The inquiring minds will find out at the exact same time as the completely indifferent minds...with the official press release. Remember, recommended pickup height is "007" stuff around here. 😂 And while they certainly don't invite me to the R&D meetings, I'm gonna go ahead and guess a big fat "no"...

There's only so much DSP to go around... some amp models chew up more than others, as do stereo FX vs. mono. Based on what's already in your chain, it greys out anything that would throw you over the limit.

There is a very vocal contingent of fuzz users who don't like what the "auto-z" setting does to their tone when the fuzz is turned off... most of those guys will have the same footswitch that's assigned to the fuzz toggle the impedance setting to 1M when the fuzz is bypassed, and then back to "auto" when the fuzz is active. YMMV... There are a couple of other threads floating around where this is debated at length.

Honestly, the POD'S factory patches are notoriously wretched...you're better off without them. It's been a much-discussed topic over the years. If you're creating your own patches and you're happy with them, then you're already ahead of the game. Some guys show up in here after having struggled to get useable tones out of it for years...

Ok, if you're not looking to go FRFR and you already have a power amp, then you can get any 2x12 that floats your boat...BUT, anything you choose is gonna color the tone one way or the other. That's fine, unless you're also running The POD straight to the PA...in that scenario, the tone you'll be hearing on stage will be very different from what's going to the FOH. Makes dialing in tones difficult, as the two sources will sound SIGNIFICANTLY different.

Matrix and Mission Engineering make powered FRFR 2x12 guitar cabinets...the Alto TS212's are also popular, but none of those are "traditional" guitar 2x12's...depends on what you're really after, and budget of course. The Alto's are more reasonably priced, the others start to get a bit expensive. Imho, FRFR is the way to go, but if you really want a traditional 2x12 cab, you're gonna need a power amp, for which there are a million options, too.

This could be a valid option for the Helix at a reasonable price

Well that's a new one, lol... First thing I do with a new guitar, especially one purchased online, is change the strings...no telling how long they've been on there, or under what conditions. Doesn't take long for strings to get $hitty, even un-played.

Pickup selector switch

The powers that be will likely say no, and attempt to equate fixing a JTV with repairing the Hubble telescope. Tales of woe about some half-wit's botched attempt notwithstanding, as far as I'm concerned, as long as it isn't the guy's first day with a soldering iron, and he can outsmart Forrest Gump...the answer is yes. There are guys around here who don't make a living fixing guitars, yet they've managed to swap out mag pickups, piezos, and busted switches, all without a trip to the ER. It can be done. Half the time an "authorized service center" is your local Megalomusic, and the "tech" is a 19 year old kid. You do the math... -
Line 6: seems they're missing a huge marketing segment.

There is...it's the LT. It arrived a bit later than it's big brother, but it's 2x the cost of a POD, not 3x. Like it or not, that's your intermediate step up. If you look long enough and catch the right sale, or find a used one on eBay, you can probably get yourself into the $750-$850 range...a bit more "intermediate", and perhaps more palatable for you. Might take some doing, but it ain't impossible. We can lament it all day long, but the days of the $500 modeler are pretty much over...unless you look at stuff like the Amplifi, FX100, or elsewhere like Zoom, which are all geared more towards the hobbyist on a budget. They'd go out of business trying to have pricing tiers in $200 increments, and a different product to cram into each one. It is what it is. -
Those speakers have balanced 1/4" inputs. You should really get a balanced TRS 1/4" cable if you don't want to use the XLR... A typical 1/4" guitar cable is unbalanced, and has a TS connector. Unbalanced cables, especial longer ones and those that end up dangling near any power cables, tend to pick up extra noise. And definitely get a second JBL...they're very nice monitors (I have a pair myself), but your gonna need two of them if you plan on doing any recording. Even if you don't, stereo FX are fun...

Best Helix presets I've heard (for my taste that is)
cruisinon2 replied to RichardLainegard's topic in Helix
Yeah, everything's up to date. I'll try dragging the IR's into Native. The patch itself loads fine. I usually don't bother with trying to adapt other's patches as I've had little success with it over the years But in this case I was curious as I like this guy's playing a lot, and this one actually sounds pretty good with a couple of other IR's I already had. -
"HELIX HOME-STUDIO" - A suggestion for a new HELIX category
cruisinon2 replied to d0stenning's topic in Helix
This is a classic example of "because I would find all of this stuff useful/ awesome, therefore everyone else should too". If you look hard enough, you'll find a guy who thinks that Helix will never be complete until patches can be edited from his WiFi equipped lawn tractor...but just because he'd be thrilled hardly makes the desire universal. I think it would be endlessly entertaining if the tap tempo feature responded to farts, but in the end it's just gonna make you spend more money on beans...so where's the upside? Too many irons in the fire is never a stable business strategy. Watering down their flagship product to make it more appealing to the "everything must be connected to everything else at all times" demographic will accomplish nothing except making the unit more expensive, and turning off the fence-sitters for whom cost is already a stumbling block. Fear not, though. Just wait for the release of Apple's "iEverything". It'll satisfy cravings you don't even know you have yet...😂 -
I'd say this is a bigger problem than how long your POD lasts...is she getting permission from you every time she buys a pair of shoes? If it isn't taking food off the table or sending her to the poor house, buy what you want...
-
It'll remain useful until it either stops working, or you decide that you're done with it...but there's nothing you can do to "prevent" either of those things from happening. It will, or it won't...and it's all about what's going on inside your head, not the POD. It's very likely that you'll eventually hit a wall with any unit like this...but it's not the device's fault, and there's probably very little to gain from trying to push past that threshold. The reality is that the overwhelming majority of users will only make use of a small percentage of what these things can do, because most of us have limited needs. For the most part, it's only the really seasoned and well rounded pros who can play any style of music convincingly, and have the need and desire to push these devices to their limits doing so. The rest of us tend to gravitate towards rather limited genres, and simply don't need every tone under the sun...don't know about you, but I don't often find myself playing country one day, and Norwegian black metal, the next. It's already WAY too easy to spend hours on end trying to dial in the sounds we DO need. Once you find them, what else is there to do? At some point you have to stop tweaking, and make some music. Having 143 different routes to the same destination is only useful if you're selling maps. So unless you really enjoy tweaking just for the sake of tweaking, this quest is just gonna have you burning a whole lot of calories, running around in circles.

Wouldn't be my choice for just a multi-fx unit either, but as my old man used to say, "There's an a$$ for every seat". Threads pop up from guys who bought Helix for that very reason all the time...the 4 cable methodologists who can't bear to part with their tube amp, but who are tired of tap dancing amongst 17 pedals at every gig...there's a definitely a market for it.

While I sympathize, in my experience nobody is ever in a rush to give away free $hit, whether it's a sales promotion or not. They're not gonna answer you in here, either. You'll have to try getting somebody on the phone. Failing that, send a registered letter telling them you're gonna contact a lawyer. They'll probably ship it that day...

"HELIX HOME-STUDIO" - A suggestion for a new HELIX category
cruisinon2 replied to d0stenning's topic in Helix
Finally, the $4000 Helix I've always wanted! (A) Not until I get WiFi-capable toilet paper. I'm home, Helix is home. USB works just fine. (B ) See (A) above. If I'm home, sitting in a chair with Helix at my feet, what do I need with a wireless? (C ) Or get one for $11 from Amazon. (D) Again, if I'm at home within arms reach, why do I need my phone and/or iPad to talk to Helix? (E) Why would it ever be necessary to have every electronic device I own connected to Helix at once? So I can edit multiple parameters simultaneously with all 4 limbs? (F) Wireless audio connections for everything will create all kinds of problems...drop-outs, latency, etc. Disaster in the making...no thanks.
