  1. Sure. Set up a dual tone patch. Use Tone 1 for guitar and Tone 2 for Mic. Each Tone is processed independently - add whatever amp/FX you wish in each Tone. In the Outputs page you can pan them as desired.
  2. That's odd. The description of the Variax power supply in the store says it is compatible with the JTV guitars as well. It doesn't matter for John's purposes, but if there's an error in the published info we should look into it.
  3. Sounds to me like the power supplies are the same. This is based on the following descriptions in the Line 6 Store (see link at top of page) https://www.globalfulfillment.net/gfsnet/line6/10Expand.aspx?ProductCode=98-034-0105 https://www.globalfulfillment.net/gfsnet/line6/10Expand.aspx?ProductCode=98-030-0042-05 The PSU that comes with the Variax is a PX-2g 9V AC, same as the X3.
  4. Here's the best way to post your new features ideas so that Line 6 product developers will see them: http://line6.com/support/forum-18/announcement-7-post-your-product-ideas-at-line6ideascalecom/
  5. Sorry - I hadn't checked. Thanks for the correction. Don't know why it was updated - maybe just for the name change.
  6. I wouldn't waste time with the conversion utility for this purpose. I doubt that it has been updated to convert from HD500 to HD500x because it would be wasted effort - there is no need. The HD500 presets will open in HD500x Edit without any raw data conversion required, by the steps described above.
  7. The HD500 presets can be loaded directly into HD500x Edit by drag/dropping the preset file from your computer folder into any preset slot in HD500x Edit. No need to change filename extensions. Note that this works only for individual presets; you can't drag/drop setlists or bundles. For those you will need to change filenames. If you don't see the changed filenames in the HD500x Edit OPEN dialogue, change the file viewing filter in the dialogue box to 'View Files of Type: All Files".
  8. Yes you can do this. Here is a similar preset designed for acoustic guitar and mic: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/215659 You will need to edit the above preset to: - adjust the Inputs (change Mic to Aux) - adjust the amp/FX processing in each channel as desired - use the HD500x Mixer to pan the channels fully left and right, and - route the appropriate L/R channel outputs of the HD500x to your outboard equipment.
  9. I connect my HD500 to my L3t speakers using either L6 Link, or using the Line In inputs on the back panel. I do not connect directly to the onboard mixer of the L3t because it expects mic or acoustic guitar level inputs, not the Line Level inputs that the HD500 outputs deliver in Studio mode (which is what you want when connecting directly to the L3t PA speakers).
  10. Yes - you will download it through Monkey. It is installed as part of the device driver.
  11. Next week? Sure - might as well get that totally unfounded rumour going. Now that JTV 2.0 is out, what other reason could there be for checking the Downloads page twice a day? I hope to see lots of people posting to express their disappointment that we don't have the phantom update already, culminating in a threatened lawsuit for not living up to unannounced promises. Let the usual games begin!
  12. I think those are great personal observations. You don't say whether you plan to use v1.9 or v2.0 going forward, but your observations certainly illustrate that the move from 1.9 to 2.0 requires a commitment to tweak existing presets (either HD500 or JTV) in order to 'get back to par'. What I think it boils down to is this: if you're happy with par and want to remain there, then stay at 1.9 and continue to use your existing HD500 presets. When I say 'you' here and in the following I mean the general You, not you specifically anonyrat. However, if you want to take advantage of the new HD modeling (now being applied to guitars as it was earlier to amps) then you will need to adjust to the new modeling. By 'take advantage' I am not referring to the new stock models in v2.0. I am referring to the new DSP engine - most notably the increased dynamics of the HD modeling. There is ,imho, much more realistic sensitivity of the guitar models to aggressive strumming and picking, and more realistic behaviour of the Tone control knob at the upper end, not to mention the enhancements of Workbench HD. I think most people would agree that the playing dynamics are improved - you can really hear the amp responding much better now to the 'digging in' when you are playing. But if your goal is to reproduce exactly the same v1.9 tones, using the same HD500 presets..... well, then, you don't need or want v2.0. How lucky! You avoid any need for upgrading and tweaking. On the other hand, you compromise on playing dynamics. There is no right or wrong choice here; to each their own.
  13. Ah, yes - expecting your own recordings to sound like youtube..... There are SO MANY things, other than your device and its settings, that go into youtube recordings and playbacks. It is almost impossible to reproduce everything exactly, and its unrealistic to expect identical sound. The real question for you is: is your recorded sound similar to the sound you hear when monitoring your sound in your DAW before recording it, and when playing live (without recording)? If the answer is yes, then there's nothing wrong with your recording. If you don't like the sound you hear (live and/or recorded), then the issue is with your equipment and its settings, not with your recording. You simply need to spend the time required to learn your equipment, its capabilities, and the settings that sound good to you personally. If you have experience with such things then it shouldn't take long to get good sounds from the UX1 and Pod Farm. If you need more experience - then keep working at it.
  14. When you say that the allen key doesn't work - what exactly do you mean? Are you sure you are using the right size key?
  15. I'm using the Quote button to indicate that I am answering this specific comment in your specific post...... Have you opened a support ticket with Line 6? What is the status of that?

The Input Pad is a physical switch on the top surface of the HD500. It's meant to attenuate the input signal from a guitar with hot pickups. Try shifting the switch Up to the PAD position.
  17. I'm not sure what you mean by this. The HD500/Pro tuner is chromatic. Leave it calibrated at standard tuning A=440 and plug in your bass. Does the tuner not recognize the octave-lower notes? I think it should, allowing you to tune normally.
  18. What are your requirements? How do you plan to use it? Budget? Max. loop duration? Overdubbing? Need stored loops? How many? Midi control? ... etc ....... Maybe do some basic product research to identify a few qualifying candidates, then request opinions on the best of those?
  19. Yes - you can update JTV firmware using the HD500 and Monkey. You cannot (yet) use the HD500 with HD Workbench.
  20. Are you saying that it sounds better to you when listened to live? I'm not a metal fan so I'm not a good judge of whether this recording sounds good or bad. Sorry I can't help - perhaps someone with a good ear for metal can assess the sound quality. Offhand I don't see anything obviously wrong with your setup; on the other hand my knowledge in this area is general - I own and use several audio interfaces and DAWs, but not the UX1 or Cubase. Good luck working things out.
  21. Note that Variax models created in pre-HD firmware/Workbench are not compatible with the new HD firmware/Workbench. Your previous custom models will need to be recreated in Workbench HD.
  22. As long as the deal is so good that you are prepared to kiss the $$ goodbye.... go for it! ;)
  23. The Pod HD (desktop/bean model) is the same physical size as the Pod xt and Pod X3 bean models. All use the same physical chassis.
  24. I know this may seem a bit simplistic, but as I understand things the POD HD Full amp models are generally used in Studio output mode, and the Pre amp models give best results when used in one of the Live output modes. As I understand it the essential difference in Full and Pre amp models is that the Pre amp models do not include any power amp emulation while the Full amp models do. Hence, using a Full amp model with a Live output mode necessarily adds power amp emulation, which then is routed into a real power amp. Here's a snip from the Pod HD500 Advanced Guide on this point: TIP: When using the Combo or Stack options and connecting into a tube amplifier, we also recommend that you choose a Preamp Model from the Amp Model menu (rather than one of the “Full†Amp Models). HD Preamp Models include no power amp emulation, making them typically better suited for this connection. That said, there is no wrong choice! PODs have always been about flexibility... Check out all the possibilities and decide which Models work best for your tone!

    Hiwatt Fizz?

You could try turning down the Master volume in the amp Edit pages (not the HD channel volume or device master volume).
