Funny you should mention those monitors; they're the ones I've been using for recording for several years. They work well for me. Only one caution: because they are only 5" I managed to blow one by playing a bass guitar a bit loud while recording one day........... :( My bad, but still cost me some repair $$. That's why I recommend at LEAST 5" - preferably bigger. As for balanced and unbalanced, you really won't notice a difference with the short cable lengths involved in home studio recording. At live venues with cable lengths of 30' and more it can be an issue; balanced is better.

Conundrum With Stagesource Speakers
silverhead replied to federalhog's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Yes - that should work. You could experiment with connecting your amp DI Out to either the combined XLR/1/4" input or to the stereo RCA inputs (using an adapter) on the rear of the L3t. One or the other might work better given the amp's output signal level. You might also experiment with the L3t/m mode settings. Your acoustic guitar and mic might sound better in Reference mode, while your Laney amp DI Out might sound better with the L3 in Electric Guitar mode. You may need to compromise; let your ears be the judge. -
For home recording purposes I strongly recommend a pair of active (powered) studio monitors. Your old computer speakers will work but they will seriously colour the sound coming from the POD. That means after you have spent countless hours tweaking things so the sound from these little speakers is as good as it gets to your ears, you will then likely want to create a WAV or MP3 file and play your recording back on other devices like a home stereo system, your car stereo, your iOS device, ..... whatever. At that point you won't believe how bad it sounds, and how different from your recording environment. That's because studio monitors are designed to be Full Range, Flat Response (FRFR) speakers. This means that these monitors reproduce the incoming sound faithfully, adding as little EQ (sound colouration) as possible. Typical playback devices (like the things listed above as well as your computer speakers) are expecting to receive an FRFR-controlled signal as input. Each of these non-FRFR devices then applies their own specific EQ and perhaps other processing to the input. So playing back a non-FRFR-controlled input signal (the one you tweaked in your recording so that it sounded OK when played back through your computer speakers) through another EQ'ing device typically sounds like, well.... lollipop. Do yourself a favour and get studio monitors, at least 5" cone and preferably larger, limited by your budget. If you don't want to do this (at least not now) then understand that your recording will not likely sound good when played on any other equipment.

Where Is The Official "non-user" Forum?
silverhead replied to gunpointmetal's topic in Line 6 Lounge
Would users be expected to participate in this official non-users forum? If so, what's the difference between that and this? If not, who would participate? -
It could be a power supply problem. Can you try a different PSU? Make sure it matches these specs exactly: https://www.globalfulfillment.net/gfsnet/line6/10Expand.aspx?ProductCode=98-030-0042-05

Here's a preset designed for that purpose: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/217206

Since you have every setlist except this one, here's what you can do: - use HD500 Edit to save your existing setlists and presets to your computer. - use Line 6 Monkey to reinstall the latest HD500 firmware. When prompted, choose to replace existing presets - use HD500 Edit again to save all the factory presets for the latest firmware (so that you don't have this problem again) - use HD500 Edit to reload any presets/setlists you saved in step #1 - use HD500 Edit to SEND the restored setlists/presets to your HD500 device (.... or you could wait and hope someone sends you what you want......)

Buzzing Thru Headphones When Not Connected Thru Usb
silverhead replied to Machonacho's topic in POD HD
Have you confirmed that the noise is not being produced by your guitar, the cable, or your headphones? Just trying to eliminate variables to narrow the problem down........ -
1) The simplest way is to place your Boss looper in the FX loop of the HD500, then on a preset basis place the HD500 FX Loop where you want it in the signal chain. 2) in the signal flow view, select the Looper. Check the Playback Volume parameter; it may simply be set to zero.

Pod X3 Dying - Want To Still Run Pod Farm
silverhead replied to pumpernickle's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Your pod farm license is tied to your X3 device, unless you have purchased pod farm seperately. So you cannot use pod farm without the X3 connected unless you purchase another license. -
Yes, it is designed to be used sans computer. There is no computer-based editor; everything is done on the device. You also need to update the firmware using a midi connection, not usb. Also, the M13 is designed to be used like a set/series of standard stompboxes; it assumes that you have it connected to an amp. It has a true bypass The M-series FX in the HD500, on the other hand, are bundled into a device that also includes amp modeling. It's Input and Output options, along with the fact that there is no true bypass, can lead to some unexpected behaviours when using it solely for the M-series FX. The M13 is definitely more 'plug and play' than the HD500 if you don't want to use the amp modeling.

Hd500x Any Way To Make It Start With Tuner On Power Up?
silverhead replied to The1Slap's topic in POD HD
Yes. (As in, yes - I know it's not possible.) You lead a charmed life if that 'sucks'. -
There is going to be a slight latency (a few ms) when switching presets. This is unavoidable - the device needs to reload data (the new preset) into it's working memory and this process takes at least a small amount of time. In most cases it's not a problem but in some situations you may need to adjust your playing so that the latency is not noticeable. For instance, create a slight pause in your playing while switching presets.

You're welcome. I'm sure you'll note that there is also an M9 model that has 3 FX slots rather than 4. It may sound like you're not giving up much to go with the less costly M9 but be aware that the M13 also has an FX Loop while the M9 does not, which means you can use the M13 via 4CM with the HD500 to achieve full flexibility in placing your M13 FX pre- or post-amp.
-
Correct.
-
Yes, build quality and reliability is good imho. Yes you can have 12 FX in a given configuration/preset, but you can only have one active at a time in each of the 4 FX slots. So 4 active simultaneously.

Using the HD500 Looper in a live setting is cumbersome due to the number of footstomps required to engage/disengage the looper while switching patches for different tones. For instance, a common situation is to lay down a chord sequence for the verse portion of a song to be used as a backing track when the lead solo, using a different preset, comes along, then segue smoothly back into playing a verse or bridge live. Laying down the original loop is no problem - you engage Looper mode, then use the footswitches to start and stop recording the loop. At that point you probably aren't at the point in the song for your lead solo so you stop the loop playback. Now when the solo comes along you need to almost simultaneously start the loop playback while also switching presets for the solo. Some fancy footwork is required to achieve that and maintain tempo. If you manage that successfully, you still have to disengage the loop playback when the solo ends and also switch presets back to the original - also while maintaining tempo. Try it. It requires both careful planning to start/stop recording your loop at the 'right' instants (which may not be on the beat if you want to allow time for patch switching) and also some extremely fast and accurate footwork in the stomp sequences. I haven't been able to master it while keeping my playing tempo.

You may have Tone 2 Locked. Check the main signal flow display page. There is a padlock icon in the bottom row; turn the little knob beneath it until the icon shows unlocked.

Disable Live Input Monitoring?
silverhead replied to AllenAchterberg's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
You will find the slider in the Line 6 Audio-MIDI control panel item, in the Recording tab. -
Good thought, toneman2121. Symptoms of this sort often indicate a problem with the power supply. @jkuijpers: Is there somewhere you can get your hands on a PSU that matches these specs exactly? https://www.globalfulfillment.net/gfsnet/line6/10Expand.aspx?ProductCode=98-030-0042-05 If it is a PSU problem the X3L may come back to life immediately. If not I would power up in Safe Mode as above and try reinstalling the firmware again.

Come Back To Us, Prodigal Company. An Open Letter.
silverhead replied to scheater5's topic in Line 6 Lounge
You need to ask Line 6 that question. All of us received unsolicited invitations to wear the Expert tag. None of us were provided with a specific list of criteria that we had met. In my opinion it has mostly to do with our product knowledge, communication style, and generally helpful attitude. We volunteer a lot of time here in the forums. But we're only human; when insulted we sometimes respond in kind - but we try hard not to. And as just demonstrated, we can feel insulted even when it was apparently unintentional. The black and white of text can easily result in miscommunication. Thank you for editing your post.
