delay increments of 1/100ms (if only up to 50ms or so)
datacommando replied to bypassvalve's topic in Helix
Hi bypassvalve, If you ever want to actually see this modification to the delays in Helix the best option is to post here: https://line6.ideascale.com These forums are for user to user assistance, Line 6 staff only occasionally drop in, so the chances of your comment being spotted are negligible. Hope this helps/makes sense. Note: I had 5 bypass grafts done back in 2006 - still functioning fine. -
Yep, I also own a real banjo and two Variax guitars with the banjo model. Suppose it’s something to do during lockdown.

Ye Gods, does nobody ever read the dates on these threads? I’m going to put it down to sheer boredom during this virus crisis! Yawn!

Maybe not. I guess you made backups prior to this one, including your high gain packs. If you did, then load up those into HX Edit and save out the ones you really need as single presets. Once you have them make a setlist that you can send it to your Helix. Once more I have to ask - you did make backups didn’t you?

I don't think I was being particularly harsh in my comments, more likely realistic. If I was going to be harsh well.... Anyhow, on to your question. Strange, now you seem to be considering using more than one preset. Simple solution, as you have noted that since the update to 2.9 the option to have both Snapshots and Stomps available, you could also use the Command Centre to change to a previous or next Preset. Easy eh? Here's a video walk through and Steve has left the patches on Customtone for anyone interested to try out. See what you make of the idea. Also you could configure you Helix Up/Down foot switches to 8 Presets , so that in when you're in Stomp mode going to the next Preset is a single click on the up or down buttons 1 & 7.

Yep! No problem - did you look? Also from way back - check out Scott doing a run through of Snapshots

Hi Tony, This might appear obvious, but double check that you are actually opening HX Edit 2.90 to communicate with your hardware. It is not unknown for some people to have inadvertently opened an earlier version, especially on a Mac which may have an “alias” pointing back to the wrong version. Also, after updating to FW 2.91, did your hardware go through the “Rebuilding Presets” routine, if not restart your Helix while holding down Footswitches 10 & 11. Then you should restore everything, especially your Global settings from the backup you made prior to updating to 2.91, and when that finishes, turn it off and then back on again. You did make a backup, didn’t you? The other thing to ask is, - did you follow the installation procedure exactly as described in the release notes for v.2.91? Updating Helix/HX Firmware to 2.91 Helix Floor, Helix Rack, Helix LT, HX Effects, HX Stomp STEP 1—Updating HX Edit to 2.90 (assuming you haven't done this already) Log onto line6.com, download, and install HX Edit 2.90: macOS: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=9678 Windows 7/8/10: https://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=9677 STEP 2—Updating Helix/HX Firmware to 2.91 If you have Helix Rack/Control, turn off Helix Control. Also, shut down all Line 6 software or any programs that use audio, like DAWs, iTunes, Spotify, video games, etc. Connect your Helix/HX device to a Mac or PC via USB (do not use any sort of USB hub, which may include the front USB ports on towers) and turn it on. Launch the new version of HX Edit 2.90 you installed in Step 1 above. If you're not signed in, click "Check for Updates" in the lower right corner and sign in. If you're already signed in, a dialog panel appears, indicating an update is available. Click "Update Now." A window appears, asking you to back up your Helix/HX hardware. Click OK, optionally rename the backup and/or choose a different destination folder, and then click "Create Backup." IMPORTANT! Note the location where you've saved the backup. Continue following the prompts. Once updated, the window reads "Update Complete" and your Helix/HX hardware begins rebuilding its presets; wait for this to complete and click "Back to HX Edit." From the File pull-down menu, click "Restore from backup..." A dialog appears. Click "Restore Backup" and then "Yes." Once the restore has finished, turn your Helix/HX product off and then on again. If you have Helix Control connected to Helix Rack, turn on Helix Control. Helix Rack reads "Helix Control must be updated to work properly." Press Knob 6 (OK). The important bit is the backup and RESTORE section especially item 6 in red type!

Not exactly hours, but a few starter videos can be found here: Plus - this has been around for years, but it’s worth a look. https://uk.line6.com/tone-templates/

Nice start, P1KW, First post and you have just resurrected a thread that died almost 3 years to the day. Mind out for zombies!

Hi Adam, It may be best to open a ticket with Line 6 Support, at least that way they will have been made aware of an issue. They can investigate if this is a problem with software or hardware. There is the “Sticky Thread” for bug reports at the top of this page, but there is no guarantee that anyone from Line 6 will see or read it. It mainly an area where users can post things they have found that could be confirmed by fellow users before raising a ticket with CS. Good luck and stay safe.

Oh, I see - even though your Helix can store 1,024 presets (arranged in 8 sets lists of 128 presets in 4 banks of 32) you aren’t happy if you have to switch from your idea of a “mega-rig” to a different preset. It should all be available in one preset? There is a reason they are referred to as “ setlists”. Next song, next preset - seems like a good idea to many users. Your premise of “the flexibility to pretend I have a real board and don’t have to switch into a new preset.” and how you are approaching things rather defeats the object of having a Helix in the first place. Frankly I’m baffled that you think that this is too complicated and want to do everything in one preset. The whole concept of this unit is flexibility. Which is precisely why the people at Line 6 added “snapshots” for the equivalent of a many presets within a single preset and “trails” on delays, reverbs etc, to carry over while changing from one preset to the next. The idea was to reduce the “tap dancing” involved with a huge analogue pedal board. It may be me, but I don’t think that you are using what you have to it’s best advantage. What do you have in those other one thousand and twenty three preset slots? Your concept of not enough DSP being available is purely down to how you have chosen to use it. Sorry, I just don’t comprehend your logic, in fact it is totally illogical. Your mileage, very obviously, does vary.

Well, IIRC, it used to be that you would go to the Global Settings -> Footswitches and then set Touch Select to “Off”. You are saying this is no longer the case. Mmm... If that has changed, I’m not aware of it and I’m not near my Helix at the moment so I’m unable to verify that. Most odd.

Button behavior: Snapshots vs Command Center Snapshots
datacommando replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
Hi Geoff, When you updated the firmware you would have made a back up of the stuff on your hardware. During the process of updating all the Global settings in your Helix will have been reset, ie. wiped. To restore your settings simply open HX Edit and under file click "Restore From Backup" which should point to your backup and the just check (green tickmark) only the Global Settings option and then click the "Restore Backup" button and let it do it's stuff. When it finishes everything should be back how you had it previously. Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Button behavior: Snapshots vs Command Center Snapshots
datacommando replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
I watched the Steve Sterlacci video on UChoob a couple of days back, where he was saying how great the Command Centre control system was and, although it’s not something that I really need, I was impressed. It seems he made a couple of presets to do a “walk through” demo of this stuff. If anyone who is working with this feature and wants to check out if something is not working correctly check this out. The presets are on Customtone. Hope this helps/makes sense -
Button behavior: Snapshots vs Command Center Snapshots
datacommando replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
You might want to check in the pinned “Helix Bug Reports” thread at the top of this forum, there is something posted from a user named ”Melissiah” who has uploaded pictures of something odd with Command Centre displaying Snapshots incorrectly since the v2.91 patch. It. Seems that everything worked as expected in v2.90. It is something that I’m not familiar with, but this may be a bug that needs correcting quickly. -
Ahh! Now I understand the issue. It is not something that I have experimented with to any extent just yet. Maybe best to raise a ticket with support, unless someone else knows what may be causing the problem. Sorry, I’m not able to assist this time.

This picture is a little confusing. The Command Centre image is showing what is assigned to FS9 (Heavy) not what is assigned to FS4 (Snapshot6). Does this still happen if you reprogram FS4 to something else?

I think you may have answered this yourself - you don’t need the extra bells and whistles of a floor unit, why buy one? As for expression pedal breakage, well AFAIK, there was a spate of pedals that did break in the early production runs, but any that did have this problem were quickly replaced FOC by Line 6. I don’t think I have heard of many breaking recently. If for any reason yours was defective and still under warranty it would probably be fixed or replaced. If you are really worried about damage, why not buy a sturdy external pedal and use that. It will do what you want and it’s cheaper than paying for features that you will never use. Although what baffles me is, if the build quality of the LT is a worry for you, why did you buy it in the first place? Hope this helps/makes sense.

Good morning to sunny Manchester, Hey up - use your Helix to monitor and you’ll have zero latency. That’s the whole point, because if you use software monitoring you will experience lots of nasty artefacts - that way lays madness! No, simply use your Helix USB in and out for an easy life. For example my Helix floor unit sends processed guitar audio to Logic Pro X on USB 1&2 and the dry signal on USB 7, so that can be used to re-amp if I want to. My Tannoy Reveal 805s are connected to the Helix XLR output sockets and they playback the stuff from the DAW along with the Helix audio - no latency. Your Helix LT becomes your sound card. Result - happiness! Hope this helps/makes sense

Line 6 Helix LT used and I think its not the original power cable.
datacommando replied to nathanael1206's topic in Helix
Hi, Is there a particular reason why you think it wouldn’t be fine - i wouldn’t mind being kept at that temperature. I would possibly worry more about humidity with a big box of electronics. Plus it could well be a lot warmer inside a gig bag. -
Native install issues with Studio One 4
datacommando replied to Meatball-Hero's topic in Helix Native
Hi, A little more info might help as there are several versions of Studio One 4 available for Mac and PC. Also, AFAIK, it is possible to use VST2, VST3 and/or AudioUnits type plugins - which did you choose? On a Mac, for example, you would find Native AU inside the Components folder, the VST version likewise in the VST folder etc. You could try a re-install. Hope this makes sense/helps. EDIT: There is another post on here where someone is having problems with HX Native Saving presets in Presonus Studio One. Presonus have indicated that there is some issues with using Helix products and their software. It may be advisable to contact Line 6 Support and raise a ticket. Here’s the link to the other post: -
HX Stomp or Other Interface When Using Native/Logic
datacommando replied to evolz's topic in Helix Native
Hi evolz, I find that I must agree with “soundog” and what he say in his post above. Universal Audio equipment is excellent quality and very expensive, therefore I would ask is the investment going to be worth the return. Unless your colleague is Alan Parsons, l wouldn’t bother just for the sake of it. A Scarlett and HX Stomp should be good enough. Use the Scarlett and a decent vocal mic for vox and acoustic guitar etc. Your Stomp is specifically designed to handle electric guitar and bass, so no problem there. As you state that you are using software synths and virtual instruments therefore the output from them will be printed direct to disk there is no real advantage in spending lots of cash. I would guess that when you finalise your audio projects, you pass on the stems or finished stereo mix of your production to someone else. If that’s the case, they will be listening through a completely different setup. The thing you need to do is focus on is capturing the cleanest and best signal at source. Providing there are no glitches, clicks, pops and unwanted distortion when you are listening back through some quality studio monitors you should be fine. There is no substitute for skill - as many have found to their detriment - having all the gear and no idea will always be exactly that. Why go to unnecessary expense - try to polish you recording techniques first. Practice gain staging and capturing the best take. Remember, there are people out there producing quality music on no more than an iPad and GarageBand. Hope this helps/makes sense -
Hi W Elliott, As you have probably realised by now - there isn’t a tuner in HXN, never has been and I’m not so sure that there ever will be. IIRC, the reason the tuner is not included is the fact that as Native runs inside a DAW a tuner is probably already in the workstation. Essentially- no point in duplicating a feature that’s there, is the Line 6 product manger’s reasoning. Oh, yes - the joke references are more than likely aimed at a user on the main Helix forum pages. Right from the off, “spikey” was pestering for a tuner in HX Edit and later Native - it has become a bit of a running joke to many people, especially around firmware update time. Hope this helps/makes sense. Stay safe.

Guys, If you suspect this might be a bug then the best place to post your comments is in the "Helix Bug Reports" thread that is pinned at the top of this forum. I know it says Helix in the title. but it covers all the HX products. Stay safe.
