  1. Chase up your ticket I have managed to get mine returned to have the mic looked at But you need to keep on top of it on the ticketing system
  2. It's not a volume issue its dynamics The way I traditionally set up is to run the amp until it is borderline too loud and then back off with my playing until I need to dig in (with an expression pedal to boost) Problem I have in a non valve set up is that this technique just makes everything too loud all the time If I turn it down then it doesn't punch through so much when I dig in It's hard to explain and to be honest it's an under the fingers thing more than an out front sound thing If you were in the audience having a beer you would have no idea I was struggling. I do wonder some times if we are setting up a ton of equipment to try and replicate something that is fairly easy to do (hence my other post .. Do I need the amp modelling)
  3. The Helix without the amp modelling I want to try what I did with the M13 which was to run it into a pair of two rocks and switch the modelling off. I'm loving it as a recording device but live I'm not quite there yet Things are better once I started running it through a valve power amp but I'm kind of defying the conventional Helix FRFR logic. I love the flexibility of the Fx in it and I'm actually starting to wonder if I need the amp modelling at all. The joy of the Helix is the routing can give me the choice I could for example split the path and have no amp modelling for the 1/4 outs and feed them straight into my two rocks but put models on the FOH xlr outputs for support So many things to try Unfortunately my unit gets picked up tomorrow to get the Mic input repaired so I'm going to have to work with my back up M13s in the meantime.
  4. For onstage I'm using a completely non FRFR solution of a Freyette power station and an orange Cab I still think it needs some glass to give it The punch to get over the drummer. I still can't get my head around the flat volume response of solid state amps even with all the Helix modelling. Don't get me wrong it sounds amazing . The best sound board I have heard (and I've just sold my FX8) but without a Valve power section it just doesn't work for me. That's probably down to my playing style and how it has developed over the last 30 years to work with the sag and dynamics of Valves However with the Freyette I get he best of both worlds
  5. What do you use for your diagrams
  6. If you really like the silver jubilee this will solve that issue for you http://www.rjmmusic.com/products/mini-amp-gizmo/
  7. I'm not a mind reader You didn't say any of that up until now And it's not like I didn't ask you twice !
  8. No he didn't unless I missing somethingAll he is saying is you can potentially retrofit relays to the Helix if you have a carefree attitude to warranties and excellent soldering plus electronics skills At no point was 4 cm grounding mentioned or expression pedal sweep even discussed As for 'at the cost of only a dollar' really? Ok I'll send you a dollar. Go and fit one to a helix Also how do you know he was right? Have you retrofitted one to a helix? I understand your frustration but you have to be reasonable. I don't think you have enough of a technical background to make the broad sweeping statements you are There is an issue here but it is being muddied by 4cm grounding and expression pedal sweep So let's just focus on the Amp relay please
  9. I don't see any mention (or any reason) why implementing those relays get rid of 4cm ground loop him or have any effect on the expression pedal Can you show me what I've missed? Interesting thread though it looks like he Helix switching isn't done using relays. I can understand why not. Fractal have to put massive disclaimers in their manual saying if it is not a short to sleeve switching amp or you don't know what you are doing you can damage the unit I think line6 have taken a safer approach which is having some unintended consequences
  10. Ok firstly lets split out the amp switching issues Ground loops hum is a different issue that will occur with almost any amp and footswitch in any setup There are remedies but let's not Lump them together Secondly the expression pedal is also a different issue and I'm not really sure what you mean by worth . Do you mean the maximum value drops to 97%? It's worth bearing in mind that amps have many different switching methods The Fractal guys are having very similar conversations over there. I'll try what I've got lying around here (I don't have access to all my amps at the moment but I've got a few) It would be really useful if Line6 would confirm if the switching is short to sleeve only
  11. What amps do you have Rudomat and which one works
  12. A couple of people have asked but I don't see an answerHave you tried the switching with the amp volume switch pulled out?
  13. Your video is encouraging insomuch as it is actually switching something and consistently So it is likely something to do with the pin out of that particular amp I'll do a quick bit of reading
  14. I can't find details in the manual Does anyone know what type of switching the Helix supports? I assume it's short to sleeve rather than voltage differential but it would be good to know from someone technical
  15. That's interesting It looks like he's creating his own version of the POG to give the necessary octaves In theory it's doable but I'm actually really surprised at how well he has it working Might be time to take my B9 out of the helix loop
  16. Loads of threads already on this It's a known bug There is a driver being issued by line6 but it is only in beta at the moment
  17. I would settle for a mic input that doesn't burn out of you plug and unplug a mic from it
  18. He'll just set it to what's comfortable in the room for these demosI doubt he worries too much about it
  19. If you are running the 1/4 into an amp FX loop that would be deafening? Mine sits at around 10 o clock and that's loud
  20. I found it useful and I'm sure others will as well. I had never thought of it the way that you had in terms of accurately modelling an amp and it's fx. It has been an interesting thread
  21. I worked with a digital mixing desk once where they forgot to put balanced outputs Just plain missed it out Lots of public fronting but that's what happened
  22. I'll bet you dollars to donuts it was an oversight Happens all the time
  23. For my part I've never noticed it because that's not how I use the helix I design a sound that I want to use and the names of the emulated amp blocks and pedals just make things simpler as I've got a fair bit of experience of the kit they were modelled on. So if I'm looking for a class A Vox kind of tone then I start there and begin modifying. If I want a fender twin with some drive into it ...etc I've never tried actually modelling my amps before.
  24. I saw you talking about AMPS but I got a little confused as I don't really consider the Helix an Amp It's an FX unit to me. I mean you yourself are running it into two AMPS so I thought you were using the amps as an illustration but broadening to things like FX units Not to beat this to death but a Line 6 effects unit is about as far from an old Yamaha amp as a Segway is to a Lancia Delta Hence my confusion Anyway whatever works for you matey
  25. Most monitor wedges are pretty full range to be fair (mine are L2s but even he ubiquitous Wharfdales have a decent tweeter and driver) To Kensington on point one. I plugged the Helix straight in with not cuts and it sounded utterly hellish at volume Fizzy high end and boomy overbearing bass. Fine at bedroom volumes but real big Smile EQ. I have to cut masses off the top and bottom to even make it out once the drummer and bassist are going Maybe that's a symptom of me designing patches at too quiet a. Volume. Plus I trust most sound engineers as far as I can chuck em. There are a couple of good ones on our circuit . The rest don't have a feckin clue
