Feature request: Snapshots that don't recall block on-offs
silverhead replied to zooey's topic in Helix
Perhaps I misunderstand. Within any snapshot you can still assign stomp FS as usual to dynamically control the on/off state of any block without switching snapshots. And you can freely mix up to 4 simultaneous snapshot and stomp switches in the display. So can you not assign your volume boost FX as a stomp in every snapshot and use it as desired? -
Yes - I've had the freeze-up happen a couple of times and I suspect it has to do with older patches in imported custom setlists and the timing of rebuilding them. I also did the forced rebuild at startup and haven't had problems since (although I haven't tested for long or thoroughly).

Explain Snapshots and how they're different from presets.

I think it's a testament to the excellence of the user interface that people find they get along just fine without the manual. Still there are lots of little known goodies in there and it's worth a read. -
Explain Snapshots and how they're different from presets.
silverhead replied to clay-man's topic in Helix
If your display does not show the snapshots associated with the footswitches already you need to press the Bank Up/Down footswitches simultaneously. This will temporarily display the snapshots within the preset, each one associated with a footswitch. All lights will be flashing indicating that you need to select one. The display will then revert to its previous state. If your display is in 10-stomp mode y will need to use the Mode switch to see the snapshots. Select one and hit the Mode switch again to get back to the previous display. (All this is clearly documented in the new manual. 😉) -
Lost all IRs & snapshot settings updating to 2.01
silverhead replied to guitarboyrocks's topic in Helix
It's well documented in the manual, more thoroughly and clearly than I could do here. -
You can reinstall 2.01 directly. No need to start at v2.0

Lost all IRs & snapshot settings updating to 2.01

You may need to change the global Display (or Footswitches?) settings to have the snapshot names appear with the footswitches. It's normal to have to reload IRs after a firmware update. -
L3t speaker buzzes when running to desk
silverhead replied to mcbeddall's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
From the manual: 13. Loop Thru Output –This output duplicates the signal received at the Line input jack. 14. Mix Out Output –This output sends a mix of all three channels (Channel 1, Channel 2, and back panel inputs) Sounds like the Loop Thru would be best in your case. -
Well, you can use the HD500X Edit program without the HD500X device connected. So you could load your saved setlists into the editor and change/resave them all you want using just your computer. Problem is you won't be hearing any sound as you make the changes because it's the HD500X that makes the sounds. And without the USB connection the HD500X can't communicate with the editor, nor with anything else on your computer.

L3t speaker buzzes when running to desk
silverhead replied to mcbeddall's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
I would start by checking the signal level coming from the L3t Mix Out XLR connection. I don't know if it is dependent on the L3t Master volume level but I expect so. Your output signal may be too hot (or not hot enough) for the PA desk input. Any adjustment to the L3t Master level will require a compensating adjustment of the incoming level to the L3t from your Firehawk FX. -
Just to test for a USB conflict, try powering off your computer and POD HD, disconnecting all other USB devices on your computer, and powering both computer and POD HD back on. Try again. What happens? Edit: I notice that the title of this thread mentions PD HD Edit but you say you have an HD500. I presume you just made a typo in the title and that you are actually using the correct editor, POD HD500 Edit.

How does the M20D record ?
silverhead replied to sapca's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Here are a few examples: Record Inputs and Main Mix: you might use this option when you want to make a base recording, then adjust the overall mix during playback of the dry recorded channels. At any time you can playback the recorded main mix to listen carefully and identify points where a change to a specific channel is desirable. Then make that change and playback the dry channels again. Over many iterations you create a new 'main mix' that you play and compare to the playback of the originally recorded main mix. Having perfected your overall mix you SAVE the setup for the gig. Record Inputs only: you would use this when you have no intention of adjusting the mix on the M20D. You're just capturing the dry channels for transfer to a DAW for VST processing. Record Main Mix only: again you have no intention of using the M20D for further mixing. You just want to record a live take for transfer to a PC and MP3 formatting. -
Have you tried different USB ports?

Try updating using the USB connection and Line 6 Updater.

Note that on the Helix Rack the rest procedure involves knobs 5 & 6. I assume that's what you did when restarting. I think it's time to open a support ticket to work directly with Line 6 tech support.

Right. Quicker and easier than my suggestion of using the Assign Controllers page.
-
Yes.
-
1) Yes. You need to assign the desired amp parameter (e.g. Drive) to the Snapshots controller. You do this just like you would assign it to an expression pedal, in the Assign Controllers page. Then you can define a different setting for the Drive in each snapshot. 2) There's a global setting that will allow the display to show 4 stomps in one row and 4 snapshots in the other row.
-
Yup. You will also find a big difference in how the tone responds to changes in the guitar's volume knob, pick attack, and other playing dynamics. Helix behaves much more like a real tube amp in these respects.
-
Select the Input block in the preset. Its edit page has a number of parameters including one named Model. This is where you select the Variax model that you want to use in the preset. You also need to have the Settings parameter set to Preset, not Global. Having done that and SAVEd the preset, the chosen model will be selected in the Variax automatically each time the preset is loaded. If you want to be able to automatically switch models within the same preset you have to use Snapshots. In that case you will have to assign the Model parameter to be controlled by Snapshots. You use the Assign Controller page for this. Then you are able to select a different Variax model for each snapshot.
-
The rebuilding will happen automatically - you won't need to do anything. However I'm not exactly sure when the rebuilding occurs. From my observation it does not happen when you import the preset. I think it happens either when you SAVE the imported preset or at the next startup, whichever happens first.
-
Yes - that's no problem. You would have to use 2 different Helix presets OR 2 different Snapshots within the same preset. Your choice.
-
You can load v2.01 directly - no need to go through v2.0. Windows 10 vs. 8 should make no difference. Just make sure you follow the instructions as described on the Downloads page.
-
I actually agree with this. While I don't think it's that difficult to follow the instructions it's clear that the procedure is cumbersome enough to present difficulties for many. A rock-solid one-button-push fully automated procedure would be great. Problem is - it doesn't exist right now. So Line 6 has to make a decision: release new features now, or wait until their development resources are re-allocated to an improved update utility and that utility is fully developed and debugged? I think they are making the right choice. Who knows - they may be working on an improved utility and are continuing to release updates in the meantime with the current set of instructions.
