Hi, I’m not a Cakewalk user, but from your screen grabs it is obvious that the input signal is too hot and AFAIK, there is no way to adjust this on the Cakewalk end. You don’t mention if this is happening with every preset or only one. If it is on a few presets and you are still clipping the inputs even with the large output knob, it may be worth trying to back off the output from each preset. Select the final output block from the signal chain (there can be up to 4), using the first 2 knobs under the display screen you should now be able to adjust both Pan and Level. Try rolling off a few dB of level until the signal in your DAW Is usable. Check the Helix Owner’s Manual page 22 for more. Oh! Once more you don’t mention what guitar is going into your Helix because, IIRC, I have read somewhere that batteries and active pickups have been known to cause issues similar to yours. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Clarification. Sadly, according to the manual, the “Digital Output” and “Digital Output Level” options that you mention only works with S/PDIF and AES/EBU or by connecting a L6 LINK which will disable those others two. USB audio is not affected by these settings, which is what “Smootasbutta” is using to record into Cakewalk.

I know you have the BOSS ES5 switching system, but you don’t say what amp this is patching into and is the HXFX going via the ES5. Maybe that is where the responsiveness is getting lost. It’s not very clear how you have this hooked up. How about if you try this simple 4CM setup: Your Guitar -> HXFX Input -> Some Effects (UVibe, Phaser) -> FX Loop 1 Block -> HXFX Send 1 -> Your Amp Input -> Amplifier FX Loop Send -> Helix Return 1 -> More Effects -> HXFX Left/Mono Out -> Amplifier FX Loop Return There are 2 Send/Returns available on the HX Effects so you could add your Mobius on a second block. I don’t know - maybe you have tried all this already, but you should be getting good results with your HX box.

Hi, Have another look in that handy manual. Page 28 shows the signal flow and how to move blocks. Simply select your Modulation Block (Phaser) and move it in front of the Distortion Block (Overdrive). Basically you can move blocks wherever you wish so if you want to add a chorus after a reverb - you can. Have fun.

Hi again, The “.dmg” file is a Mac “disk image file” which is a software delivery package containing all the files you require to perform an update. Once you launch the .dmg file the integral installer will place on your computer the HX Edit librarian and patch management application along with any required drivers, plus a copy of Line 6 Update/installer. The thing is that you want to regress you firmware and Helix is a little picky about that, so HX Edit and the version of the firmware must match. Therefore It may be advisable to delete any earlier versions of the Line 6 Updater and HX Edit from your computer. Check version numbers by selecting each item and use “get info” from the ”Finder” to determine which is correct. A stray “alias” or shortcut to another version can cause problems. Ensure no other Line 6 software is running and connect your HXFX to your Mac with a good USB cable then launch the Updater application. If you are not connected to the internet it will show up like your previous example screen shot where it shows “Local File” then click the button which says “Choose File”. That I’ll bring up a dialogue to navigate to where your v2.70 firmware is. Select and proceed with the reversion to the earlier software. i have just realised that I am giving you instructions for regressing to an older version of the firmware, but have you tried doing a factory reset on the HXFX to see if that works?

Hi, From the menu bar at the top of this page, click on the “DOWNLOAD” option, from the next page select “ALL SOFTWARE” and then select “HX EDIT” from the drop down menu. Now click on the “ALL SOFTWARE” and select the correct OS for your computer, then click the “GO” button. On the next page, scroll down to find whichever version of the firmware you require, then click the blue “GET DOWNLOAD” button. This will download a copy of the firmware to your computer where you need to unpack (unzip) the file and you should use the Updater application to select the local file that you wish to install. Hope this helps/makes sense.

I don’t want to be unhelpful, but as v2.82 has been available since last September and v2.80 since mid 2019, this forum has been inundated with similar issues to the one you mention. There is even a specific thread which states: I cannot comprehend how you spent an afternoon trawling Google and did not find this and many others detailing the possible fixes. I really don’t want to type out all the instructions required to solve this for you because they are all available if you look, therefore I’m just going to state “ The answer is out there!” This might be an obvious place to start!

Hi, From what you are saying it looks as if you have discovered that GarageBand will record the stereo output (USB 1&2) straight from your HXLT, complete with any, or all amp and FX, you have on that preset. The audio signal that you recorded from USB channel 7 is the mono dry unaffected signal direct from your guitar. You can play back the dry signal through USB 3/4 or 5 /6 into your HXLT provided you have set it to receive the input on those ports. This makes it possible to play through other presets to create a totally different sound using various amps and effects. The new sound can also be recorded back into GB using the USB1&2. A further advantage of having the dry guitar signal recorded, is that you can also run that audio through any other guitar processing AU plug-ins that you have available in your DAW. you can make as many different recorded versions as you wish from the "one take". Here's a video that show how it works - hope this clarifies the re-amping idea for you.

Hi, Now that you know your Helix functions as it should, the issue must be your computer. Usually, when someone asks for assistance with these sort of problems, it is helpful to describe what computer and operating system specifications are. Once we can eliminate the obvious faults, then we can look at other possible causes. Previously we have had Helix users who complained that the Helix was at fault, only to find out later that their particular computer was the issue. Some examples of those problems are driver and motherboard conflicts. I hope this helps - makes sense. The final line of the release notes for Firmware 2.50, under improvements and changes, states: Mac OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) is no longer supported. From that, I would think, the inference would be if FW 2.50 doesn’t function with OSX 10.9, that’s a “cut off point” therefore, it will not work with the earlier 10.8. X Mountain Lion or any prior OS. Here's a quote from "surfbop1" in a thread from Feb 2018 "I am using Mountain Lion and Edit 2.51 does not work for me. The firmware 2.5 is there but the edit will not work. I noticed on the edit down load page that Mavericks and Mountain Lion are no longer supported. I can't update past Mountain Lion as I'm using PT10. Hope we're not SOL. I think I will try the Mac download and hope that works. Worst case would be at 2.50 with the 2.30 editor." The trouble with his "worst case" theory and why it won't work is HX Edit and the Helix Firmware revision number MUST MATCH You could try v2.3 from November 2017, but again - why? It may be harsh, but it looks like you are going to have to upgrade your OS if you wish to take full advantage of the way Helix is progressing. Another option is to have a friend install the latest Firmware and only use the Helix as a hardware editor and not use HX Edit or maybe buy a Windows PC. Or keep banging the rocks together! Hopefully, that will clear up the issues you are currently having.

Hi, This question has appeared on a few previous occasions and as Mountain Lion was released in mid 2012 the usual answer is “why?”. OSX updates are free. IIRC, the release notes for one of the previous FW updates (2.5?) contained the comment: Note OSX Mavericks is no longer supported. At those prices, what have you got to lose, always handy to have a spare or even have one to stick into the back of a controller keyboard. I considered one of the Ernie Ball gizmos until I realised that it was a string driven thing. I wouldn’t want to spend a wad of cash on those fancy ones, unless it was “mission critical” - ha, ha - see what did there! Feeble attempt at humour.

Many people complained about how sensitive this feature was, in fact some even reverted to v2.7 firmware and all was how it had been. Doing this shows that you don’t have a faulty joystick and it is a function in the firmware. Try it - it works. :-)

Hi, I would suggest that because your P-255 is a stereo device, it may be advisable to take the separate left and right outputs on mono cables into either of the Helix returns 1/2 or 3/4 which can act as stereo input blocks. It is probably the cable you are using at the moment that is not getting the signal through. Note: If you only have a single Powercab to monitor with, then your audio will be summed to mono. Also, you’re correct about MIDI - it only sends digital commands and doesn’t carry audio signals. Hope this helps/makes sense.

When you say “pedal range” then I guess that you mean how much the pedal physically travels? Well, for me they work just fine, similar to the onboard pedal. Used as a volume controller, when I push the toe down I get 100% and, likewise, with heel down 0% - result silence. As for wah duties, then I, like many other users, have found it helpful to set the peak on the top end to around 90% or sometimes even less. Recently, in another, forum a guy was saying that he really loves his optical Steve Vai “Bad Horsie” unit, apart from the fact that is will not stay in a parked position to get that “cocked wah” effect. I haven’t tried one of those pedals, but these stay where you leave them. A lot of these expensive models seem to be really overpriced for what in the most part is a potentiometer being moved be a rack and pinion contraption inside a box. Ye gods, the EB even use a piece of string - that’s very high tech. I will stick with the cheap and cheerful ones, that should one fail it won’t cost me an internal organ to replace. In the past I have owned and used both Coloursound and Dunlop units, but my absolute favourite was the old Electro Harmonix Crying Muff Fuzz pedal. As usual YMMV.

Hi, I understand what you are saying, but there have been many requests for “up to date” manuals to be made available and if you trawl this and other forums you will find that the general consensus of opinion is that Owner’s Manuals will only be revised with major Firmware updates. That means - don’t expect anything new until v3.0 FW, and even then it may not go as deep as you may wish. One reply from Digital Igloo stated the even creating revised manuals as Acrobat pdf format, rather than print, is extremely complex and time consuming because of the many languages that need to be translated for a global marketplace. As you stated in your original post, “most parameters are obvious“ - others just need playing around with. There isn’t anything totally esoteric in there, especially if you have used FX pedals previously. Hope this helps/makes sense

Hi, HX Edit allows you to move your presets to whatever position you would like. It’s the free editing and librarian software for your HXStomp. It may also be worth having a read of the HX Stomp Owner’s Manual. Take ten minutes and look at these videos. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Most, if not all, of the “Legacy FX” are the same as, or derived from the M units you mention, so you have all the info you need right there in those manuals. Also, not a printed manual, but a good resource for Helix users. https://helixhelp.com
