Hi All - Anyone tried a fryette power station with a Helix?
spikey replied to HoldsworthAM's topic in Helix
So did you sell the PS2 or keep it? I thought maybe adding something like this, only with a 1960a stereo cab. -
+1 but only an emulated one. Very nice. Now please do one for sorting IRs and replacing them in correct slots back into Helix.

Nice test Hamm. I actually prefer the IR on the 1st go over the guitar. On the 2nd guitar I liked the guitar but just a slight bit more. The IR's seem a tad darker, or of less peaks. I know they were normalized but still. On the 3rd, Im back to the IR. Smoother, creamy goodness.

Seals? I didnt know that there were animules inside of Helix... With fuses ... Wow... :P

Ok so he is using 2 sets of aux Send/Rtn pairs (one pair set to instrument and the other to line lvls) to do this... Edited: Nevermind. I just found out that the 1/4" outs can be set to either line level, or instrument level out. Something like this... EDITED- see below!
-
Out of Helix and into the amp. Thats where Im wondering what was used. Out of Helix thru aux send 1 can be set to instrument level, which would be correct to send to the amps guitar input, otherwise you hit the front end of the amp too hard with line lvl signals. And if you then send out (to the return of Helix) of the load box back to Helix, thats a line lvl signal from the load box. So you cant use aux one, cause its set to "instrument" level as a pair, correct? And you cant use both line lvl and instrument lvl on the same send/return set, correct?

I always turn trails on, but the option to turn it off is better than no option.

So Pete is "sending a signal out of the Helix" (just to understand this) using one of the Aux Sends (set to instrument) on Helix to his amp input (and return into Helix (set to line in) from the load box line out) to his amp? Is that correct? So he's using two aux ins and outs pairs, using one of each set/pair to instrument send (aux 1) and line lvl return (aux 2) correct? The reason Im being anal is because you cannot set the send to instrument and the return to line on the same aux pair, right? And does the instrument lvl Aux send from Helix give the amp input the right impedance from the guitar pups? Or did I miss something?

The reason to set the Crown (or any amp thats volume controlled by another unit) to max volume, to for "Head Room", not maximum volume. Huge difference but I assume most already know this.

My big problem in having so many choices with these things (which is a good thing but time consuming) is that it takes away from my playing time. Im either a tweaking mad scientist or a guitar player but no time for both lol... BTW- nice looking strat you have, but whats the purpose of the velcro passed the nut?

The amp model was just a bit more treble'y to my old ears, other wise they sounded very close.
-
1. You can leave at -18 db until you are more comfy with the tones, as it just increases the volume of the frequencies that IR produces. Set to taste pretty much. 2. The placement of the mic from the center of the cone to the outer edge of the speaker equates to center being more treble versus the edge being less treble. Being a "home" guitarist is a good thing as you are in a majority Im thinking. :D My advice is to play with the IR's for about an hour, and write down which ones you like the best. Why just an hour? Because you will get "ear" Fatigue and that ruins your ability to choose correctly after so long. By the 3rd or forth day you should have a selection of several IR's you prefer over the rest. Dont worry too much about more of them that are not to your liking, as this happens a lot. There are several thousand IR's to choose from so just use what sounds good and enjoy! Hope this helps! B)

MDV? Money Drugs and Violence? Moldavian Airlines? Meridian Display Vehicle? Milk vetch dwarf virus?
-
For me only I cant play like either one, butttt, if I stayed on the island and could only choose either Eddie or Stevie Ray, Id choose SRV every day and twice on Sunday. As always YMMV and thats ok too. :)

Work Bench Integration is supposed to be coming soon to a theater near you.

I flat guessing (again), but it appears that there is an export elephant (sales) depending on an import mouse (service). Im mean If you have only 2 coders working on huge amount of software requests we caused, the bottlenecked back negative pressure must be 10 -12 or so and climbing. If thats the case, poor DI is stuck in the middle of all this and griping (esp. mine) doesn't help, sigh.... Sorry DI. Must... control.... sarcasm..... fingers....

Yes... YES! Run a fake emulated editor instead of the real editor, for the emulated amps and cabs! Then just run dual monitors, and both programs and once and viola! EMULATION at its finest! Like the IRs theres No imports after patching of course, yet... We could call it..., Felix, like the cat! Helix and Felix ;) :P
-
Simplistic view is this- an IR file (like the presets file) is needed so that we can save the location of all our used IR's, as long as they are set/placed in a location folder that the Helix editor can find.
-
You have heard about the emulated LGBT current that gets loose at times and blows all the fuses?
-
Sigh, so another wasted post, time lost and nothing learned. Next time bring a bigger dog or better fuse. ;)
-
Thats only because the Fractal forum as one voice asked for and enjoys these updates, and Cliff likes to program like a madman. BTW, theres NOTHING wrong with either.

The loud parts can be handled at FOH, if you have a good sound guy running the mix. Thats the thing isn't it. With a band that understands good dynamics there really no reason to have excessive stage volumes ever, including the drummer. And good dynamics savy drummers know this. The only reason why the drummer has to play loud on stage all the time, is because of deaf guitar and bass players cranking their amps. How do I know this for fact? Ask anyone who is an old rock&roll musician and wears hearing aids now, and they will tell you that this is the real truth. ;)

Well, does the fuse work in Helix like the one on the HD series did, or is this fuse halfway modeled and with much less in the way of protection? ;)
