely, the Chop Tones website doesn’t have a contact form, although there is a FaceBook Group for Users and Support. Try here: https://z-m-www.facebook.com/pg/ChopTones/groups/?ref=page_internal Quoting this may resurrect the zombie user who only posted on a couple of occasions.

First thing that I need to mention is, when seeking assistance from the users of this forum, it is a great help to supply as much relevant information as possible. For example what computer and operating system you are using and what version number of the firmware you are currently using and are tying to update to. Help us to help you. You seem to have adopted the idea that your situation is due to the “guy at GC” or Line 6 making things “such a hassle” rather than something you may have inadvertently done incorrectly. To succeed you need to follow the update instructions exactly and if you feel that it may be beyond your capabilities, you could well try getting a fourteen year old kid to do it for you. For a solution you might like to try following the link supplied by “Peter” in his post above. You could also try typing “Boot Failure” into the search box at the top of the page and follow any of the many replies to similar issues. I usually jump to help out anyone with problems regarding their Helix, but even though I understand your frustration, I seem to detect a real bad attitude. Maybe you would like to reappraise your first post. As for returning the unit for your money back, do you seriously think that you would be able to manage a software upgrade on a Fractal Axe FX 2? "Boot Failure. Entered Update Mode!" THIS IS NORMAL. DO NOT FREAK OUT, TAKE A PHOTO, AND THEN POST IT ONLINE BECAUSE EVERYONE WILL MAKE FUN OF YOU FOR NOT READING THESE INSTRUCTIONS. https://line6.com/support/page/kb/effects-controllers/helix/helixhx-282-release-notes-r928/

HELIX LT New Preset can't open model list - HELP!!
datacommando replied to edstar1960's topic in Helix
Hi edstar1960, This issue has been discussed at length in various parts of this forum, particularly in the “Bug Reports” sticky thread, where I got this simple fix from fellow user - “MonkeyXT”. After a repair to the Joystick tags, I updated the firmware and discovered the problem you describe and reverted to v2.7 which fixed the problem and I knew it was not a hardware failure. Here’s the quote from MonkeyXT: “I was able to point someone else in the right direction with what I believe is the same behavior as you're seeing here - I believe that with the new options available for the joystick control, some internal parameters for the joystick controller functions have been adjusted. Specifically, the push straight in to select. It seems that v2.8x instructs that device to ignore any 'long' presses - and its idea of 'long' is still pretty short. But, if you tap it in and release relatively quickly, I believe you'll find the control function will work predictably. If you're willing to re-update, maybe give this a try.” In another thread from early August - “Intermittent joystick since update” there is a post from “MusicLaw” who pointed out this is not a “bug” and referenced the official release notes from Line 6, which state: ———————— New Global setting option as of 2.80. The 2.80 RELEASE NOTES state: Turn Joystick to Select Blocks Helix Floor, Helix Rack, Helix LT Currently, turning the joystick encoder scrolls through available models for the selected block. With 2.80, you can now choose to instead turn the joystick to quickly move across the signal flow. From the Global Settings > Preferences menu, turn Knob 5 (Joystick Encoder) to choose “Model” or “Selection.” “Model” remains the default. SHORTCUT: Pressing and turning the joystick will provide the opposite setting; that is, when set to “Model”, press and turn the joystick to quickly move across the signal qow. When set to “Selection,” press and turn the joystick to scroll through available models for the selected block. ————————— Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Hi "massatari", My last post was simply as a response to the question of if this problem has cropped up during beta testing, which I felt was a rather odd question to ask. Also I commented as to why some people never seem to bother to let other users know the problem is fixed - so many thanks for the status update - good to know that you seem to have found a "workaround" for the problem. I have just read back over this thread, which started way back in August last year and your first post about this was in October 2019. I am rather intrigued to know how you have managed from then until now, as you say that you only found this fix yesterday. Maybe you could advise Line 6 support, as it is highly unlikely that any members of Line 6 staff would pick it up on here, as they rarely visit these pages. Regards

IR's For power cab Just Phoned Support! Buyer beware!@
datacommando replied to Randino's topic in Helix
Looking for .wav files? Mmm... not exactly a secret as it is mentioned in a section of the Power Cab Owner’s Manual, Page 16: Impulse Responses Powercab Plus systems allow you to import 128 Impulse Response (IR) files for an even greater variety of speaker cabinet models. By default, the Line 6 Allure pack of IRs is already included, and you can optionally load your choice of third-party IRs. This can be a great way to off-load some of the DSP usage from your Helix or POD device, making room for additional effects on your modeler. Powercab Plus systems can import IRs by way of the Powercab Edit software (see next section). It is possible to import any mono .wav file IR, provided it conforms to the compatible IR properties (48kHz, 24-bit, mono, 2048 samples). While this is very convenient, please be careful not to load just any .wav file as an IR or you may experience unexpected sonic results. SysEx files are not supported. When used in User IR stereo mode, the sample length is carefully truncated to 1024 samples. Although it mentions using an IR to off-load DSP usage, it also specifies the use of .wav files. Rather than buyer beware, it may be more of a RTFM situation. -
I think you will find there are several threads discussing this issue with Impulse Response file management and it will probably run and run. You are not the first to have issues. Check this thread to see what I’m referring to. https://line6.com/support/topic/54193-ir-position/?tab=comments#comment-324711 Oh, yeah - to quote a previous post just click on the word “Quote” below the post.
-
Hi Zeratul25, Maybe it makes a little more sense when you consider that the Line 6 store is exactly that - a store front. The responsibility for naming the IRs is down to the vendor, in your case - Ownhammer. You may like to post your comments to them for an answer and see what they have to say. For the moment, simply edit the name to something more memorable that will fit the display. Remember - always work on a copy! Hope this helps/makes sense.

You don’t explain what happened to your Helix so that you felt it was necessary to perform a Factory Reset. You could try FS 6&12 and reinstall the firmware. Should have taken the blue pill. I think that it would have been reported, but possibly not in this forum and why would it. At the beta stage it is not relevant to end users. Furthermore, I’m not aware of any of the testers who post on here, commenting that this was an issue on any previous versions of the firmware. It stands to reason if this was a recurring issue it would have been error trapped at a pre-release stage. Although bugs do slip the net, I don’t think that Line 6 would deliberately release software that doesn’t work - it’s not in their interest. As noted by “rd2rk” in earlier posts there are simply too many variables with how people configure their Window machines, especially self builds. In other threads on here, some have mentioned that the issues that they were experiencing were eventually revealed to be conflicts with Mother Boards, Graphic Cards and other stuff that had been added into the mix. My attitude is, if you are going to use a PC for music, games, 3D rendering or motion graphics then it is probably better if that machine is dedicated to that sole purpose. This is not just aimed at Windows users as there are also many Apple Mac users who spend a large chunk of cash on a new Helix and then hook it up to a 10 year old operating system only to to find they have problems. I believe the term is “Horses for courses”. YMMV. Edit: What surprises me about this thread, among many others, is the fact that nobody bothers to return to say the problem is fixed and what caused it. Maybe just too embarrassed?

Hi, First thing that I need to mention is, when seeking assistance from the users of this forum, it is a great help to supply as much relevant information as possible. Help us to help you. O.K. Here we go! I’m not a Stomp owner, I have a Helix floor, but the routine is almost the same. To clarify - You have just bought a brand new HX Stomp and you have it hooked up via USB to your Mac running Mojave. So far, so good. Now you need to install HX Edit for your unit and you have downloaded a disk image (.dmg) which appears to be corrupted. I would suggest that before you proceed is to verify the FW version that is currently installed on your hardware unit. You need to go to Line 6 Software Downloads using either this link or by clicking on "DOWNLOADS" in the menu at the top of this page: https://line6.com/software/index.html Under "-All Hardware -" select “HX Stomp”, then under "-All Software-" select "HX Edit" and then select Mac OSX from the "-All OS-" drop down menu, then click the 'GO" button. This will take you to the page where you can download the correct version of the software that you need. Scroll down to find the version that matches your Stomp, then simply click on the big blue "GET DOWNLOAD" button. Now you will be taken to the EULA page where you should then click "ACCEPT AND DOWNLOAD" to complete the transfer of the software to your computer’s downloads folder. When the download is complete the checksum will be verified automatically and you should be able to launch the “.dmg” file which will install the matching HX Edit app for your model. You should now be able to launch HX Edit to make a back up of your installed presets. NOTE: the version number of HX Edit and the number of the Firmware must match to work correctly! Additional note: The Line 6 MD5 Checksum Utility is a Windows command line program, not Mac. Also, if the checksum fails - try the download again and turn off any blocker software, (i.e. Little Snitch etc.) that may be interfering with your download and installation. Once you have a backup of your presets you may find it advisable to update your firmware to the latest version. Here’s how. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Download from Line 6 Software Downloads using either this link or by clicking on "DOWNLOADS" in the menu at the top of this page: https://line6.com/software/index.html Under "-All Hardware -" select Helix, then under "-All Software-" select "Flash Memory" and then select your computer OS from the "-All OS-" then click the 'GO" button. This will take you to the page where you can download just the V2.82 Firmware - simply click on the big blue "GET DOWNLOAD" button and you will be taken to the EULA page where you should then click "ACCEPT AND DOWNLOAD" to complete the transfer of the software to your computer. Now when you connect your Helix to your PC via a good USB cable you should launch the latest Line 6 Updater application (v1.18) which will then present you with the Updater Utility Log In Page. As you say that you are having difficulties with trying to install over your internet connection, you should click on the "Offline Mode" button. You should now see you hardware device an a dark green panel, click on that to select it. On the next page you will see " Local File" is the only option, now you click on the 'Choose File" button that will bring up the window where you need to navigate to where you downloaded the Firmware (which is a *.hxf) fie, when you find it click "Open" and you will then proceed to transfer the Flash Memory file into your hardware. This should be a relatively painless operation, provide that you have followed all the release notes instructions to the letter. See link to article below. If you do not follow these instructions and it fails - the only person to blame is you! Good luck, I hope this makes sense/helps. Further to your comments about the issues that you're experiencing with the joystick functionality - please see my comments this thread.

Hi, While you were checking out the stuff on the POD Go site, you may have seen the videos featuring the splendid Paul Hindmarsh. Not sure if you may be interested, but Paul has posted to CustomTone a couple of the presets which he created for the NAMM demo session. These should be compatible with the Helix products including your HX Stomp, and so you can load the presets into HX Edit to see exactly how he has put these tones together. Find the patches here: https://line6.com/customtone/search/helix/1/?sort=&sort_dir=&search_term=Hindmarsh Have fun exploring your new toy!

Hi, Your post is not very clear about what is happening exactly. You say that you have “just encountered the :- 28 Error, without explaining events leading up to this and it is rather confusing. Then you continue with “Reboot multiple times”. I guess that means you simply turned off the power and then turned it back on - without holding down any of the foot switch combinations. O.K.fine, but then you say that you “Updated firmware (using the update mode) from 2.71 to 2.82” Now that is really confusing, because if the unit was failing to boot with a :-28 Error how was it possible to install the updated firmware? Then your final comment is very difficult to understand and I cannot figure out if you mean that after the firmware update your Helix fails to boot to a state where you can perform a factory reset. In order for anyone to help with issues like this you need to supply as much information as possible. Although, I fully understand if English is not your first language, then technical problems can be difficult to explain clearly. It would appear that all the possible solutions, known to members of this forum, have been posted in the thread above. If none of these have worked for you then the best thing to do is to raise a ticket with Line 6 customer support and maybe they can advise you how to proceed. I hope this makes sense/helps.

If you set a noise gate correctly, then you can forget about it because it will only open at your desired level and gently close with your selected release time. When used as it should be, you would not know it was there. Although, with that said, it can also be used some highly creative ways, stuttering fx for example. Once more “HonestOpinion” beat me to the reply. Doh!

Helix not booting up after finishing 2.82 update.
datacommando replied to Godisgood's topic in Helix
Hi, I know that you have said you followed the instructions EXACTLY, but you didn’t mention if you also updated the new Factory Presets and Templates by holding down Footswitches 7&8 while powering up your Helix. Here are some more Factory Reset options that you can try. NOTE: Ensure your custom presets are backed up before attempting a reset! -
I thought that also - and you’re correct, there is a level parameter, but it’s on the USB input. ;-)

Hi, As HX Native is exactly the same as the “brain” in rest of the models in the Helix range then it will be common to all. Can’t think of an obvious solution if the sweep starts from a random point in the cycle - guess you’re stuck with that. Sorry.
-
Well, that’s all good then. Lucky you didn’t have to move to Uraguay!
