Unable to download JTV Firmware
psarkissian replied to sidsimo's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Vista has been something of a pain in general to everyone regarding everything. I don't know anyone who actually likes it. Just a few who tolerated it til they got something else. Odd,... Vista shows up in my downloads page pull-down menu. Strange. As far as your typing goes, I know what you mean,... I used to crew for the band Iron Butterfly during the mid to late 70's. Was a tea tootler then too, even though some of my pals weren't. -
Unable to download JTV Firmware

"... got through to L6 support. they claimed to have had server issues"--- Yes, IT department was doing some work over the weekend. Sorry if it caused any problems. sidsimo,... the 59,... log a ticket in your account. They will come to me and I will make a recommendation to the custom support people. Roll-backs or updates are do'able with JTV's. I can deal with it. barkeywayne,... yeah, it's a matter of taste. I'm more of a Gibson than Fender kind of guy, so v2.21 is good for me. v1.90 or v2.21 for Chime,... either is fine, but then I have a '66 Ricki 370-12 (custom rebuild I did back in 1979), so I have something to compare to it with. 2.21 is fine, but yeah, v1.90 has a good Chime model,... I like 'em both. -
Unable to download JTV Firmware

"Have re remembered to put a 1/4 jack in as well as the Ethernet to power the guitar?"--- With the JTV battery in it to keep USB line from sagging during a download. "How about downloading the JTV Flash Memory to your Windoze machine, then use Line 6 Monkey app to do the update with the local file"--- Yes, download to your desktop and update from there. I do that all the time myself. Use the VDI Interface Device, don't use any USB hubs, don't go thru effect units,... it wants a straight path. -
Workbench doesn't see JTV-59
psarkissian replied to Bangha's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
If there is a sag in the USB line during updates and such. Need to keep the USB 5-Volt line from sagging during updates. Some batteries run down quick. The 1/4" jack battery engagement on the JTV helps, but the battery should be at 4-LED full charge first. -
"van damme 268-610-000 smart control DMX512 GRADE"--- according to the spec sheet, it should be okay, it's 110-Ohm as it should be. bjnette,... yes, the room will be a consideration.

Drop-outs occur. For more info about cables, check out the Knowledge Base here. I recently had a couple of lengthy chats about this stuff with my colleague Steve Lampen at the AES Convention in LA, earlier this month, where he gave a very informative talk on this subject. Steve is the King of Cables at Beldin Cable Co. I make a point of reviewing this stuff with him at every chance when he's in town,... and sometimes online. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/general-faq/audio-cables-101-r226 Wire, Cable, and Fiber Optics for Video & Audio Engineers by Stephen H. Lampen (Aug 1, 1997) http://www.amazon.co...35303440&sr=1-2 Audio/Video Cable Installer's Pocket Guide (Pocket Reference) by Stephen H. Lampen (Jan 15, 2002) http://www.amazon.co...94&sr=1-2-fkmr1 Mic cables and Line 6 Link both use 3-pin XLR connectors,... but they are very different cables with different impedances, because of the different applications. Drop outs are common when using the incorrect cable, actual damage is rare,... so far.

Workbench doesn't see JTV-59
psarkissian replied to Bangha's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
See my prior post. If your iMac is a laptop, use the wall adapter, not battery. Hook it all up first, then open Workbench. -
Variax And Wireless
psarkissian replied to BluesPlayer76's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Best use the VDI cables with the Canon shells on the ends. Regular CAT5 can be loose, and loose can cause spikes and intermittencies. They come in 25ft lengths. Going past 30ft and impedance becomes a problem. Need a tight contact and the right impedance. -
Are you using the 110-Ohm Line 6 Link cable, or regular 50-Ohm mic cable? What is printed on the cable insulation?

JTV Model Updates Since 2011?
psarkissian replied to mbrendzel's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
It's up to v2.21 Flash now, is the latest from 2015 found in the Line 6 Support Downloads page. http://line6.com/software/index.html -
jtv alt tuning warble (with audio example)
psarkissian replied to fr0sty's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Two reasons for "warbling",... --- Pick-ups are not at correct distance from the strings, allowing the pick-up magnets to pull on the strings while it's vibrating. More apparent in Alt Tune. --- Dual tone effect, when you hear the standard tune string acoustically and the Alt Tuned electronic signal, both simultaneously. The mp3 sounds more like pick-up magnets pulling, in the case.- 31 replies

Since that label you mentioned is at the AC receptacle,... it looks like that you are referring to the AC draw from the wall socket. That label is specifying "power requirements" from the AC Mains from the wall. It's not the audio output specification, it's the AC mains spec, it allows a max of 600W from the wall.

Anyone lowered the action on their Jtv69s?
psarkissian replied to Gkf9's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
It was set-up to Line 6 specs for the factory 10-gauge. Changing gauges, changes the string tension, which changes the set-up. It probably needs to be adjusted and dialed-in for the 9-gauge set. Ultra-lights will go out-of-tune more often, and a floating bridge makes it more so. Bare that in mind. -
Anyone lowered the action on their Jtv69s?
psarkissian replied to Gkf9's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
"The JTV's all come with 10's on them...I'm gonna guess that the Std does too"--- Yes. "If you're used to 9's, then that it likely your problem"--- Yes. Changing gauges, you should have the set-up checked and if needed, adjusted. "Seems a little high down at the bridge end.Not sure how to lower it on this model?"--- On a JTV-69, it can be adjusted at the bridge posts and/or, if needed, at the individually. Pick-up distance to strings is important, as magnets pulling on the strings can induce "warbling" of the strings which get picked-up and amplified while in Model mode. For a proper set-up to specs, it should be taken to your local Line 6 authorized guitar tech. For Gkf9,... that would be the prior mentioned E & M Electronics or Mark Wright Music. -
Spider IV 150hd Cab Cables and Cat6?
psarkissian replied to Exsomos's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
Speaker cables for the speaker outs. There have been a couple users who used guitar/instrument cables for everything and messed it all up for themselves. 18 to 14 gauge stranded cable for speakers. CAT5 or CAT6 for the FBV connect,.... use CAT5. CAT6 is a different impedance and will create performance problems, as confirm by a recent customer who brought in a Shortboard recently and was using CAT6. And further confirmed by a colleague from Beldin Cable a week ago at the AES convention in LA. And he writes books on the subject. Check the Line 6 Knowledge Base on this further,... http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/fbv-mki-mkii-controllers/fbvshortboardexpressfbv2-mk-i-and-ii-fbv-3-r506 http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/general-faq/audio-cables-101-r226 http://www.amazon.co...35303440&sr=1-2 http://www.amazon.co...94&sr=1-2-fkmr1 ... Steve is the guy I go to when I want to know more than I already know about cables. Don't use CAT6 for connecting FBV products. -
Gkf9,... try this link, http://line6.com/find/service_center/ There's E & M Electronics in Milton Keyes, and Mark Wright Music in Northampton. Mark Wright used to be a repair tech at Line 6 in Rugby, back when we had a location there. He knows most all the gear pretty well, including and especially the guitars. In the mid 1990's, the average repair cost was $55-60 USD per hour plus parts. Considering that, that was 20-years ago,... $90/hr being the going rate isn't that bad for an out-of-warranty repair.
-
There's a ground that's lifting or floating somewhere, the clock signal is demodulating into the audio band. It will need servicing by an authorized service center, since they would know the product.

"I thought this output is an either or thing. Either L6 Link or AES/EBU"--- It uses AES/EBU 110-Ohm cable for the Line 6 Link, which is to AES/EBU standard circuit type,... and not XLR 50-Ohm mic cable.
