  1. Oh no, never mind. Sorry. Forgot, the Spider Valve and Spider Amps have different pot shaft mounts. Spider Valves are recessed. Don't do anything to it.
  2. Carefully lift off the knob and check the torque of the pot retainer nut underneath.
  3. I asked about the tubes because of how the Presence is tied into the circuitry. I asked about the power tube biasing for the same reason. Processor wants to see certain things from the amp section. So biasing the power tubes correctly is crucial.
  4. Yes, TRS at both ends is good. When running JTV off of its battery, tip= signal, ring= battery, sleeve= ground return. It's been the de facto standard since the mid 1970's for active circuit guitars. Custom stuff I used to do for myself and Iron Butterfly, when I crewed for them back in the 70's.
  5. Good. 5881WXT? Was it correctly biased? What pre-amp tubes are in there?
  6. Is it possible to update/reflash firmware? No. Any advice for troubleshooting it, or finding replacement boards? Nothing more than I've mentioned about what it could be, and no replacement boards for a few years now (being a ten year plus old product). And if there were any boards left, we don't sell direct to end users, since we don't support self repair of product. If there were any boards it would have to be had from a third party distributor. But there haven't been any for several years now,... all since used up.
  7. Software is on the Line 6 Downloads page. Use original Variax Workbench, and not Workbench HD.
  8. Register your product then log a support ticket, and they will inform you of your options. This one is not a self repair fixable problem. A Line 6 authorized service tech will have to get inside this one.
  9. First off, please keep your fingers out of the insides of these, shock hazard is too great, it hurts when you get zapped. When was the last time the tubes were changed out? What tubes are in there?
  10. 1- Are the news tubes Line 6 specified matched quartets for the power stage? 2- Are the power tubes correctly biased?
  11. If it's the capacitor I think it is, then it's damaged, and there are three to four other components damaged as well. With those, it would cost less to replace than to repair.
  12. Short, being a ten year plus old product it could be intermittent solder point(s), firmware glitch, or a combination of all three.
  13. Holiday weekend and all. But now that everyone is back, check your account.
  14. Send it in, best bet. We can better evaluate what's up with it, with what we have. And send the rest of the coffin hardware with it.
  15. Consulted the other tech here about the older guitars,... no hard reset on those 700 bass guitars.
  16. "There is no physical reason for the failure."--- Removing it from the coffin may have left it open to outside noise, not all the shielding is in place. -If the pots/encoder need calibrating Line 6 is the only one with the software tools to do such calibrations.

    HELIX HX

"That may be necessary for other Helix devices but - so my guess - not for the HX."--- Guessing with power supplies is not a good idea. Don't go there. Use the supply specified for the product. Don't risk voiding your warranty. Do not use substitutes, don't do that, don't go there.
  18. Yes cruisinon2, on the ball as usual,... and choice #2 would be the next one, since it shows up on a given fret and string. Action, a smidgeon of fret buzz more than likely, dial it in just a little more spot on. Didn't hear any whistling howls, so I wouldn't suspect tuning and intonation at this time.
  19. " No, it is no longer in the coffin."--- it's part of the problem right there. It doesn't connect to Monkey and it does the 3-blink,... not good. If the pot/encoder controls need calibrating, then that can only be done here at Line 6. Splice job on the connector to the lower right? Double not good. Clean splice job though. Looking like both a firmware problem's inability to deal with the hardware problem. And that's part of the problem with doing transplants. Not all transplants are created equal, they each have their quirks. Only our Variax Bass tech here at Line 6 would be able to evaluate this one.
  20. 1) Dual Tone Effect,... hearing the string in tune, signal from the amp in Alt Tune. 2) Set-Up issue. Set-ups are done at the distribution hub, then shipped across the country. But not all local retailers do set-ups at that last couple of miles. Action might be set such that there is a fret buzz on a string at a given fret, or similar set-up issue.
  21. Is it still in the coffin assembly? If not, there could be a grounding problem. Not showing up on Monkey for an update or re-Flash, could be computer OS or Monkey mis-match. Double check the downloads page on the Line 6 Support link. Make certain you are using a Variax Interface Device. Blinking 3 times,... if it's locked in a mode, or the encoder needs calibration, it will have to be sent to Line 6. Bear in mind, with this bass guitar in the picture,... Line 6 does not support modifications to its product on this level to this extent. It would require a support ticket and sent in for evaluation by the technician to see if it's fixable. Have to ascertain and confirm whether it's a hardware or software problem, and whether it's fixable. BTW, nice kitty cat.
  22. -Main thing with the pick-guard is being sure it all fits. Make certain that it's a Variax Standard pick-guard. -Turning on items in sequence rather than all at once, helps keep sudden current draws from pulling down any circuits. -2.23 is fine, the update is for the Shuriken SR250, and doesn't affect anything else. -Older POD's don't have L6 Link.
