I have a Danelectro Freespeech talk box. I don't know how much you know about talk boxes but here's the path using a normal amp to make sure you understand. The signal goes from to the guitar to the talk box input. In the talk box, there is a little speaker whose sound goes to a long plastic tube. The sound travels through this tube to the other end. You snake the tube up a mic stand and tape it at the top next to a mic. That mic signal goes into a seperate amp. That's right. A whole different amp. That's where the sound is produced. Can the Helix do this? Yes it can and it workds great! Here's the path I use (you actually need two). First of all there are several ways to do this. This is just mine. The first path is your normal guitar into the Helix path. Put a Send at the very beginning of that path and make sure it is set to Instrument Level. Connect that Send to the Talk Box. Take the tube from the talk box and snake the tube up a mic stand to get it next to the mic and tape it there. You want the tube right next to your mic sticking out enough so that the tube can go in your mouth AND the mic is directly in front of your mouth. Just type in "Frampton talk box" in an images search and you'll see what I mean. The mic is what provides the talk box's audio/sound/effect to the separate amp. Since that mic normally goes to a separate amp, we need to create a separate path in Helix with a Mic input. So connect the mic next to the talk box tube to the mic input on the Helix. Then create a separate path for the mic with a mic input. There are several ways to do this but you're on your own for that. So that path goes to your output. You can put an amp or anything else in the path to help simulate the "normal" talk box sound. You can blend the two paths or just have one or the other by turning each paths output up or down. As I recall, for the right "talk box" sound, you just want the talk box path on it's own so turn the other path all the way down. Now you could do this without using the Send in Helix. Just plug into the talk box and take the talk box's 1/4" output and connect it to the Helix. That signal is only the guitar, no effect. Then do all of the same stuff with the tube/mic. It just saves having to use the Send. Or you could just have one path with the mic only. Of course, That's all you' have in that patch. This is a lot and I'm not at home right now. When I get home I will try and find that patch and post it here for you. I assure you that the Helix can do this. I've done it. By the way, this is how talkboxes originally did what they do so I think of this as a "normal" talk box. Just FYI. Good Luck! EDIT: I just looked at your Talkbox manual. One way to think about this is that you are making Path 2 your PA in regard to those diagrams

Nice.

If i understand you correctly, you are correct. themetallikid has your solution. I've known about this and it is sooooo cool. You can program any switch to do anything on a per patch basis. I think you can even program one to get you a beer! The robot is not provided so cost is an issue.

I learned my lesson the same way. The hard way. Was at a venue with "dirty" AC. Only lost a fuse that day thank goodness. Sorry about your misfortune. That truly, really, is the definition of, sucks.

The free Cakewalk is probably good enough. I'm assuming it allows you to use plugins. The best free "full featured" DAW that I'm aware of is called Reaper. it's not user friendly but a lot of people like it and there's a ton of info on how to use it out there.

Not to negate the previous post but Native is approx $500 however, if you get an LT, it's only approx $100. If you think you would use it. And if you have to get both an audio interface and monitors, the price starts getting closer to the LT. $500 plus the Focusrite 212-approx $160 and the monitors which, the cheapest (that you probably would not want) was approx $100. So now you're at $760. And you will probably want a better studio monitor so you're now probably at $800 to $900. You may already have all of that but it is something to think about. Then again, you'd probaly have to get studio monitors for the LT too, so that is not so much of an issue. Also, remember it is a VST plug in and not a stand alone program. So you would have to have a DAW of some kind and use it inside that program. So you need to be comfortable doing that kind of thing. It's not just plug in and play. You'd have to do a little setting up before you could start strumming unless you kept your DAW running all the time. There are stand alone programs that will run VST plugins but it all is more hassle to use than an LT. And there will be some latency. This is all, of course, just my opinion.

One warning that was mentioned here is the amount of choice you will have. It can be overwhelming. You will be tempted to try everything at once. I know I was. But the better way to treat it is as if you had the key a Guitar store late at night with access to everything they have for as long as you want. You wouldn't just run around an plug into a different amp every 5 minutes, you'd spend some time with each amp and then try different effects with each amp. At least that's what I'd do. So, spend some time with each amp/effect. I mean zip through them at first. Ya have to right? But take your time later on. And don't worry about all of those amp parameters at the bottom. Sag, bias, etc. Just stick with the basic amp parameters at first. Everything above but not including the Master parameter. What is the Master parameter? It's the power amp as opposed to the preamp. If an amp doesn't have a Master on it, it is generally set at 10. So a Marshall JCM 800 has a Master on it but a Fender Twin does not. So the Master parameter is set at 10. I hope I'm not already starting to confuse things. As said before there is a learning curve. Also, I'm not sure what your experience is but know that you will not be experiencing what you would playing an amp in a room. What you will experience is what you would if you were in a recording studio sitting on the comfy couch, listening to the amp through the stuido monitors. Hence the mic and mic distance choices Good Luck!.

A Helix would definitely cover everything I can think of that you would need. But I would not get a full on Helix. I'd get a Helix LT or even a POD Go. the LT is a Helix lght with less physical inputs and outputs but all of the software ability. The POD Go has most if not all of the Helix effects but is much more limited in the patch programming department. I think the Helix LT would actually cover all of your needs but the POD Go has most if not all of the amps/effects of the Helix. Helix-approx. $1500, Helix LT approx $1000, POD Go approx. $500. I would download the manuals and check out what each one offers. Then buy it from place that offers a 30 day moneyback guarantee. https://line6.com/support/manuals/

Not about punishment dude. Just seemed an odd connection since He hadn't been mentioned before AND it was my attempt at humor. In the interest of full disclosure, I did steal the joke from a Comedy Central Roast. Sorry about that. Thought you knew about Jesus' history of persecution since you knew about the walking on water thing. Not sure why you could determine anything about how I feel about a demo being obnoxious or not. Where did you get that impression from? I thought i was just joking around with you and clarifying a definition. I don't have an opinion one way or another really about Wowness. But you seem to be wound just a little tight. Sorry about that. I'll be more careful.

Whoa dude! Whaddya bringing Jesus into this for? The man has been through enough without connecting him to this drivel. ;) And technically it is falsifiable in that it has the ability to be represented falsley. Falsifiable means that. It doesn't mean it IS false, just that it has the ability to be represented falsely which is essentially what was going on with your Jesus statement. (I had to look the word up to get it's exact definition).

The warning is there in that if you read the installation instructions, it is the first thing it says to do and warns against not doing it.

I've learned never to get my hopes up about this kind of stuff but I was thinking exactly the same thing. Now about those reverbs.............;)

Awwww. You're no fun. (Just kidding of course)

Brand: Fruit Of The Loom Style: Ax FX III Both the Helix and Ax FX III style are very cofortable but some people say the Ax FX III style ride's up slightly less than their Helix style. Of course, not everyone agree's and they cost significantly more. ;) Almost everyone agree's the Helix style is easier to put on. But, Def Leppard swears by the Ax FX III style.

Sigh. registering only matters because it indicates that you probably quickly registerd one product so you couldn't be accused of not owning anything Line 6. Then you swung onto and joined the forum making your FIRST post ever anti Helix. The topic here IS here because of you. It had actually died several months ago. YOU reserrected it. It's not actually a topic though now. Just an opinion. No one asked your opinion. You just provided it. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. And it was provided NOT to help any Helix users. It was to put down the choice that people here made. Puff out your own chest and crank out your ego and spit in the face of the people here. You don't like Hellix. You like the AX FX? Good for you. I don't care what you think. Do you actually delude yourself into thinking you're being helpful? It wouldn't surprise me if you did. Which makes me respect your opinion even less. Not that I had any respect for it in the first place. And no, I don't think it is wise to listen to anyone else about how something sounds except yourself. If you want other people to decide for you, fine. That's not how I roll. I don't actually even like Vai's tone. Never did. Not that I'm right or wrong. Tone is subjective. AND, by the way, last I heard, he does not use the Fractal modeled amps. He likes them slightly better than Helix but he still wants real amps. He only uses the Fractal for effects in his situation. I don't know about Metallica. Def Leppard has used "modelling" for years now in that they used a modded Rockman device for several decades so they like a more processed sound anyway. Not that that's bad. I don't think its a character flaw. Just an opinion. But since they did, are ya gonna run out and get a Rockman Sustainer now? And as far as wasting your time. You're doing it here. I really like and enjoy my Helix but would never put another person's choice down because of it. And I have heard a friend's AX FX. Some of it was good, some bad. Just like the Helix. And I wasn't complaning about the FX units. YOU WERE!! My complaint was about YOU. Not the AX FX. I never once gave my opinion about one being better than the other. Try readin closer next time.

This is a huge assumption but it is my understanding that Line 6 modeled the amps so that the knobs that Helix has that are on the amp, react the same as the original amp. That would indicate to me that your second guess, a modifier on top of the inherent sag characteristics specific to that amp , is correct. But I honestly have no idea.

So you've had your Helix for awhile and your first post on here is to let us know you replaced it with an AXE FX 3? Your first post on a Helix forum is to let us know you like the AXE FX 3 better? Well gee golly whillickers, thanks for the info. It was really really really really helpful. And now that I know that Metallica, Def Leppard and Steve Vai, oh, excuse me, METTALICA (sp.), DEF LEPPARD OR STEVE VIA (sp.) bought the AXE FX as well, I guess I'd better get one too. I remember thinking as I made my helix purchase, "gee I hope METTALICA (sp.), DEF LEPPARD OR STEVE VIA (sp.) use the Helix" before I got one. Yup, you really showed all of us Helix users the truth now. And I'm sure your expertly worded first Helix post will send legions of Helix users into ex Helix user land. What a relief you are here to show us the error of our ways. Of course the fact this is your first and, so far, only post in no way indicates you're just a nasty old troll. No no no no no...........Not at all. And let's not forget that despite owning three Line 6 products, you have only registered one in your name. Is it the Helix you got rid of or just one of the power cabs? You are so clever.

Every conversion degrades the signal slightly. It would be like taking two audio tapes and constantly rerecording/bouncing something several times. Each dub adds noise. Of course it isn't as obvious in this digital format but it does happen.
-
It does look like to me that you're just doing it too fast for the hardware/software to keep up. How long have you had your Helix? If it's been awhile, is this something that has started since the new update? It appears that you recently aquired your Helix. I'd be curious as to how fast you have to change presets for it to happen. two per second, three per second. If it did it consistently at a certain speed then I would be more convinced that the hardware/software can't keep up. Although I'm already pretty convinced that it's true. Not sure there is a user answer for this.
-
So to make sure I'm understanding you. To me the Helix has two paths.. 1 & 2. You can split each of those paths into two parallel paths A & B. Are you talking about Path 1 that has been split into two parallel paths, A & B, or are you using paths 1 & 2 separately and just referring to them as A & B?

if you are using the Line 6 updater to do this, try downloading the latest version of HX Edit which is 3.0 and use that. See if it recognizess your unit in any way. I believe you answered all of these but just to be thorough, are you using a USB hub? If so, don't. Have you tried any other USB inputs on your computer or any other computer. Do you have a Mac and if so, have you updated to the latest OS? If you have, Line 6 are having issues with it (they are not the only ones). Here's some instructions on how to reset your unit. I would do a full on factory restore which requires restarting while holding two switches down, not just one as you did. Then see step 4. This is what you did. It says you will see a blank screen which is what you experience. Where you go from that blank screen, i couldn't tell you. My guess would be, despite the blank screen, hook it up to your computer again and try HX Edit 3.0 first to see if it will be recognized. HX Stomp 1. All 3 Footswitches clears all presets/IRs 2. FS1+2 resets presets and IRs 3. FS 2+3 does a factory restore (globals, presets, IRs) 4. Pressing and Holding down the "Page >" Button while powering up will put the HX Stomp into update mode. This update mode is helpful if the update is interrupted, and the HX Stomp will not boot properly. You will see a blank screen (no visual feedback on the display). 5. While holding both the Upper and Lower Knobs, turn on HX Stomp. Wait for "Will rebuild Presets..." to appear and let go. - This will rebuild presets manually. Being that you interupted the process by unplugging the power, you may need to send it into Line 6 to have them reset it somehow. This is a guess and something I know nothing about. Hope this helps in some way. Not sure that it will. check this thread out also.

What device are you using that has an SD card? Or is the SD card in your computer?

The E stands for edited. It just means you changed something to help you remember to save if you wanted to keep those changes. It's just part of one of the upgrades. Pay no attention to the E behind the curtain.

Check out the $5 lessons. A great deal.

By the way, if you have the floor Helix, there are many outputs/sends you can use to get the signal where you want it to go. Each path can be assigned to any output and, as an extra added bonus, since you can create a parallel signal path in each path, you can also take either of those parallel paths and make them have separate inputs and outputs, creating four separate paths, each with it's own input and output. Of course this increases the chance of DSP overload but still another great feature. Just know you have to create the parallel path before you can give it it's own input and output so you can't have a "blank" one to start with. Regarding the input and output when you create the parallel path, click and drag the split/merge block down and you will get your other input or output. That's the only way I know how to do it. See page 20 of the new 3.0 Helix manual.
