  1. I have used it successfully with delays. Choruses, not sure, but I would imagine that unless the settings for the chorus are really extreme, it would be difficult to notice anything. But it's currently a mystery why resetting the LFOs for all blocks at once (can't be selective with the blocks) in a preset works for me and not you.
  2. I'm confused by this statement? Isn't this what CC64 does? During reamping, I've used this to consistently reproduce the exact same result each time. I send the reset CC to Helix from the DAW multiple times during a track, resetting, or re-syncing?, the LFOs each time. However, if there are any blocks that have note division (instead of explicit millisecond), they should be set to millisecond because CC64 does seem to mess with the BPM, if two resets happen too quickly next to each other.
  3. I've pretty much tried all the available combinations between all the parameters and was never really satisfied with it. No matter the settings, the closer I listened to it the more I thought something seemed a little too misplaced and/or artificial. I should note that this is with only studio type work, and headphones. Nothing live. So its deficiencies might vanish under different environmental conditions.
  4. If you don't want to use an entire path for this purpose, there are other ways besides the double take, which is pretty bad. It has a lot of phasing issues, and there's just something 'off' about the effect. It might work ok on clean tones, but forget anything beyond that. Alternatives could be the dual delay, or for more control besides just delay try the dual pitch which allows you to use delay and pitch (cents granularity).

  6. I don't think he's having any problems with his USB connection. The license manager simply doesn't contain Helix in it's list of devices to authorize, so it will never find it.
  7. If you're at the limits of your technique, guitar, boosted gain, etc., one trick that might work for you is adding the auto volume echo legacy effect. Put it before the amp, with time, feedback, and depth all at minimum. Swell controls the amount of time it takes for the volume increase to occur. Mix at 100%. This can allow you to continuously strike a note while hiding the initial attack quite well, creating a mostly seamless, continuous note with potentially infinite sustain.

  9. The license manager isn't used for Helix. Instead, register it in your support account.
  10. Within Reaper, how are you checking for a signal from input 7 or 8? On a track, make sure it's armed for recording and that the input is correct, either 7, 8, or both.
  11. ASUS software bundles sucks Baal's balls. I've had fairly good luck with their motherboards over the past 10+ years though. The motherboard software isn't necessary.
  12. Check the audio device settings in Repear and make sure you have all 8 inputs and outputs defined by setting the first (1) and last (8) dropdowns for the inputs, and the same for the outputs. Now a track should be able to access all inputs and outputs. Don't know about Audacity.
  13. If the type of bass music is slightly greater than simple, you're probably setting yourself up for an exercise in frustration. Trying to get a good bass tone with a bass guitar is difficult enough as it is. If you're even a little serious about recording, my suggestion would be to at least get a cheap bass, and don't waste precious time with anything less.
  14. Just like everyone else mentioned above, this problem has been going on for quite some time and is most annoying. There were problems before they switched to the new forum as well, just not as severe. Don't know about the direct link back; deeper levels show up for me on firefox.
  15. I once solved the overpopulation problem by doing a global reset. :) I would try the things pianoguyy listed. If none of those work, and/or you're not good with electronics, you'll probably have to get it serviced somewhere.
  16. About 20% more DSP. If you're thinking you'll make use of dual amps, that extra DSP is worth it. With the non X, there isn't much room left for other effects. On average, you might get a delay, compressor, distortion, and maybe a reverb, depending on the amp models used. With the 500X, there's still enough room for significantly more effects while using dual amps.
  17. Good point. Should have thought of that, because I've lost count on the number times I've stumbled on something I really ended up liking, refining, and using. The count is probably somewhere around the number of times I've been fascinated and hypnotized while watching Bob Ross in an 'alternate' state when I was younger.
  18. For those who write their own music, what comes first? Mostly tone, or the music. If it's the music first, the starting tone does not matter, so it's very generic and biased towards, as what the op mentioned, what my tendencies are. Usually nothing more than an amp, cab, delay, and reverb. Then I'll actually start writing some concrete music. As the music takes shape, which includes an expanding number of tracks, I'll start making detailed tones that conform to the music. Each track's tone is built in conjunction with the originating tone, which could be any of the tracks that make up the song. I usually have no idea what the final tones end up being and how simple or complicated they may be. Depends mostly on what I want to do musically. If it's mostly the tone first, I'll have a musically vague idea, but I'll construct a detailed, stand alone preset first. Usually a lead track, but sometimes not. It's also biased towards my broader tendencies. It's somewhat the opposite of the music first method. Depending on what the musically vague idea is, this may include compressors, EQs, specific cab or IRs, specific amps, etc. This method also allows the opportunity to start exploring what Helix has to offer for creating something unique. The presets can become quite messy at times. So the answer to which comes first, mostly tone or music, is both, but at different points and levels of detail within a song. And when the song is near completion, there comes a phase where tones of all tracks will be nitpicked with small tweaks. The end result will hopefully be that the tone is integral to the music and vice versa.
  19. I'll add that it's not just the tones of the different tracks working together, but also the musicality of the tracks working together, which adds another layer of complexity. And to make matters even more complex, all these components working together are dynamic, and may not be consistent throughout an entire song.

  21. Not completely sure if I got what it is you're wanting to do, but anyway: A couple of thoughts. It strikes me that the risk of not having any backup would be less than that of renting your device because that would introduce all kinds of other variables completely out of your control, as you hinted at. Best to stick with scenarios that are defined, unless you like the thrill of unknown/undefined risk, in which case go for it. But at least develop a fairly iron-clad contract for your benefit. But if renting your device is only for the purpose of helping to gather funds for an eventual backup for yourself, there's probably better ways... For the backup itself, if you have Helix Rack or Floor, a slightly cheaper backup would be Helix LT, which tone-wise is functionally equivalent. Or a cheaper older generation modeler, even used. Or a modeler not from Line 6. The problem with non-HX modelers would be the extra work of constructing presets.

Not sure if this might be what you're looking for, but expanding on what silverhead said above, after making sure everything in your preset is not defined by note format, when you want the delays or modulations to start (or reset) at a specific point in time, tap the tempo button once. This resets any LFOs, and I'm pretty sure delays as well. However, it relies on your accuracy of hitting of the tempo switch. If you're doing things with midi control, you can send Helix a CC64 (I don't think the value matters) for likely greater precision.
