I've had no issues with no preamp block at all just straight in with a bit of reverb but I did have to give the gain a bit of a crank I'm using an Audio Texhnica

You need to go into global settings and give it a bit of gain

Setting the Mix to toggle on one of the foot switches does the trick Can you rename or colour Footswtches that control parameters? I can't seem to find a way of doing it?
