  1. Try using the Helix updater to do it offline. That seems to be what people have done in your situation. You are supposed to update it through HX Edit but others have had your experience as well.
  2. Yea, all the "my Helix is bricked" posts always make me nervous when I do updates but I've never had any issues that weren't my fault. Like this upgrade. I do the upgrade, do a factory reset (I just like doing that though I don't think you really have to anymore) and "hey, it's been awhile, I think I'll check out the factory presets."...........What the ?!?!?. My Variax model knob light isn't on and I'm hearing no sound! After having a minor OH NO freak out and getting ready to factory reset my Variax (which was plugged in to the Helix with the VDI when I did the update and made me think "did that do something?") I found what was actually wrong. My master volume control knob was turned all the way down on the Helix. I normally have it disengaged so it's always on full but the factory reset engaged it again, of course. And with the Varaix, I just hadn't pushed down the knob that engages the guitar modelling which, as has happened before, goes to the "off" state when I've done a factory reset with it still plugged in. I've actually gone through this situation before. You'd think I'd remember by now. I've gotta write this stuff down.
  3. No, it has nothing like that internally. You could hook it to a computer and it is able to do QWERTY commands as well as key combos (like SHIFT/ALT) to control it.
  4. Just making sure you know that you do not use Line 6 updater to upgrade anymore. You upgrade through the editor now.
  5. Ah. I'll have remember that. Sorry, I'm old and unaware. ;D
  6. I'm assuming this is sarcasm. But to be clear, that was never my point personally. I hope that was clear in my post. I personally don't care that "they" don't post here that much BUT, I also don't care if people are offeneded by that. Just kinda neutral about it personally.
  7. Missed that. I've never really looked there. Thought they were more like Headlines than actual posts. Cool that he did that here as well.
  8. I thought this was pretty cool. Please don't complain too much that he didn't post it here. Still shows how classy Line 6 is I think. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/quick-ygg-covid-19-update.2149569/
  9. I have done this. It works really well.
  10. I would have to agree with this conclusion. @wjernigan, have you tried it yet?
  11. Well, let's start with this. The way to think about modelers is not as what you would hear plugged into an amp. It's what you would hear with a miced amp in a studio on a speaker in the control room. So, plugging a Helix into the front of a guitar amp would be like plugging in your smart phone to listen to music through a guitar amp. It would not sound good. You want something that reproduces all frequencies as equally well as possible. This is commonly referred to as FRFR which stands for Full Range, Flat Response. Not that there aren't ways to do to use a regular guitar amp but that's a different rabbit hole. RE: a power amp. These days you don't need one if you don't want to use one. Keep in mind this is a term that is thrown around in several ways. A guitar amp usually has what's refered to as a power amp in it along with a preamp. And keep in mind, in the interest of expediency, I will be skipping over some things. It's kind of like a computer. There's always hundreds of ways to do even a simiple task. So it sounds like you plan on there being a strong possibility of using the amp instead of the PA for the room. I would recommend the powercab from Line 6 then. It will give you the best simulation of what you would hear just playing next to a guitar amp. Here's thie big one. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PwrCab212Pls--line-6-powercab-212-plus-active-guitar-speaker Otherwise you can get a powered FRFR PA speaker. This eliminates the need for a power amp. It's already integrated into the speaker unit. I'm guessing that's what you might want. Line 6 has a line of expensive ones that have all kinds of bells and whistles. This seems to be the one many guitar players get if they get one. https://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/line-6-stagesource-l2t-acoustic-guitar-amp--loudspeaker/h93010000000000 This one I would call your average powered speaker. It is just an example. Some like this one some do not. It was also supposedly designed for amp modellers. https://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/headrush-frfr-112-2000w-1x12-powered-speaker-cab/l19458000001000?rNtt=hedrush&index=1 There are so many, I couldn't begin to start recommending any one. FYI I've not tried any of the products I've mentioned. One thing to consider is whether you're planning using this just to monitor yourself or for essentially no PA, all of the sound coming from your amp. This plays into it as well. These are just a couple of thoughts on this. This is a big rabbit hole. There are many options. These are just a couple that I think could work in your situation.
  12. There's this guy https://www.gearbyceba.com/line6-family-usa
  13. I see. You'll need to hear from someone with way more experience with that than me. I have none. But it sure sounds possible. Good Luck!!
  14. Most people say the Fractal sounds slightly better. Many people say you can get the Helix to sound just as good. Does the Fractal sound better? As we all know, a lot of this is opinion but if it is better, in my opinion it is not $400 better. I liked Ilya's comments a lot about how they each model amps. Makes me like my Helix even more than I already do.
  15. Q1: I believe so. It has been upgraded to now be able to send key presses and shortcut combinations (like SHIFT + ALT) so it should be doable. Not sure though. Never tried it myself. Q2: Authentic? No. BUT, check this out. You can buy his model pack that does this here. https://fremenpresets.com/line-6-helix/
  16. If you don't have a Helix or other Line 6 product with a VDI input AND a VDI cable, you need a battery. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/JTVBatt2--line-6-replacement-battery-for-jtv-guitars Don't forget the charger. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/L6VBatCharge--line-6-variax-battery-charger-kit Or a power supply http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/VariaxPwrKit The pots will work no matter what. I'm pretty sure he was talking about controlling the pots from a device like the Helix. You need it for that. Either way, the modelling needs power from somewhere. The analog mags will always work.
  17. That's essentially what I do. Helix-mixer-speakers. I use the mixer to adjust listening volume and the computer goes in there too. I think the reason people focused on the Volume knob is that you're basically a bedroom rock & roller (me too mostly) so pristine sound quality probably wouldn't be an issue. I personally have the Volume knob defeated for the XLR's, set those to mic, and adjust my patch level with the Channel level parameter. I do play out a little so this works for me. One possibility, asw I now ponder this, would be to send your signal to the speakers via the 1/4" outs. This is assuming you are using your XLR outputs for recording. You then have the Volume knob control only the 1/4" outs so the signal to the mixer stays the same and you can adjust the level using the Helix Volume knob. I think something like this might have been mentioned before. In case you're curious, my speakers are some low end Mackie powered "shelf" monitor speakers that I got on sale. Ya know, the ones that are like computer speakers on steroids. Nothing special.
  18. So, obviously, the Return's level is too low. Does the Scarlett have a choice of Line or Mic for the output? Maybe try changing the Helix's Return to instrument level? Keep all levels down when you do that and slowly bring them up. There is also a Return level adjustment in the Helix as well.
  19. These always get a lot of attention and good reviews. I have no experience with either. I do own a Sans Amp PSA-1 and I like it a lot. It's basically the PSA 2.0 in a rack mount. https://atomicamps.com/amplifire-6/ http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/sansamp/psa-2/
  20. Your idea about having another "page" for 10 more buttons actually isn't a bad idea and probably not too hard to implement but I'm going to guess not a lot of people would use it. Me included. They have limited resources in trying to implement things so I'm guessing if it was decided to implement it, it would be low on the list. Instead of thinking of it as one massive pedal board, think of it more as a bunch of smaller pedal boards. Or at least two. For now, that would be your solution I think.
  21. Looks like it's more, two blocks. One for the amp and the other can be a dual cab block. So you'd only need two blocks. I thought you could just have one block that has an amp and dual cabs but I guess not. I'm not at home so this is all by memory and looking at the manual.
  22. I believe you can have 1 amp and 2 cabs in one block. It's been awhile since i've done that. But the DSP usage will be large.
  23. This is a big guess but try the Vox AC-15 and experiment with various speaker cab/mics. You may not want to use 2 amps since it will limit your blocks and DSP. One thing people do is one amp but two different cabs. You could try that.
  24. I would recommend the Pod GO just based on your inexperience with modelling. The HX Stomp is small but has more "options" than the Pod GO. If you want to just plug in, pull up an amp and some effects and play, Pod GO is for you. If you want to tweak your tone to death and spend a week deciding whether you want to have to amps or one amp and two cabinets, where you want the amp's bias set, etc. then the Stomp is for you. Again I would strongly recommend the Pod GO. It's just less user intensive and as a beginning guitarist, you want to focus more on playing and not the minutia of patch creation.
