  1. Workbench HD for JTV guitars with Flash v2.00 or higher.
  2. Roland Orzabal of Tears For Fears also has a pair of DT50-212's and has them both on stage with hims when he plays. Roland and Steve's DT50 amps,.... had the honor and pleasure of servicing all four amps.
  3. Carefully pull up the knob and make certain the retainer nut on that pot is snug. If that doesn't fix, then it will need servicing by a Line 6 authorized service center.
  4. https://line6.com/find/service_center/ Check with them to see who can do a guitar. If they need to consult with me, they have an email channel for that.
  5. Log a ticket. Something is odd there. I'll check with them on this.
  6. " ... however it is using an encoder instead of a pot for the selection of models, the same encoder mounted on the JTV-69, right? "--- the encoder part itself alone,... yes. The encoder full assembly (50-02-0090),... no, not interchangeable with older Variax.
  7. 300 and 600 use a different and earlier encoder than the ones used in this newer generation of guitars. The 500 and 700 the only two models to use the pot, and so may need calibration every now and then. Current encoders used are probably available on Full Compass, not certain if the earlier ones are still available.
  8. No. The posting of the Knowledge Base is correct for the 500 and 700. Newer JTV, Standard and Shuriken are different.
  9. Old Variax used a pot instead of an encoder, hence the need for calibration an that. Not relevant with JTV, Standard and Shuriken since they use encoders, and so no calibration needed.
  10. All Variax electrics ship with 10 gauge, D'Addario XL-110 strings.
  11. "It also looks like you can get that encoder with BINARY, BCD, or GRAY encoding. Not sure which the JTV is expecting. "--- Don't go there. Each guitar board is programmed for the model type it goes into. Don't try anything custom. Use the correct part. @hurghanico, old Variax calibration doesn't apply, JTV is a different kind of cat, have to cuddle it under the chin differently. @Peacocke, see my mate Mark Wright at Mark Wright Music in Northampton. He was my counterpart at Line 6 UK when we had a location in Rugby. He still service Line6 gear and knows this stuff as well as I do.
  12. Either a cable or encoder issue, maybe even a mis-programmed board. Register the guitar, then log a support ticket in your account. I might have to look at this unit myself.
  13. " @psarkissian: could you please provide some insights, why resistance should be in the range of 6 to 8k Ohms? What could be the problems, if you chose to replace a PU with one with a resistance outside the window? Does it only effect mixing mag and piezo signal? "--- 1- (a)Impedance matching. This is an active circuit guitar and impedance has to be matched to the active circuit. (b) These aren't like passive circuit guitars where one can mix and match resistors and capacitors, and experiment with component values. These are fixed active circuits. (c) Geeks like me know how to deal with that, and I know the circuitry very intimately. (d) There are service and warranty implications for modifications. 2- Check out Richie Castellano on the Variax Facebook page, he'll tell you, he's seen what happens when you go outside the impedance range. Impedance is function of frequency. Go outside the range and you will get tone color EQ's you might not like. Stick to the wiring diagrams in the Knowledge Base, and the DC/bulk resistance range on the pick-ups.
  14. Connector was probably cocked just enough to make intermittent contact. Sometimes it can look like it's in and lock when it isn't as fully inserted as it looks. I see that every now and then. Fortunately, it not a common thing. Back on track, rock-n-roll!
  15. " Many, many, many times . . . too many to count, I've been dissatisfied only to find out later it was because I could hear the sound of the actual guitar more than the modeled output. The audience, on the other hand, didn't hear any of the actual guitar. "---- Sounds like what is known as "dual tone effect". It's when you are hearing the sound coming off the guitar and the Model signal out of the amp, at the same time. The two sounds can (but not always) clash. EQ can help, floor monitors or a monitor amp close to you. Doesn't have to be loud, just enough to mediate or negate the effect.
  16. Yes. All too often, someone will go into one of these guitars, realize they got in too deep,... then it ends up on my bench. Best to save time and trouble and get it done by an experienced Line 6 authorized tech right off.
  17. All accounted for ball ends,... good. So at his point, sounds like set-up issue or some short pulling on the mag pick-up circuit. Don't mess with it, leave to a pro. These are not the passive electronics of our grandfather's guitars. It's a whole other cat, and you have to cuddle it under the chin in a different way.
