Myself... it's just a preference. Not a big deal either way. For others... zombie finger, ghosting and dexterity issues can make them a big problem. Company's need to give the people what they want.... I understand that. I just hope they also consider the minority and don't make touch screens the only way to get around... like most smart phones.

You are not alone...

I'm not interested in the Nolly models... Not that it isn't good, it's simply not what I do.... I want to hear the Deluxe Reverb and the AC30... Please point me to those samples! I'm going to say this a 3rd time. I KNOW they do good work and I am CERTAIN this will be a great unit! I'm not arguing that, I just want to see an actual demo of the unit itself. I'm not sure why you decided to take this into a personal attack, but I don't appreciate it!

Since we only see photos at this time... it's hard to tell if they dealt with this through a "Performance View" like the Helix LT has. If the concept is completely missing.... that would be Strike 1 :)

Prior to the 2.8 update I could not get a live tone "I was happy with" with the stock cabs. With the addition of the TILT EQ I am now able to simulate the movement of the mic from CENTER to EDGE. I generally set it to "Dark 50" (give or take a little) and it's made all the difference for me. My latest round of presets are now primarily stock cabs.

You bought it at Amazon... I have to ask... is it a genuine Apple Adapter? The error you get when no device is connected is odd... that's why I am asking. Can you get the adapter to work with any other device? The Helix is suppose to be class compliant with Mac so it should work. BUT - I don't think IOS is officially supported by Line 6. I have a Helix... an iPad & a USB3 Camera Adapter. If I can find the time I will see if I can get the Helix working as an audio interface, but I'm not sure it will be for a few days.

I agree... a combined modeler/profiler would be intriguing. Th profiling standard has been set by Kemper... just how close to "that good" will it be? Mooer added a capture feature to their modeler... but every demo I saw of that (feature) was sadly, laughable! Get it right, success... get it wrong, what's the point!

That's not a demo of the Cortex. As I said in my earlier post... I do expect this to be a high quality option in the game... but this sample is a plugin, only proof that they do good work. I already know they make good plugins.

Schrodinger's cat.... We haven't even heard it yet? Until we do, it has a 50/50 chance of sounding good, or not! I am half joking... I do expect this to be a high quality and great sounding unit. I just find it funny how excited everyone is when all we have seen are a few specs, a few photos, and a few animations. IMO: Call me when the cake is actually baked so I can taste it. All I am seeing now is a recipe.

2 posts in and your telling a long time respected member to educate themselves :) Not to mention... HTML prefetching is exactly as he described in his post.... so I don't think he needs any educating on the matter. BACK ON TOPIC A bunch? Not likely. A few? Maybe I know I can't speak for anyone else... I'm just very skeptical. I would suggest that "snapshots" was already the Line 6 answer for this... which also provided an abundant level of other benefits at the same time. IMO... the biggest problem is making people understand the power of snapshots.... they are still an enigma to many.

You bought the preset.... have you asked Nick for support? That will be your best option. The preset was built on a 2016 firmware version... has it been updated it for a later firmware? Has he tested this with the later firmware? Does he even still use it himself? Here is a question.... did you restart the Helix after you loaded the preset? If not... the firmware might not recognize the preset.... Restart the Helix... let the Helix REBUILD that preset during restart... then try it. Since we haven't heard from you in two days.... you would have restarted already and probably found it works after doing that :)

rd2rk explained what you need to do nicely... this is just an explanation as to why. By default... midi devices are shipped with default midi settings... Global Send/Receive on Channel 1 Global Program Change send/receive ON "Sometimes" OMIN is turned On (this makes the device actually send/receive on all channels.. not just channel 1. Although this is a great way to ship a unit, people that use midi will often quickly change this. They will turn omni off (if it is on) They will set a device to it's own channel They will turn off global Program Change The Benefit of this? Once you do that you gain FULL CONTROL of everything you want to change, when you want to change it - without any surprises. You can use command center to send PC and CC messages during preset or snapshot changes. You can also assign a midi command to any footswitch in stomp mode.

No... IMO you are side stepping what is being said. Design is not function... a Speedometer is a Speedometer, but the LOOK is very different from one make to another. Before the Helix, every modeler looked different. They had similar functions... but they LOOKED different. BOSS looked like BOSS, DIGITECH looked like DIGITECH, LINE 6 looked like LINE 6, KEMPER looked like the Space Station (and in fairness, still does) etc... etc.... Right now pretty much everything looks like a Helix...both in hardware and UI. Where this unit DOES STRAY is in the footswitches... that's an interesting concept. Aside from that... it looks like it could have come from Line 6... it just didn't.

This product is still 9 months from first delivery.... If I have learned anything about Line 6 over the years... it's that you often don't know it's coming until it's available. Just because things are not talked about in the open doesn't mean things are not being done.

Bigger is always perceived to sound better :) Your accident will have introduced latency (ie: delay).... it doubled everything you were playing and made it louder. If you want the tone to begin with.... Add a delay and set it to a 50/50 mix. Set the delay to about 10 - 20ms... Turn everything up about 3db because that would also be the general volume increase of your accident. After doing this DO NOT enable record monitoring.... that will simply start the entire process over.

Tap tempo always requires at least 2 taps define a tempo. FWIW.. if I tap twice to define a tempo it is never as accurate as if I tap 4 - 6 times. That's not because the unit is screwing up... it's because I am keeping better time the more I tap my foot :) As for 240bpms (beats per milli second)... that can't be right. I'm sure you just mean bpm (beats per minute) Even then... I have never seen this with a single click of my tap button. Speculation... maybe a single tap defaults to the tempo of the preset.... do you have the preset tempo set to 240bpm?

Why helix hardware sounds better than the plugin??

The Stomp maxes out at 1M on the main inputs and that's the tone you love. If you have it set to AUTO it could theoretically be much lower depending on the first block that is turned on in the chain. This is the same variance as plugging a guitar into pedals boards & amps. Based on that, 2M and 4.7M are not the answer... although they are likely better than just a MIC level input if that is all the interface provides. Mic level is very low... around 1.5K... while even the low input on a Twin is around 150K (the normal input is 1M) IMO... Rather than worry about "transparent vs colored" you should think more about how it actually sounds. Color is not evil.... NEVE, SSL & API preamps for example are not transparent... engineers/producers like them for the colors they have. Are you talking about the preamps included in the Behringer Interface you mention earlier? If so, stay away from marketing hype. The Midas pre's in that interface are NOT the same MIDAS pre's they use in their own boards. Not to mention the rest of the unit is still a Behringer design, they don't have a reputation for great audio quality. How do you know they are not coloring the tone... based on your first two samples I would suggest they are stripping depth from the tone. If they truly are neutral... then neutral doesn't sound very good does it :) I defer to my comment above about color. FWIW... I have run my own tests... one is a direct "dry" signal from my Helix via USB, the other is my guitar plugged into my Soundcraft interface then recorded "dry". The two tones into Helix Native do sound a little different... but both sound very good - there is not huge difference like your sample provided. -
That should be right for Snapshot 3. However some devices require 0xB0 instead of just B0... it should be safe to try that. Also... keep in mind that in B0... the 0 stands for the midi channel - in this case Midi Channel #1. Make sure the Helix is set to receive on that channel, or change that value accordingly. It wouldn't hurt to contact line 6 support through your account and the ticket system... explain the problem and ask them what the Helix needs to see. At the same time... wait for word from forscore, then give them crap for not simply providing options for CC values. Forcing people back to HEX for MIDI is archaic! I haven't seen that since the 80's! Good luck... and please keep us updated. I'd like to know how this turns out.

Competition is a good thing.... I have no interest in changing... especially as a Variax owner, but I welcome choice.

Every new make/model that has come out since the Helix was released looks llke the Helix. Even BOSS! The GT100 released in 2012 had the traditional BOSS look that had been around for decades.... then the GT1000 in 2018 looked like a Helix. The only exception I can think of is the Kemper Stage.... and that's not necessarily a compliment :)
-
Many questions for troubleshooting. How are you measuring the output of the Helix? Input meters, outputs meters, just listening? Have you ruled out any discrepancies with the input gains on the mixer as a result of trims, pads, etc... etc...? Have you swapped the channels on the mixers? That's always a quick test to see if the problem followed the Helix output or the mixer channel. I would suggest swapping cables, however you are saying this happens with either 1/4" or XLR outs.. so I doubt that is the problem.

Why helix hardware sounds better than the plugin??
codamedia replied to willyjacksonjs22's topic in Helix
I see what you are asking now now.... You piggy backed onto a thread with one problem but you are describing something very different. Hence... confusion :) What we know.... NATIVE and DEVICE sound the same.... DEVICE is consistent because the hardware is setup for guitar NATIVE can vary depending on the interface used to get the signal into the computer. You really want to know if the HX is recording a pure dry tone, or if it is enhanced in any way! I guess it's a fair question to ask but please see bullet point #3.... interfaces all sound a little different. I don't know what interface you used to record those first two clips... but they do sound pretty hollow/empty. So if a user is using a 3rd party interface it is nothing but dumb luck or bad ears that convince them they are getting a good tone? I suggest we get some details before leaping to that level of condescension :) -
SD Hot Rails are 16K.... double the high end of the recommended range. I'm curious to know how this ends up... if the OP ever gave it a try.
