I'm just playing more than I have in several years thanks to Helix and a few pedals. Nice to see that this forum is helping folks! It sure has helped me with Helix, as there are lots of good ideas shared here.

Sure an old cable might not stay that way, just like Helix might break too. But until a problem shows it's ugly head, just keep an extra cable or two in the bag and worry about problems after they happen. Less stress and ulcers that way. :)

The tuner is a nervous hyperbolic jerk fest and needs to be fixed. That said, I've not seen it ever be that far off. Is another guitar acting the same, or just the Variax?

Buy the rack and the controller, very nice paired up and pedal port problems are solved. I don't know about using the Yamaha FS6-7 midi controllers (they are TRS arnt they?) as I use an Ernie Ball Volume pedal and a Mission SP1-L6 controller for the wah.

You can use the return "in" for the dry and monitor L/R ins for the wet.

And that's exactly what I use for my Helix FRFR wise. Of course I'm protecting my investments (who doesnt?) but even so, I love the sounds too. ;) As always and once again, YMMV...

Agree with rd2, everyone's ears are different and if both sound good some will like one while others like the other one. The ears you will have to please the most is your own.

Hummm, It seems that I've read elsewhere where Macbook Pros have issues with the Helix Editor more than other hardware. I don't know why that was now or even if that was a part of something else too, sorry. Was there perhaps a USB 2 versus 3 thing that was causing issues? Just don't remember now.

Correct. Yes, but IIRC you will have to turn this on in the menus. I have not tried that one yet. Lemme know :D

Not that people cause issues with electronic stuff ;) everyone needs to get rid of what I call the "3-pound hammer technic" when operating equipment. Not making excuses for things that just break but..., Another thing that also bugged me about the floor unit and the reason why I have a rack unit is..., Here's a $1500.00 guitar processor, now set it on the floor and step all over it!

The software communicates with the Helix unit when updating. The HD modeling experience will help some, but they are totally different units. It's pretty easy to get started. Just hook it up and turn it on, follow the update instructions exactly, then adjust for taste and play.

I use the Monitor L/R in jacks from Helix's Main outs. You can also use (if you want to) an aux send set to line level tapped directly behind the cab (and before the delay and verbs) into the return jack on the FH1500. This FX return jack connection then uses the horn as well in the FH1500. Otherwise you are just using to two outside mids and 12".

Humm, pure speculation but it kinda acts like a memory leak on the Helix side of things. Mine has frozen again from time to time, not too often and everytime with usb attached and running with the editor on my Mac.

Soon as the code update gets written for the day and the trash gets emptied and floor vacuumed, I'm sure he will get around to updating the manual. If they could just get DI to do anything over there besides hang out on the forums.... ;)
