  1. Hi, As noted by “phil_m” in his comment above - you need to be using the 64 bit version of Cubase 5 for the Helix Native plug-in to work. Hope this helps.
  2. Same here, but further into that TGP thread someone speculated on something Variax related being made ready for NAMM, but DI said Variax development wasn't really his department. Not sure if that counts as "no comment"?
  3. Just to double up on this comment, here is a quote from DI on that Gear Page thread. When asked if we might see the 2.90 release over the upcoming holidays, he replied. ”Even though 2.90 is 80-90% finished, no. Bigger fish to fry and we're a tiny team.“ Mmm... Eric being as intriguing as ever! Any ideas as to what the “bigger fish” that are about to be fried might be? Smells fishy!
  4. Hi again, i must have been asleep at the wheel again, because I have only just realised that you are having trouble with v.281.1 firmware which was only for the Helix LT model. I would suggest that you may need to perform a reset on your hardware to blow out any bugs in the unit before you try to take your firmware to the next stage. Assuming that you have a backup copy of everything you regard as important - try a hardware reset: Helix Floor/LT Button Combination Description 2 LED light Fun 3 & 4 Test Mode 5 & 6 Global reset 7 & 8 Reset setlists to factory, Keep IRs 8 & 9 Reset setlists to factory, Clear IRs 9 & 10 Reset setlists to factory, Global reset, Clear IRs 10 & 11 Upgrades existing presets to latest format 11 & 12 Clear current preset 5 & 12 Clear setlists, clear IRs, Return system settings to default 6 & 12 Safe boot mode To use Reset Options: Power off the Helix Hold the desired button combination Power on the Helix Release the button combination Please note:Buttons are numbered from top left to bottom right. Suggest that you try 10 & 11 first, as the switch to 2.8 and above was quite intensive “brain surgery” for the Helix family. Also, search this forum by typing “2.81.1 in the search box at the top of the page and trawl through the replies. Good luck!
  5. That looks to me like some sort of glitch. I would suggest that you make sure that you have a backup of all your presets etc., them perform a reset on your hardware to see if the glitch is cleared. If a reset doesn’t work, then your other option is to raise a ticket with Line 6 support. It also helps to know what firmware revision you are using and if this is only a problem with the hardware or is the HX Edit display also screwed up? Backup and then try a reset x these are your options: HX Stomp Button Combination Description All 3 Footswitches Clears all presets/IRs FS1+2 Resets presets and IRs FS 2+3 Factory restore (globals, presets, IRs)
  6. Hi, O.K. You managed to update to 2.81, but fail with 2.82. Your post is a little unclear about how you are attempting to do the update. When you say “Now I get an error message everytime I try to download 2.82” does that mean “download” via the internet from the Line 6 software download page or do you actually mean “update the Helix LT Firmware”. They are quite different issues and you don’t tell us what the exact error message says. You also state “Restarted editor and helix LT, several times but same error message”. The firmware and HX Edit version must be the same revision number - ie 2.82. Also, HX Edit must be closed while running the update installer software or it will fail. You also don’t mention what computer and operating system you are using - all this stuff is helpful when trying to figure out what is happening. Full instructions for the v2.82 firmware update are available here: Hope this helps/makes sense
  7. Hi Vanilla, You appear to be somewhat confused - there is no such thing as "Helix Native for HX Effects", so I'm not entirely sure as to what you have got. It could be just the trial version. You can buy Helix Native (or download the 15 day trial version) from the link here: https://line6.com/helix/helixnative.html HX Native has nothing to do with your hardware HX Effects, other than as an owner of the hardware unit you qualify for a discount on the Helix Native plugin software. The plugin is a fully functional software version of a full Helix and is limited only by how much processing power available in your host computer and Digital Audio Workstation. If you have bought a copy of Helix Native 1.82 then that should be installed on your computer where it runs as a VST/AU plugin in whatever DAW you have installed and wish to use as the host for Native. When you run Native for the first time you will be required to register the application for it to work properly. When you bought the software you should also have received an activation code to use unlock the software from simply running as a trial version. I suggest that it may be worth taking some time to look at the 4 part instructional video for Helix Native that has been done by Chad Boston, it covers all the main things you need to know. Here is a link to part 1, start here then watch the others in the series.
  8. Hi larjim, As you spotted in the notes about Catalina compatability posted in the notes from Line 6: Drivers • All currently supported drivers and devices work as expected except for the Helix custom driver. • Helix class compliant audio works as expected. • The Helix custom driver (which adds support for additional sample rates) does not yet work correctly. Further Note: Core Audio Driver Settings (Mac® OS X only) To use Helix as an audio interface for Mac® applications, it is not necessary to install any additional driver. Helix will utilize the Mac® computer's "Class Compliant" USB driver automatically simply by connecting to your USB port. Helix will then appear as a selectable Core Audio device within the Mac® Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup panel and/or directly within your audio and multimedia applications. However, note that this Apple Class Compliant driver offers strictly 48kHz native sample rate operation. If you prefer to use a different native sample rate (or if your particular DAW application requires it), you can optionally download and install the Line 6 Mac® Core Audio driver from line6.com/software. This Line 6 driver offers 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88kHz or 96kHz sample rate operation. Therefore: If you are a Mac user and don't have the custom driver installed you will not be able to use any other sample rate than the standard Apple Class Compliant/Helix rate of 48kHz If you want to be able to use the additional sample rates (44.1, 88.2 and 96.0 kHz) for recording and playback you must install the custom driver. Hope this helps/makes sense
  9. Hi again, Mark, This issue has been discussed at length in various parts of this forum, particularly in the “Bug Reports” sticky thread, where I got this simple fix from fellow user - “MonkeyXT”. After a repair to the Joystick tags, I updated the firmware and discovered the problem you describe and reverted to v2.7 which fixed the problem and I knew it was not a hardware failure. Here’s the quote from MonkeyXT: “I was able to point someone else in the right direction with what I believe is the same behavior as you're seeing here - I believe that with the new options available for the joystick control, some internal parameters for the joystick controller functions have been adjusted. Specifically, the push straight in to select. It seems that v2.8x instructs that device to ignore any 'long' presses - and its idea of 'long' is still pretty short. But, if you tap it in and release relatively quickly, I believe you'll find the control function will work predictably. If you're willing to re-update, maybe give this a try.” In another thread from early August - “Intermittent joystick since update” there is a post from “MusicLaw” who pointed out this is not a “bug” and referenced the official release notes from Line 6, which state: ———————— New Global setting option as of 2.80. The 2.80 RELEASE NOTES state: Turn Joystick to Select Blocks Helix Floor, Helix Rack, Helix LT Currently, turning the joystick encoder scrolls through available models for the selected block. With 2.80, you can now choose to instead turn the joystick to quickly move across the signal flow. From the Global Settings > Preferences menu, turn Knob 5 (Joystick Encoder) to choose “Model” or “Selection.” “Model” remains the default. SHORTCUT: Pressing and turning the joystick will provide the opposite setting; that is, when set to “Model”, press and turn the joystick to quickly move across the signal qow. When set to “Selection,” press and turn the joystick to scroll through available models for the selected block. ————————— Maybe worth trying a re-installation of the latest firmware to see if that clears the glitch. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  10. Hi Mark, The short answer to “Do line 6 actually read any of these forum problems?” No, or maybe yes, occasionally. Posted at the top of this forum is a “sticky” post entitled "Why is Line 6 not responding???" - that should explain why. If you really want to contact the main guys at Line 6, you will find Frank R and Digital Igloo usually hang out on the Helix Family group on Facebook or on TGP. As for the joystick issue, it is a feature of the firmware, see my previous posts higher up in this thread. Don’t like it, you can revert to an earlier version of the firmware, but if the problem persists it may indicate that the joystick encoder tags need to be re-soldered. Hope this helps/ makes sense.
  11. O.K. you didn’t mean to make a fuss about the offset issue - so why bother to post to the forum that this is a “bug”? Weird! Again, why state this is a “bug” when in everyday use 2ms is negligible. I have been using Helix as an interface for 4 years and never had problem with this “bug”, and I don’t recall anyone else posting to say this is a major fault in the Helix. As the old saying goes - “it’s close enough for rock ‘n’ roll” or “near enough for jazz”. Not wanting to make a fuss - yeah - that didn’t work out too well.
  12. Bug? I really cannot understand why you have bothered to post this supposed “around 2ms delay” as a bug? What is going on in your head to think that is a bug? Not many humans could detect that time discrepancy! Let me direct you to an article which you may wish to read regarding latency, and direct monitoring. Note well, the section “As Near Zero As Makes No Difference”. https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/living-latency And why you hear your input signals without having to wait for them to be buffered in and out of the computer. “still have to pass through the A-D and D-A converters, which is why this method doesn't give true zero-latency monitoring” What you mention is and instance of “physics” at work - not a bug! It is not likely to trouble many people, only maybe passing dogs or bats. Glad you took the time out of your life to discovered this anomaly, although I question the validity of your bug statement. Why should a possible 2ms delay worry a Helix user. You really do do seem determined to find faults with this box of tricks.
  13. Hi, Not sure where you got the info about FS4 & 5, but it is wrong - that is not a valid combination. If you meant FS3 & 4 “Test Mode” that is only available on the Floor and LT models. 14. Hi Sascha, I don’t know which of the many European Service centres you are referring to, when you say a repair has taken 2 months and is still not completed. I think that is a long time by anyone’s standard, but you don’t say what the guy is having repaired and what the issue is, so there could be many reasons for the delay. Line 6 have a single authorised Service Centre in the U.K., which I found to to be very fast and efficient (and low cost) when I need a repair to the joystick on my Helix Floor unit. You, and your friend’s experience with “Yamaha’s quite shady support” appears to be completely different to mine here in the U.K.
  15. Hi Spydz0r, It should not be doing that. You need a reliable unit, random restarts are not acceptable. Your best option is to open a ticket with Line 6 Customer Support, or if it is a brand new purchase check to see if the retailer will swap it for a fully functional unit.
  16. Hi, As noted by “HonestOpinion” in the post above, this has been discussed before. Example here from a year ago: https://line6.com/support/topic/37998-levels-and-different-kinds-of-splits/ and even earlier - more discussion here.
  17. Hi again, Example: Delay on a parallel path will allow you to add more of the delay by taking the mix above 50%. If you have the delay on the main path and take the mix above 50% tends to kill the dry signal - it really doesn’t work as many people expect. For less muddy delays and reverb, the second path is the way to go. Also, just spotted the reply from SachaFrank, above, is also worth noting.
  18. I’m not sure that I understand, please clarify?
  19. Hi, No, no no, don’t do that - that way lays madness. Using the swell effect is like using your volume knob to sweep from silence to full, so then by adding a compressor after the swell you are almost doing the reverse of that. A compressor is used to make your quiet playing louder and your loud playing quieter. Putting a compressor after a swell will try to even out the signal. It sort of defeats the purpose of a swell effect. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  20. Aw, c’mon guys, we all know what happens in situations like this - once there is a whiff of blood in the waters! This stuff is constant and inevitable!
  21. You’re in the wrong place - if you really expect a response from Eric or Frank then you really should post your question to the Helix Facebook group or TGP. Try either of these options to contact them directly because in here you are shouting in the dark. https://www.facebook.com/groups/line6helixusergroup/ https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/line6-helix.1586637/page-3234 Good luck posting to these threads above - I guess somebody had to be the first to ask - just glad it wasn’t me.
  22. Hi, I haven’t been impressed with what I’ve seen of the TC Body Rez pedal when looking at the demos on UChoob. For acoustic guitar with HX units I would go with a Studio Tube pre-amp and followed by an LA Studio Compressor, then add a little chorus and delay/verb for a little glamour. You could also add an Acoustic/IR into the preset before or after the amp. Regular contributor, Peter Hamm, has some good tips for using acoustic guitars with HX boxes and also has some presets and freebie IRs available. Check this to see if it helps. And here’s an example of Pete playing acoustic with Helix.

    looper

Hi, IIRC, it is possible to change to another preset while using the looper, but both presets must contain the exact same type of looper. Therefore if you are using a 6 switch looper, then the target preset should also have a 6 switch looper available. Check this: Hope this helps/makes sense.
  24. Here ya go! Helix Rack Since the rack doesn’t have footswitches, you’ll instead hold down a combination of the 6 encoders that are below the main LCD screen as you’re booting up. 25. Hi, Yes, you did mention it, back in April in this Workbench thread: I believe the advice from Line 6 was -“Don’t run them at the same time” . Since then if you haven’t modified your computer to give it some more muscle, I would guess that advice still stands. Hope this helps/makes sense.
