  1. The ESN of 00000000000 is a bad sign - was this a recent buy or have you had it serviced at all? -B
  2. You hit the tuner button then use the knob to scroll to the last page (can't remember but I think its the left one not the tweak - 50% chance) :) It looks like something in WinXP is not allowing a restore point (guessing as I've never had this issue). I did a quick search of the ole www and this issue does crop up for usb and hardware issues but lets see if some of our guys have any other ideas first. Thanks for the vid it helped. Bill
  3. I had a similar issue with a used XTPro. Gearbox would not engage/change the delay usless I changed to another effect, say like the mod, tuner wouldn't pick up notes. Generally screwy and the final fix....... I fired up the ole L6 Monkey and reflashed the unit. It looked like something in the firmware got partially screwed and needed to be reset. Do as suggested above to eliminate dirty pots (and also pot jitter from vibrations can cause random changes) prior to considering reflashing. -B
  4. Alright then it must be an issue with XP finding the driver. Use a usb cable not the midi/usb adaptor if thats what you were using before - do not use a hub btw. You will have to try manually selecting which driver windows will use. First with XT not connected - find where you installed the L6 drivers so the next step you can go to the folder (IE: c:\p-files\line6\drivers\xt -> something like that). Plug the XT in and when the winxp hw-wizard fires up you are going to try the "select from folder" (I think thats the option). Point the hw-wizard at the folder you previously found. Hopefully that will do the trick - if it fails try uninstalling the drivers, reboot then try once more. This looks like a system issue rather than an XT one at this point. -B
  5. Thanks for tip my man! Slowly, I am coming around to going this route the recording I attempt. -B
  6. Ahhhh Ok well it is being seen in some shape or form. Triryche is right in pointing out that there was an old firmware that needs to be updated to enable the usb functionality (good spot btw). IIRC (don't have one here) use the tuner button, scroll down to the last page and see the flash version. -B
  7. Does the XT show up in the Device Manager? The ole "unknown device"? -B
  8. Ah... so when you connect the XT via usb and when it tries to install the drivers it throws the msg? Are you logged in as the admin not a user account? -B
  9. Yep indeed there is a way to try. Enter Safe Mode and reflash. Spaceatl goes through the steps here: http://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/53467 You need to reflash it...with success... You can bring the HD400 up in safe mode the same way you do for a reset... Power up holding A. connect the USB cable start the monkey and try to flash it. If it isn't coming up correctly in the Monkey, kick off the driver install from Monkey, unplug the HD400 USB and follow the driver install prompts...Once the driver is in, you should be able to flash...I would suggest that you avoid installing the driver again in the all in one installs of Edit and Monkey.... The HD300 should be the same. Hope you get it going and welcome to the forums! Bill
  10. I know you are going to love this answer - there is no wrong way "if" it sounds good to you. For going into the front of a combo I will go between s-direct and combo/stack. The flatter the amp, usually a SS, the better response I hear out of s-direct using the line in of the fx loop. Its a toss up with going in the front - combo/stack tends to limit the cab modeling (to me) where I hear more going s-direct. You are on the right path too utilizing the EQs to fine tune - you may find that you will start to do that per different type of amp unless you go to a Flat Range / Flat Response (FRFR) one. -B
  11. Its tough to "really" say but you can probably bet that the 2012 is the same internally as the 2014. The knob twisting the salesdude was referring to is a common way of "sweeping" (for lack of a better term) any dust that may have collected on the pots (encoder?) which can cause the effects jumping/settings change. But who can really say if there is not another issue? I would ask about the return policy or warrenty (if any). Do a bunch of all lefts all rights on the knobs and put the amp through its paces. -B
  12. There is probably a speaker factor going on too. I find my preference to vary depending on monitors, amps or headphones (even guitar). I guess the bottom line is "it's all good" :) -B
  13. Yeah! Glad to hear its back working Tormod. Gratulerer :) -B
  14. Well if you know that the unit worked prior to you getting it - I would try a different power supply. Be sure to try the headphones too. Let us know what happens. -B
  15. That was a fun diversion :) HD for the cleans (seemed to have the most definition) and even the mid gain stuff was nicely represented, but Zoom for the higher gain - the G5 has that tone of the G9/G7 which I am familiar with (it sounded like the tube boost was goosed too). I found the TL as I remembered it - solid over all but not a standout (the plexi was nice though IMO). Boss was Boss sounding not bad at all just seemed like it needed some dynamics (spice? sparkle?). Headphones and panning between units would be a good way to vet them but in the end its up to your ear. Thanks for sharing. -B
  16. IIRC the Spider IV 150w combo should have an external speaker jack - which yes could be used to drive the cab (should mute the 2x12). I would check the documentation for the amp prior to though. Just to be safe on the ohms required, 4 or 8 depending on how the cab is wired. Should be loud :) -B
  17. Hmmmm hey man, Let me preface this by I don't have a Spider IV but if you do - fire up the Spider Editor and see what options are there. There should be options for assigns for the exp pedal. -B
  18. Should be do-able in some shape or form. <edit> forgot to add -> depending on the unit and downloaded tones. -B
  19. Haa haaa! Good One Radatats! L6 Monkey V0.5 with a Variax prototype! That would make for a good caption contest. "Firmware? We don't need no stinkin' firmware!" -B
  20. The "string emulator" sounds fizzy to me. :) -B
  21. We've all had our moments of dancing but when I went through this article I could only sit slack jawed (and contrary to rumour - that is not my usual expression) :) http://www.guitarplayer.com/accessories/1019/five-top-guitarists-with-massive-pedalboards/49110 Good to see L6 gets some stomping on those. -Bill
  22. When I was looking around for Exp pedals the idea of a fixed on/off was on my mind. The idea was for a cocked wah during a few tunes where it could give a nice freq band. I had looked at the stuff here: http://www.nosepedal.com/store/nose-expression-stomp-switch Being conservative (not lazy mind you) :) I got shiney keyed away from following through. Thought I would toss it up here. -B
  23. Hey Brazzster, Wasn't this considered part of the modeling for certain amps? Hope it going good! Bill
  24. Well the Flextone series are great amps but if the reset doesn't solve it a service trip looks likely. The scratchy pot usually can be fixed with some DeOxit and knob turning. The other problem is the biggie - transformer? PCB? I can't remember if there is a fuse in there but there could be. Worth? Hmmmm.... only you can decide that one. Usually its ~ $75 to have it opened up. -B
