Same thing goes on in my band. Singer has an Egnater Renegade, and when he plays it it sounds thin and weird. When I play it it sounds great. There's a reason there are so many amps and guitars out there. I can't play Strats, so I would never waste a dime on one. He can play the lollipop outta them. Different strokes. I returned my JTV 59 because I couldn't bond with it. No harm no foul.

Waste of time.

I thought it was a stupid idea. Then it dawned on me: You mean I can have my music playing in the living room, and have my Relay G50 plugged in, and if I just feel like picking up my guitar and noodling in the house without having to lug my other gear in, I can? Just grab guitar, turn music off, Relay on, and bam! Set up one channel with a light dirt tone that goes clean when I back off the volume, and I don't even have to touch my amp? Genius. I don't know about playing along with a song, but I can see potential for that as well. Who didn't learn their favorites by playing along with a record/cd/tape? Listening to music always inspires me to PLAY music. If I can do that with one device, I damn well will. I don't need one, but I am very tempted to buy the 150W because I'm sure I will use it.

I use the tuner in my tc helicon harmony gxt since I need the guitar in tune with that for our shows. It's very accurate and precise enough. I have compared the two, actually, to see how close they were. They are almost exactly the same. I think I've seen the Pod read slightly flat on a couple occasions compared to the tc helicon pedal, but it's negligible.

Found A Great Use For The Dt Customizer Functionality
stumblinman replied to aggravation's topic in DT50 / DT25
Very cool idea! I may do this myself, as I really don't need 8 separate amps. -
Maybe try a compressor for some fatness and sustain.

My rig is one of my Les Pauls into my tc helicon harmony gxt>digitech iStomp>pod input>l6 link to DT25. Pretty simple. I actually have a new pedalboard on the way so I can add my second iStomp, and either my dual OD pedal or my wah. I use one iStomp programmed as an acoustic simulator in the pod fx loop. Eliminated my need for the JTV59 which I was less than impressed with. I've tried enough guitars that I've come to realize I already own the perfect guitar for me: a Les Paul with classic 57's.

Did you ever get your signal chain figured out right using the noise gate pedal?

Weird Overtones On Jtv 59 On Low E
stumblinman replied to stumblinman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Exactly why I returned mine. It still sounded funny and fake with harsh overtones. I'm guessing I don't have a light enough touch, as a lot of guys are very happy with theirs. My second issue was how muddy and middy the mags were. Chinese pickups "wound to JT's specs" simply means: wind until they hit "X" impedance. I could wind wire around a dog turd and still get the right impedance. Alas, it's done now though. Good luck with yours! -
That would be cool. I'm very happy with the pedals, as I will use one for an acoustic simulator instead of using a $1500 guitar to do the same. The other will be most likely a tremolo pedal or maybe a chorus. Just bought a bigger pedalboard so I can fit everything hehe. Bought a Relay G50 so it's gotta fit along with two new pedals. Ran out of real estate.

Can't help you there. I don't use dual amps so my troubleshooting wouldn't be very effective. Try building a new dual amp tone and see if it works at all. If not, then you need to check your input and effects placement and routing to see why one channel has stopped making sound. Mixer pan settings and cabling etc..
-
You can use either. Are you running your Pod fx send into your amp instead of using the 1/4" out? You'd want the noise gate return at the very end of your effects chain to eliminate all the sources of noise and hiss. It would work in the Pod loop, but depending on where in the Pod effects chain you place it, it could be less effective.
-
The noise gate pedal has a loop so it can determine when you are playing guitar and when you are not. This helps it separate noise and hiss from actual guitar sound. You should go: guitar>noise gate in>noise gate loop send>all other pedals and pod>pod output>EQ>noise gate loop return>noise gate out>amp. Boss NS-2 is the same way. Good luck!
-
1. Does your wah add noise to the chain? Why have noise gate after it? 2. Do you want your EQ pedal to sculpt tone into HD for distortion, or to help with final tone? 3. What's wrong with the noise gates in the HD? They don't use much DSP. If you made dual amp tones, then I'd put noise gate in FX loop just before EQ pedal or.... 4. I'd ditch the noise gate, put EQ into Pod FX loop as the last thing in effects chain before amp, and put wah before Pod.

Flip top (for acoustic) Plexi Brt JTM45 for cleans Treadplate for really dirty The rest I fiddle with, but I keep coming back to these 4

Couldn't bond with it. Too honky and phony sounding. Piezos just aren't for me. The mags don't sound as good as my 57 classics in my LP, so for that much money, it had to go back. Thanks guys for all your help trying to get it decent, I really appreciate it. Guess I'll just see y'all in the DT and HD forums now..

Tubes are consumable. I think some websites warranty 30 days or something, but if they are stock tubes, it's time to throw some new ones in.
-
My plan is to use one as tremolo at all times before my Pod and maybe use the other one as the "glimmer drive" for dirt or a clean boost depending on the knobs. I already downloaded all the pedals and requested the labels, so hopefully tomorrow when they arrive I can try a few different things out and see what I like. My m5 had too many issues, I couldn't trust it.
-
Saw musiciansfriend had these little puppies on clearance for $39.99 so I grabbed two. Anyone else here used them? Mine are arriving tomorrow. Figured I couldn't go wrong with 2 stomps I can choose and configure for less than an M5. The whole issue of being tied to iOS devices isn't really an issue for me. We have 5 of the damn things around the house, so keeping one around for a while won't be too tough. But I digress. So, anyone used them?

Weird Overtones On Jtv 59 On Low E
stumblinman replied to stumblinman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Finally got my admin reply, so I was able to download the banks and install them. After install, I lowered all the string volumes 2 db and I may do it a few db more. Already sounds so much better. -

Wrong forum. Needs to get moved into the original Variax forum. Might get more help there. -
Weird Overtones On Jtv 59 On Low E
stumblinman replied to stumblinman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I know. I said that several posts ago as well. But, I still want to set up the guitar and see if it's even worth keeping once the volume levels aren't so high. All the acoustics have a click sound when you strike a string like when you are using a very squished compressor. Very ugly sounding. This whole guitar is a PITA. Makes me very glad I didn't pay full price for it and bought it while GC had it at $1083. At least then I'm willing to even dink with it, if I paid $1499 I'd be up in arms about it. I do appreciate all the input though guys. Thanks for that. -
Weird Overtones On Jtv 59 On Low E
stumblinman replied to stumblinman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I hooked it up to workbench once to fiddle with that, but then was paranoid about saving anything after hearing about the strat "position 2" problem, so I didn't save anything. I'm still waiting to be approved by the vguitarforums.com admins so I can download the volume-leveled bundle for the models. Been 4 days and no reply. Tried again, and it said my username was in use. So I'm guessing I'm in limbo. Can't reapply, not getting an answer. Is it safe to change global volume and upload to JTV? Or will that mess up the strat tones?
