And Driver version? Did you download just the Updater program or did you download and install the v2.0 Helix app/editor program, which also comes bundled with the latest Line 6 Updater and driver? That's the recommended method.

Just 3 amps in POD UX 2 ???
silverhead replied to psanec6's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Have you run the Line 6 License Manager with the UX2 connected to your computer via usb? -
You do not need v2.0 of the editor to perform the update. However, you DO need the most recent version of Line 6 Updater which is conveniently packaged with the v2.0 editor and is installed along with the editor. So you would have to intentionally download and install just the Line 6 Updater program in order to update the firmware without the editor. However, after installing v2.0 firmware you MUST use the v2.0 editor with it. Previous versions of the editor are incompatible. So I don't see any practical value (but lots of potential problems) if you update the firmware without first installing the v2.0 editor AND the latest Updater program.

I'm not sure - phil_m probably knows better than me on this - but I wonder if you can enter snapshots mode using FS1 and FS7. I'm not at my Helix now to test, but..... Try this: - set your Snapshot Mode Switches global setting to Auto - while in your 10 stomps display, press FS 1 and FS7 simultaneously with your foot. One of two things will happen - either both FS will toggle their associated FX blocks on/off, or it might cause the 8 snapshots to be displayed, and flashing indicating that you need to select one - select the desired snapshot. The display should revert to 10 Stomps. EDIT: OK, the manual seems pretty clear that this won't work. phil_m is correct. Stomp Mode Switches When set to "10 switches," FS1 (BANK ^) and FS7 (BANK ) are re-purposed as additional Stomp switches. This is only for Stomp footswitch mode; while in Preset, Snapshot, or Looper footswitch modes, BANK ^and BANK are retained.

I have two 4' USB cables connected with a joiner, making an 8' cable. I am using USB2.0. No problems.

We can't know what you're doing wrong because you haven't told us what you're doing. ;) In terms of behaviour, the difference appears in the display before and after you select a new snapshot using the up/down footswitches to display the snapshots in a preset. As phil_m has just said there is one setting where you won't notice any difference. However, if your normal display shows banks or presets (rather than snapshots) then the Auto setting will temporarily display the snapshots so that you can select one. Then it will immediately return to the banks or presets display. The Manual setting will cause the snapshot display to continue until you manually change it.

You are running a mixed, incompatible version of the editor and the firmware. The editor's About information is correct. Somehow you have twice downloaded and installed the wrong editor version. Makes me think that Line 6 has a problem with a link somewhere on their website for the v2.0 Mac editor. Are there other users who have encountered this wrong-version problem who have resolved it and can help jkkrozak out?

I am fairly sure that this is coming. It's a priority and rollout thing. Line 6 has so far focused their Helix update efforts on priorities that affect all users - bug fixes, the editor and snapshots. Workbench HD integration affects only Helix users who also use a Variax. It will come later as it did with the POD HD series. I know that's not what Variax owners want to hear, but we need to be patient on this.

Yes you can run a distortion and a phaser or flanger (not both) FX at the same time. The HD300 is designed with three variable FX blocks named FX1, FX2, and FX3. Each block is restricted to certain FX selections and you can select one FX from each block. Since DIST and MOD FX are contained in two different blocks you can select one of each to appear in your signal path.

Make sure you are using the mono, not stereo, looper.

There's no indicator that you're in Stomp mode other than the fact that the display shows what your Global Settings -> Footswitches - Stomp Mode setting is. That's another thing that you have to consider here. There are different options for this setting. To test your issue make sure that this setting is set to '10 Stomps'. It's possible that your setting is something like '4Presets/4Stomps' with presets displayed in the top row of switches. In that case your assignment of FS 1 through 3 for your FX will not be visible even though it was made successfully in the editor - it is overwritten by the Preset display on FS2-5 and the Up/Down switch assignment on FS1 and 7.

That seems weird to me. You could try reinstalling the editor and then the device firmware if necessary. That will sometimes resolve strange issues like this. If that doesn't work and if it continues to bug you you could open a support ticket. But they'd probably just tell you to reinstall as described. But perhaps it's something in the Mac environment that nobody else has noticed or reported yet. I'm on Windows so can't check it out.

OK - now I understand. Did FS 6 not put you in stomp mode? What exactly do you see when you hit FS6? In general, you are right that this is not normal. You should be able to assign footswitches to FX blocks using either the editor or the device. You should not need to do both. Are there any other anomalies in the behaviour of the editor on your system?

I don't think there are specific reasons. It's just another example of a reasonable software- industry-wide practice. At some point you stop supporting older software on new hardware platforms, and vice-versa. Try finding a version of Microsoft Office 95 that runs on a new computer using Windows 10. Line 6 developed a whole new Workbench product that took advantage of new technologies, both software and hardware. It replaced an approximately decade-old product. For how long should the old product continue to be supported on new hardware? They decided that point was reached with the Xseries of the POD HD. I would not expect Helix to be compatible with the original Workbench product either. It's not yet supporting Workbecnh HD but that will come.
-
You will need to use the Workbench USB interface device (the dongle) to use the original Workbench product. It was not included with the purchase of pre-JTV Variax guitars. And the original Workbench product was not updated to recognize the POD HD500X as an interface device. The dongle is actually what you are purchasing when you purchase the original Workbench. The software itself can be downloaded by anyone but you need the dongle to make the software recognize the guitar. If you can find a used one that should work. EDIT: Or you could swap your HD500X for an HD500. That was the last of the POD HD models that is recognized by the original Workbench as an interface device. The X series of POD HD500/Pro are not recognized.

Assigning a footswitch to control the on/off state of the FX is a separate action from actually using the footswitch to turn it on/off. If you assign the footswitch while the FX is in the off state (no light) it remains in the off state. A subsequent tap of the footswitch, or a click in the software on the power button of the FX (above and to the left of the icon) will turn theFX on.

Yes, stability of the USB connection. I don't think it matters whether or not you remove existing Line 6 stuff. I'm not aware of any difference between Windows versions in this respect. It's more things like USB conflicts and incompatible chipsets, and those are entirely unpredictable and unique to the given system.

The most common general issue is simply not following the instructions, especially the need to restore the factory settings and presets. You cannot retain your presets during this update. You MUST save them in advance and reload them after the upgrade is complete. And you have to save them with the old app/editor and reload them with the new one. The procedure is actually pretty simple: - backup your custom setlists using the old app - download and install the new app/editor, including the latest version of Line 6 Updater and the driver - run Line 6 Updater to install the new firmware. Wait for the automatic restart and preset rebuilding to complete. - restart while holding down knobs 9&10 (5&6 on the Rack). THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL. - reload your saved setlists with the new app/editor. The other issues I have seen are, I believe, mostly unique to certain individuals and/or their computer environments. EDIT: Having said that, it's still never a good idea to update any device firmware immediately prior to a gig.

Switching patches (or triggering a loop) while chord rings out?
silverhead replied to Alex_SF's topic in POD HD
Yeah - that won't work in a dual path preset because 7 of the 8 available FX blocks in a preset are being used for your acoustic. Virtually nothing left for your distorted rhythm patch. -
Switching patches (or triggering a loop) while chord rings out?
silverhead replied to Alex_SF's topic in POD HD
There is no FX spillover when switching patches. That pretty much defeats your suggested option #1. You option #2 could work but since the HD Pro doesn't retain loops when powering off you will have to record the power swell loop in advance during the same session. If you do it immediately before the song you will need to mute your guitar channel or the audience will hear it. And you will have to switch from the acoustic to the distorted rhythm patch after the desired acoustic chord ring duration has ended. If your power chord swell is the same tone (or differs by an FX or two that you can switch on/off) as your distorted rhythm patch you could experiment with another option. Try using a dual-path preset that has very simple acoustic processing in one path, leaving a sufficient number of FX blocks for the swell / distorted rhythm path. In that case your acoustic chord will ring out while you switch paths within the same preset. You can assign a footswitch to arrange for the path switch. How are you handling the different guitars required - acoustic and electric. Variax? -
It's a few isolated incidents. I would upgrade immediately. No the tuner won't come on when the vol pedal is heel down. You have to tap/hold the tuner switch.
-
You can. There are two things that can't be changed in Snapshots: - the set of amps and FX. All amps and FX appear in all snapshots within a preset. If you want a different set of amps and FX you need to use a different preset. - there is a limit of 64 changeable parameters per snapshot. Note that this design allows plenty of flexibility. You can assign amps and FX in both paths to the DSP limit of the device, then turn each one on/off as desired in the individual snapshots. And 64 parameters is an awful lot!!
