    2.91?

Yeah! What are you trying to indicate with that link? I read through the notes and just to double check did a search through the document for the word “forthcoming”. Result: Nada, zip, zilch, zero, nuthin’. Me from planet Earth, me no understand. Please advise.
  2. There are many users that suffer from bad internet connections and there should be the option for installing a local file. Although having said that, I was really impressed by the new slick HX Edit install routine. It was only later, when looking for the backup of the previous Line 6 Updater, that I thought to myself, it could have quietly been automatically installed along with the HX Edit 2.9 and was actually running in the background. Too many revision numbers to say without checking prior copies, but that could be getting too far down the rabbit hole. Just say, that’s simply my guess as to what’s happening. It was a rather convoluted way of flashing the memory and also created floods of “update bricked my Helix” posts with earlier Firmware.
  3. I did everything by the posted installation notes to do the initial update to 2.9 and it was very simple and quick through HX Edit 2.9. It was only later when trying to do the “hot fix” that, after everything ground to a halt, I decided to go for the old school approach and use the Line 6 Update program. When I looked it seemed to have a newer modified date, so launched it and it detected my Helix as 2.9. As I was disconnected from the internet I pointed I at the patch file and away it went. Everything works - no issues, other than it seemed a lot slower performing the patch than it did doing the jump from 2.82 to 2.9 which was smooth as silk. Caveat: Note, this was on a 2016 Mac 27” 5k Retina model. Should you wish to try this you do so at your own risk - no guarantees given or implied. Plus you must download and install 2.9 HX Edit and back up all your stuff first. You’re on your own after that.
  4. The initial update to v2.9 was a breeze and extremely quick compared with prior firmware installation - I would guess that is down to last big change when the Core was modified. The only thing was while trying to use HX Edit to preform the “hot fix” it appeared to be sitting there chewing away at something, but not getting anywhere. After around 30 minutes it still was not making any headway and on clicking the “About” menu it returned the message that the hardware was no longer connected, even though it was. I decided to bailout and the Helix remained unaffected - it remained fully functional as a 2.9 unit. When I checked back on the Line 6 download page, it appeared very slow and unresponsive, which I put down to the fact that everybody was trying to do the same. Anyhow, I downloaded the memory patch and went in through the back door to flash the update which was fine other than it took a long time even though I was no longer connected to the internet. One more thing to note is, I don’t think that the “phone home” thing that HX Edit uses to log in to the user account and check for updates, plays nice with firewall routines and blockers like “Little Snitch” even when it has been given a pass. It doesn’t like those at all. Hopefully now we can all return to lockdown with new stuff to mess with. Big thanks to all the Line 6 crew for their continued development of this monster.
  5. As noted in the post above, it is possibly due to the amount of traffic on the server. The same thing happened to me earlier today, even getting the direct download was a little flakey. Anyhow, when you do get it, I didn’t spot a way to use HX Edit to finish the job. I think that it is still using the Line 6 Updater application (v 1.9 if I recall) behind HX Edit. I noticed on my Mac what appeared to be a newer version of the previous type of Updater, that connected up to my Helix and installed the local v2.91 patch file - no problem. Having said that, considering the hot fix is so small it took a lot longer than doing the 2.9 through HX Edit. Try it, nothing to lose.
  6. You could run through the Factory reset procedures: Here we go again:- Reset Options Helix Floor/LT Button Combination Description 2 LED light Fun 3 & 4 Test Mode 5 & 6 Global reset 7 & 8 Reset setlists to factory, Keep IRs 8 & 9 Reset setlists to factory, Clear IRs 9 & 10 Reset setlists to factory, Global reset, Clear IRs 10 & 11 Upgrades existing presets to latest format 11 & 12 Clear current preset 5 & 12 Clear setlists, clear IRs, Return system settings to default 6 & 12 Safe boot mode To use Reset Options: Power off the Helix Hold the desired button combination Power on the Helix Release the button combination Please note: Buttons are numbered from top left to bottom right. Then run the hot fix 2.91 update:
  7. Hi Chuck, This is all rather vague - in order to assist with situations such as this, it’s a big help if you can supply as much info as possible regarding what computer and operating system you are using. You say you made a backup before updating, good move, but how did you make that backup? When you download and install HX Edit 2.9, on the first run the software asks if you want to make a backup. After that it will update the firmware in your Helix. Once that is finished the unit will reboot and rebuild the presets. All your stuff should still be there and if not you should be able to fix it by reloading your safety backup and rebooting the hardware and let it rebuild the presets once more. If your installation was anything other than that, you will have problems. Please advise.
  8. Maybe you slept through this, but all the issues are now fixed in the 2.91 hot fix update which was released yesterday. Furthermore, as I previously pointed out to “SaschaFranck”in his post about free beer tasting stale, he doesn’t have to drink it, but there is no need throw it back in someone’s face - simply walk away. He seems to be a very happy bunny now and has thanked Line 6 staff (In another thread) for getting the fix done so quickly. I hope that makes sense.
  9. When you download the 2.9 update .dmg please ensure that you have removed (just drag it into the trash) any earlier versions of HX Edit from your Mac. It could be that when you run the update installer you are actually linking back to the 2.82 version via an “alias” on your Mac. This can sometime happen if you have moved the software to somewhere else on you drive other than the regular installation area, which is usually a folder named “Line 6” inside your Applications folder. Once you have HX Edit 2.9 up and running hook up your Helix/HX unit and let HX Edit perform a backup and then the firmware update, it should be quick and painless. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  10. I don't need to - you have the problem and, as it has been stated over and over again, "this is a known issue and a hot fix is in the pipeline". Which part of that do you not comprehend?
  11. No. You don't have to drink it either! Don't like it - just simply walk away. You don't need to throw it in their face! Don't gripe about it! I'm with "coda media" above - straight forward update (possibly the easiest yet) and totally none of the issues with Tap, Volume or anything else. Plus the ones mentioned in the bug list are already being fixed. Get a life or at least an artists impression of one. Did someone die, and in their will leave you an opinion on absolutely everything?
  12. O.K. Doctor, that’s one view of it, although there are at least three Beta Testers among the users of this forum that possibly have other opinions. I was going to ask if you honestly thought that something as blindingly obvious as the big Volume knob not functioning correctly could have slipped through the net, but it seems you do. That defies logic to me and furthermore, as the majority of people who did the update don’t seem to be suffering the same misfortune as you, it could well be “a small glitch”. To say that the software was not properly vetted is simply your assumption. One of the Beta Test team (Peter Hamm) stated that he did detect the tap tempo “glitch” prior to release, but has since posted that people should just relax because a “hot fix” is being developed for imminent release. Hang on in there, because if something as major as the volume knob not working escaped into the wild, then I guess that is also being worked on. As usual, people have been clamouring for months for the release of 2.9, then when it arrives the regular sh!t storm lands. Anyhow, I’m glad to hear that reverting back to a previous version has got you back up and running. Nothing else to do, sit around and wait for a bug fix. EDIT: FOUND THIS IN ANOTHER THREAD - RE: VOLUME KNOB. From Digital Igloo - (Chief Product Design Architect at Yamaha Guitar Group, Inc. / Line 6 / Ampeg): Reboot again. Don't touch anything for 30 seconds. Should be fine. 2.91 hot fix coming very soon.
  13. I have to ask - are you sure that you downloaded the correct file? I have had absolutely no issues with the download and install procedure. If you cannot mount a disk image (.dmg) it is more likely to be an issue with you Mac. Right clicking and using a tin opener approach is going to cause problems. Try downloading and installing again.
  14. Hmm... yes, I think your attitude really is unacceptable. Eight posts in and down voted twice! This is so freaking tedious. With every update there are a bunch of people who pi$$ and moan about things that they think should have been done better or differently. Welcome to the bleeding edge of technology, this is what happens to early adopters of new software. You had the choice not to do it and simply follow the threads for bug reports, but no - you wanted to be the test pilot, so don’t complain when you crash and burn. When you bought your Helix - that was it - done finished, Line 6 owes you nothing more. Firmware updates are not an entitlement, but they do come free for you to use or not. You are not paying for this stuff, it’s a gratuity. Don’t like it - simple, revert back. Oh, yeah, and when the bugs are ironed out in this version, you can safely update and then start to gripe about Firmware v3.0. Should have taken the red pill. Reset your Globals and have a nice life. EDIT: I just followed the install procedure without any issues during or since. Rebuilding the presets routine took longer than any other part of the update and that was only a few minutes. Using HX Edit to do the install is a breeze. Thank you Line 6.
  15. Hi, Mr First in the Phonebook, Bit of a strange one this, because on the download page Mac OS X Catalina is not listed as one of the systems that Native will function on. This is also the case on the storefront page where it states: System Requirements Mac Computers: Mac OS X 10.10, 10.11, 10.12, 10.13, 10.14 64-bit AAX Native, Audio Units (AU), VST3 host DAW software Supported Sample Rates: 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 96 kHz Having said that, at the top of this forum page is a banner regarding Mac OS 10.15 with a link to this info: It maybe that Native is one of those exceptions? You could download Native 1.9 add see if it works, if not simply revert back to the previous version. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  16. What it means is - You have just encountered “The Gatekeeper” which Apple use as protection against nasty software. It crops up on here occasionally, but don’t worry you can override the settings. Full details here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491 Hope this helps/makes sense.
  18. Yes, you can use an impedance matching connector, also sometimes referred to as a Z Changer. I haven’t needed to use one for years, but I found this, which is essentially what you need. https://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Audix-T50K-Impedance-Matching-Transformer/ST8?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=order-confirmation&utm_content=ord-line&utm_source=txn-email The type I used many years ago was like this one: https://www.thomann.de/gb/shure_a85f.htm?glp=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwhOD0BRAQEiwAK7JHmOrFlauBrJRMIRZHgbWd-YQkbVZiKGsfjmd_7VbeSSdvlr9r_9-YjhoCav8QAvD_BwE Hope this helps/makes sense. EDIT: Beware - this will not work if your microphone requires phantom power - that’s a whole different can of worms.
  19. Hi, This has come up on several occasions and if I recall correctly, your CODE - 8201 is a badly formatted preset error. Try this: Reboot your Helix while holding down footswitches 10 & 11 which should rebuild your presets and update them to the latest firmware spec. Note: if this doesn’t fix it, then you need to supply more info. What you gave here is not much use! You know we need important stuff like: what hardware, what computer, what OS , what firmware, etc. It’s a big help. Hope this helps/makes sense
  20. Hi Keith, LED fun is a lovely for about, oh... 3 seconds it's just one of those things that programmers do - because they can. Anyhow, as noted by "silverhead" in the posts above, someone must have had your LT out of the box and loaded those IRs because they don't get shipped like that normally. I would be asking questions of the vendor. When I bought mine from Dawsons, way back in November 2015, they were in short supply in the UK, so they explained that it was an "opened box" but never used. Seem the guy bought it and when he got back home his wife was not best pleased. Oops! Also, as you should be able to tell from the list of Reset Options (above), in most cases IRs are cleared (wiped) during reset, but holding FS 7&8 will keep them while doing a Factory Reset. One other thing to note is, when you load a preset that you have downloaded from CustomTone when you next restart your LT it may go in to the routine of displaying "Rebuilding Presets" on the screen. This is normal, especially if you have loaded an older preset that hasn't been previous optimised to the current firmware of your unit. Even though the sun may be shining in Manchester - stay inside and mess with your toy!
  21. I’m still waiting for my free Nelson Mandela! Here ya go - free cut out and keep. Reset Options Helix Floor/LT Button Combination Description 2 LED light Fun 3 & 4 Test Mode 5 & 6 Global reset 7 & 8 Reset setlists to factory, Keep IRs 8 & 9 Reset setlists to factory, Clear IRs 9 & 10 Reset setlists to factory, Global reset, Clear IRs 10 & 11 Upgrades existing presets to latest format 11 & 12 Clear current preset 5 & 12 Clear setlists, clear IRs, Return system settings to default 6 & 12 Safe boot mode To use Reset Options: Power off the Helix Hold the desired button combination Power on the Helix Release the button combination Please note: Buttons are numbered from top left to bottom right.
  22. Hi, again, Keith, I wasn't being scathing and meaning what I said as a nasty dig - it was more by way of a reality check. I never cease to be amazed by people who spend a large chunk of cash on a piece of digital wizardry and then, and only then, realise that the thing doesn't play itself or turn you into Joe Satriani. It takes work, and yes, you "absolutely really have to". I wonder how many people have bought a Keeley Dark Side Pedal after seeing the cool demo videos, then when they got home realised that it doesn't come pre-loaded with skill and talent to the level of a certain Mr David Gilmour. Why does David Gilmour sound like that? Maybe because he is David Gilmour, there isn't another. Practice messing around with stuff until it sounds good, or a sound you really like and develop that. You can't really hurt a Helix (LT) they're real tough and if you screw up the presets a simple reload or reset works. It's not like the real world hardware were you could essential fry a stack of expensive equipment by plugging in the wrong thing. Remember - Always work on a copy - play with it and have fun.
  23. Oh, I see. Obviously so allergic that not only did you miss the link to CustomTone, you also didn’t see the link at the top of the forum in the large black banner with the title: Templates and Tones from L6 Tone made easy classes If it is too difficult for you to scroll back to the top of this page - here’s the link. https://line6.com/tone-templates/ Note: regarding Customtone. Yes, it is possibly the biggest repository of Helix presets, but be aware that many of them will not sound as you might expect. They may not even come close to the description given for them. Why? Because, unless you have the exact same guitar, string gauge, pick technique and about another million little things that makes each of us unique - it just ain’t gonna happen. Better get used to it, you bought into this digital audio game now you will have to learn how to make it work for you. The users of this forum can usually help out with technical issues, but learning how to fly this thing is a different matter. Experiment - you have noting to lose and everything to gain. Oh, yeah! Be prepared for some hard work. Have fun!
  24. The post I made earlier contains a link to a thread, from almost four years ago - the comments from Digital Igloo may be of interest. Or, maybe not!
