I've noticed over the life of Helix so far, that any official response about this doesn't exist. There has been an uncorroborated response by someone at Line 6 support relayed to this forum by a user. Seems a little strange to me because they are usually pretty vocal - and caring to an exceeding amount - about most other things. Maybe not enough users either have this problem or simply don't use the digital outputs. Or maybe it's a hardware problem that can't be worked around via software. At this point, though, I would find it very difficult to believe they don't know the problem exists. What little is known about this problem, by users, so far suggests to me it's something that can't be fixed and they'd just rather remain silent about it. As others have pointed out, it is a feature listed in the documentation, and one would assume it's fully functional.

That makes sense. I'm with taking zooey's advice then and report it as bug. But If it is summing the input to mono, that's probably intentional. I wonder why they would do that?

It seems to me this is working as it should. If the the mix (wet/dry balance) on the reverb is at 100%, there is no dry signal and therefore no panning. If you decrease the mix towards 50%, the panning slowly reappears.

1. Press the preset knob. 2. Rename snapshot 3. LED Color Then in global settings: Displays -> LED Ring Brightness (Off/Bright or Dim/Bright)

Maybe I'm easily placated, but I'm just glad there is a usable auto-volume in Helix now. One that hides the pick attack on every single pick attack, regardless of what else is going on in the signal, unlike the HX autoswell.

Dropouts are still there with 2.50. :(

There is a some sort of mode with a moving block on the screen by holding switch 1 and powering on. The mode is interactive, but I'm not sure what it's for. There is also a diagnostic mode by holding 4&5 while powering on. This one tests the physical aspects of Helix.

A point I thought worth mentioning is I can't recall ever hearing excessive string noise when I was using the HD. Maybe it was still there, just better hidden because of reasons stated directly above by HO. An excessive clarily present in Helix relative to the HD.

What's weird for me, is I've only ever really noticed it with high gain rhythm tracks. I don't think I've noticed it on clean or lead playing/tones. Just to be clear, my subjective take on unwanted string noise in the context of Helix is of a kind that is squelchy, high pitched, and easily cuts through an entire mix. Other sorts of string noise I don't mind at all as it can lend some character to the tone. Whenever I come across the unwanted kind, I try and find the cause and so far have mostly failed, but I don't make it a mission and go to great lengths either. It's just one of those recurring things I end up moving on from until the next time it annoys. So if you ever find the cause/solution-without-killing-the-tone, please let us know.

This is something that has been driving me nuts for a long time. I've sort of narrowed down the main culprit to 4k-4.5k. Using a parametric band, somewhere in that range, with a fairly high Q and approximately a 9dB (or more) cut minimizes it somewhat, but it remains, just not as loud. I'm sure it's not just that range, but others as well. I haven't found them yet. Or if I did, I rejected cutting the frequency because it affected the tone in a bad way. And like you mentioned, I notice it most with higher gain tones. Beyond that, I try to modify my playing technique so it doesn't occur, but that's not always easy.

Very efficient way to make a nice lush and wide reverb/delay effect. Thanks.

You forgot the group of people that doesn't give a shit either way. Lol. So they can be at least neutral to some people.

I had to change mine a while back, but eventually had to open a support ticket to have it changed because what silverhead suggests above didn't really work. It worked for my Line 6 support account, but did nothing for the email attached to the forums. Maybe they have since fixed this slight problem, but if not, you'll have to open a support ticket.

An actual usable auto-volume, in the legacy auto-volume delay, in addition to some of the legacy filter effects.

In the last Helix update, 2.30, depressing the tap switch once restarts effects like the Bleat Chop Trem. Could be the same for HX Effects.

I think the controversial part is adding all the effects from a previous generation device. Some people may see it as controversial because of the time spent to do it. After all, maybe we could have had another Marshall amp or two instead. Haha. It's probably fair to say most people don't see it that way though. I for one don't. It makes Helix complete.

I'm pretty sure you're right about this, as I use it. There's even a global variable called LED Ring Brightness.
-
It's the perfect update, and really does make Helix complete. I can now throw away my HD500X. Lol.

More DSP means you can utilize an expanded configuration of the available blocks. There may be tones available on an HD500X that aren't possible on an HD500. I'm thinking mostly of dual amp/cab setups while still retaining enough DSP for simultaneous use of other effects such as delay, reverb, modulations, filters, etc. When I moved to an HD500X, this is the thing that I found the most useful. The downside of using an HD500 as a backup is if you create tones on on HD500X, they may not be loadable on an HD500 because of DSP limits.

Exactly what I was hoping for. Perfect!

If I remember correctly, you shouldn't have to de-authorize anything, as Line 6 will allow you to have the metal pack on up to four devices. So just authorize a new device like you did with the HD500. If you decide you want to sell the HD500, then you may want to de-authorize the metal pack for that device, since you'll still want the metal pack for your HD500X.
