  1. This is a big guess but try the Vox AC-15 and experiment with various speaker cab/mics. You may not want to use 2 amps since it will limit your blocks and DSP. One thing people do is one amp but two different cabs. You could try that.
  2. I would recommend the Pod GO just based on your inexperience with modelling. The HX Stomp is small but has more "options" than the Pod GO. If you want to just plug in, pull up an amp and some effects and play, Pod GO is for you. If you want to tweak your tone to death and spend a week deciding whether you want to have to amps or one amp and two cabinets, where you want the amp's bias set, etc. then the Stomp is for you. Again I would strongly recommend the Pod GO. It's just less user intensive and as a beginning guitarist, you want to focus more on playing and not the minutia of patch creation.
  3. The synth's seem pretty simple so just put one in a path and put other effects after if you want to mess with it. Here's some delay fun. Put the Transistor Tape delay in your patch, turn the feedback up fairly high and mess with the delay time. Then mess with the feedback at the same time. Be careful it can get away from you. Be ready to turn the Transistor Tape off. I think that will work. This is essentially the effect you hear on a few Boston songs.
  4. i put some thing(s) in a long time ago and I seem to remember I wasn't sure at first and put at least one up that I didn't want to but there was NO way to delete it (them). That was awhile ago though. Maybe something like that happened.
  5. Well I heard no delay tricks. Just off the top of my head the Whammy effect and maybe a synth block in front of that in the Helix should get you started. There is delay on the signal but that isn't what creates the effect I heard.
  6. That was a weird problem. Thank goodness it was an easy fix! This thing has SO many options it's easy to lose track of things. At least it is for me.
  7. Joe Walsh used a Fender Champ for Funk 49 but it was with a Telecaster. Doobies used a Fender Bassman for China Grove. Page used a Supro for much of his stuff also with a Telecaster. Montrose used a Fender Bandmaster with a distortion pedal (the first album) i believe it was a Big Muff. These are just a few of the not so obvious choices people have made for their "classic" Les Paul sound, even though some didn't actually use a Les Paul for the recording but often did live.
  8. Need more info. Is your XLR output connected to your computer in any way or is it going directly to the speaker and are you using the Helix's USB in your computer while you are recording.
  9. The download keeps failing.
  10. This is a variation of an old issue. I keep waiting for an update to correct it. After updating my Helix to 2.9, I created 11 new presets, each with the Variax's tone knob saved at 10, 9, 8, 7, etc. to Don't Force. When I go from one patch with the tone knob at one setting to different patch with a different setting, the tone knob's position remains the same as the previous patches tone setting. For example if I go from a patch with the tone knob at 10 to patch with the tone knob at 1, it stays on 10 even though the Helix Editor indicates the tone knob is at 1. HOWEVER, if I select the patch with the tone knob at 1 again (either from the Helix or the HX Edit) it then will switch the Variax to the saved tone knob position. If the tone knob is saved as Don't force it goes to whatever position the tone knob on the guitar is at. So that does seem to work. This same type of thing appeared to be happening with the Volume knob before as well but seems to be corrected. So, for now, if I have a saved tone knob setting, I have to hit the patch switch TWICE for it to actually switch the tone knob setting on my JTV Variax to the saved setting. Has anyone come across this phenomenon? Apparently it's not an issue with Snapshots. Only going from one preset to another.
  11. So it does work in snapshots? Just not on a preset basis. Hmmmm. That's interesting. Good work around. Thanks. But Line6. if you're listening, it still doesn't work with presets.
  12. I have. In the past and two days ago. It was basically ignored. Can you tell me if you've come across this phenomenon? I just want to make sure I'm not crazy since I've not received a lot of feedback on this. I gotten one piece of advice in the past (to create a brand new patch) but it's still there.
  13. I agree. I also wonder if these are eventually going to make it into HX Edit which is what I use mainly to create patches. It's difficult for me to see the meters on the Helix from my current setup.
  14. This is kind of off topic but it's a JTV Variax issue that's been with the Helix for awhile in various versions. This is what I've come across with Helix 2.9. This relates to the JTV Variax. I created 11 new presets, each with the Variax's tone knob saved at 10, 9, 8, 7, etc. to Don't Force. When I go from one patch with the tone knob at one setting to different patch with a different setting, the tone knob's position remains the same as the previous patches tone setting. 15. This relates to the JTV Variax. There was an issue like this before but seems to be diffferent since the 2.90 update. Here's what it is now. I created 11 new presets, each with the Variax's tone knob at 10, 9, 8, 7, etc. When I go from one patch with the tone knob at one setting to different patch with a different setting, the tone knob's position remains the same as the previous patches tone setting. 16. Are you doing this from the unit itself, or the edit program on the computer?
  17. I hadn't heard that. I had heard about favorites. Good to hear.
  18. I have disliked the stock settings for just about everything in the Helix. Don't use them as an example of how the amp sounds. I don't think they are a good place to start from but it is the only place. I'm hoping one day they will allow us to change and save the stock setting for everything so I can pull up what i like immediately and not have to remember where I like a certain amp to start from.
  19. You definitely need the ASIO driver. Not everything accepts it though.
  20. You can assign buttons to certain keystroke(s) and that's how it's done. So you could assign CTRL-A to a button. I'm assuming it's transmitted via the USB but I at least know you don't need to purchase anything else.
  21. Type "Help Helix" into a search engine. That is currently staying updated.
  22. Do the guitar pickups still work? Do you have something you can plug the VDI connector to to see if that works?
  23. Holy smokes dude. May I just say I wish I knew what you know.
  24. Well it seems to be working well now. Not to get anyone's hopes up (in fact I'll only post this here) I recall this often happening when (dare I say it) a new update was getting ready to drop.
