  1. Top reason for 500 over both 300/400: - flexible FX assignment. In both 300/400 you are constrained to only 1 selection from each of the FX1/2/3 slots. That means, for instance, only one of compressor, distortion, overdrive, or EQ FX in any preset. .... And there are several other good reasons.... Best bang for the buck in my opinion. If you can get a used HD500x for a similar price as a used HD500, go for the x. Top reasons for 400 over 300: - more convenient preset switching using foot switches - FX loop .... But both may leave you wishing you had spent the extra $$ PROVIDED THAT you are willing to spend some time to learn the extra complexity of the 500/x over the 300/400.
  2. I am speaking about the HD500 connected directly, via L6 LINK, to the Stagesource speaker. You mention hooking up the stagescape; if you mean the M20d Stagescape mixer being connected to the Stagesource via L6 LINK, with the HD500 connected via analog outputs to the Stagescape mixer inputs, then that's a different story. If that's your setup, I can't explain why the Stagesource speaker mode would be changing because the HD500 mode parameter is not passed to/through the M20d via the analog input. This mode parameter is only passed via L6 LINK directly from the HD500 to the Stagesource speaker.
  3. I'm about 99% certain that the USB Dropout issue was ONLY with the X3 Live devices. It was not a general issue with X3 Bean or Pro models. There may be isolated, independent USB issues with these models but they won't be covered under the lifetime warranty that exists for the X3 Live issue.
  4. Good info. I hadn't heard that. Thanks for the post.
  5. The latest Pod HD firmware includes a somewhat hidden capability to store Stagesource speaker mode in the HD500 preset/patch. However, the only way to set the speaker mode is by saving the HD500 preset; the current speaker mode at that instant is saved with the preset, and hence recalled when the preset is selected again later. The thing is..... the default setting for this parameter, in all presets, is Electric Guitar. So unless you manually save the HD500 preset when the Stagesource speaker is in a different mode setting (e.g. Reference) then every time you recall the preset the setting will be reset to Electric Guitar. Unfortunately there is no global setting for this; you need to manually save every preset that you want associated with Reference mode.
  6. Can't be done on iPad with the Floor Pod Plus. The first device for Pod-based tone editing on iPad is the new Amplifi product.
  7. I'm certainly not trying to be an apologist here. You seemed to be extrapolating form the service guy's comments, and reading into it that Line 6 does not ever intend to fix this. That may be, and you're certainly entitled to that interpretation. I was only offering another interpretation - namely that he's not trying to dance on the grave of anything; he simply really doesn't know. That's all he said. You can read into that whatever you want. .
  8. The support guy's statement was very clear and accurate: he is not aware. That's all. And that's very consistent with Line 6 policy, even internally. I wouldn't put any additional import into his response; he simply would not know if this fix were being released tomorrow. (That's not to say it will be....).
  9. Personally I don't see it as a replacement, primarily because it's X3 vs. HD technology. Apples to oranges from the outset.
  10. According to the specs posted on this website they both weigh 57.5 lbs. Seems odd to me because the L3t includes the side panel mixer while the L3m does not. Presumably it weighs something, but apparently not enough to make a difference.
  11. You can use Workbench HD to individually adjust string volumes. Many people have reported that these particular strings seem to have a lower volume from the factory. The Workbench adjustment resolves this.
  12. Please do. Here's where to report an issue: http://line6.ideascale.com/
  13. What device are you planning to use the Metal Pack with? Is your device registered? Which link/check box are you talking about - the one agreeing to the terms/conditions, or one that would point you to the Metal Pack download? Please describe the sequence of steps/webpages that you are seeing. What computer/device and web browser are you using? Is there a problem with being able to use your state/province, or did you mean to say you can't use it? I understand your frustration, but it's not helpful in trying to resolve your problem.
  14. If you are interested in trying to resolve whatever the problem is, and achieve a successful firmware update, please describe exactly your setup, computer system, the update procedure you are following, and where/how it is failing along with any error message displayed.
  15. Oops........ My bad. Sorry for the misinformation. Thanks for the correction hurghanico.
  16. The Up/Down footswitches work differently depending on your global FS Mode setting. In FS Mode = ABCD the switches move you up or down one bank at a time, and the A through D switches select the preset within the current bank. In FS Mode = FS5-8 the switches move you up or down one preset at a time, not one bank at a time.
  17. Yes, as long as they are plugged in to the power outlet and connected to the HD500 outputs. Your PC no longer plays any role in this setup unless you also want to use HD500 Edit.
  18. I think you can select 'None' as the Reverb model. That should turn the Reverb off and permit a stereo signal to come through.
  19. You don't need an FX Loop on your amp. Hardware: Connect your guitar to the HD500 Guitar Input. Connect the FX SEND jack on the rear of the HD500 to the Input of your Boss looper. Connect the Output of your Boss looper to the FX Return jack of the HD500. Connect the HD500 L/MONO output to your amp input. HD500 Preset: Select Guitar as Input 1. Add the FX Loop (now your Boss looper) to your signal chain, at any position you like. Select the HD500 Output Mode to one of the Live Modes (not Studio/Direct); experiment with these Live modes and choose the one that sounds best to you. If you are using one of the HD500 amp models in your preset, be aware that you are using two amps: the HD500 model as well as your physical amp. In this situation, place all your amp's tone knobs, including Drive/Gain, to the neutral position. Use the HD500 amp settings instead.
  20. You already have it. It comes with your userid here. Go to Customtone (see link at top of this page). I notice that the Upload button at the top right of the home page isn't working right now; hopefully that's temporary. But once you select a product you will see an Upload Tone button just beneath the aforementioned Upload button. The Upload Tone button seems to work.
  21. Use the HD500x Edit program to create backups and restore presets and setlists.
  22. I believe the problem has been identified by phil_m in the OP's other thread: http://line6.com/support/topic/6103-anyone-with-an-hd400/ The OP's preset is using a mono Reverb FX after the FX Loop. The Reverb FX is doing the summing to mono.
  23. For the purpose of monitors for home recording I don't think there's any real disadvantage to not having XLRs unless you plan to use the HD500 XLR outputs to connect your monitors. In that case the disadvantage is the need for adapters or cables that are XLR one end and RCA/1/4" on the other. For 5" studio monitors I would base my decision more on comparisons of price, reliability, and customer reviews than whether or not it has XLR inputs. It's entirely up to you. You've already made a good choice by abandoning the idea of using your old computer speakers. You'll be happy with any of your candidates.
