  1. For patches that use the ELECTRIC guitar set INPUT 1 to GUITAR and leave INPUT 2 as SAME or set it VARIAX if SAME produces too hot an input signal For patches that use the ACOUSTIC guitar set INPUT 1 to AUX and leave INPUT 2 as SAME or set it to VARIAX if SAME produces too hot an input signal For patches that use both ELECTRIC and ACOUSTIC or that can be used with either you can set INPUT 1 to GUITAR and INPUT 2 to AUX. NB: Using SAME for INPUT 2 is effectively like having a +6db boost on input.
  2. My L2m developed this problem - had it just over 3 months - only used it a handful of times - but it's now going back to the dealer and then on to Line6 for repair. I am pleased they are on to this and have a solution.
  3. I have successfully removed or added springs to trem guitars to get lighter or firmer tension for trem action and string bending. Sure less springs mean less tension which means easier to bend but also easier to put other strings out of tune as you pointed out, however, it is possible to adjust to a suitable tension that suits playing style to minimise that effect. More springs mean more stable tuning but harder bending. Certainly has felt that way in my experience.
  4. Some of the cut price JTVs being offered are just old stock being cleared. I bought a JTV69 for about 30% less than normal retail from a reputable site who were also selling the same model at full price. When it turned up I checked it over and it was in perfect condition, the only two things I noted were that it had firmware v1.71 installed and it's serial number revealed it was a 2011 model. Hence my belief it was simply old stock being sold off, I can't think of any other reason why it would be sold at such a discount. It was not scratch and dent or B grade, as the same site had sold a batch of those earlier and had clearly labelled them as such, this was brand new but reduced price.
  5. If the tension still feels too much you can always remove one of the trem springs. That will lessen the tension making it easier to bend strings as you won't be pushing against as many springs.
  6. Line 6 support have logged this as a bug, however, no idea when they can get round to addressing it. I have raised it on ideascale and if it gets enough votes then it will attract a higher priority to be investigated and fixed. Please vote to have it fixed. Thanks.
  7. the 69 comes with a vintage nut width which I believe is just 1mm smaller than a standard fender nut width - that 1mm difference may make it just too close for comfort for some people - but you won't know for sure till you try one. If you don't like it then it is a simple job to swap it out for your own ideal neck which means you get all the JTV features with your ideal neck. The JTV59 is very close to an traditional LP in terms of neck feel and size - so if your favourite neck is a standard Tele then you may not like the 59 but you can always put a standard Tele neck on the 69. But you don't want to do that until you are sure the rest of the guitar will behave as you want with your playing style - so I recommend getting one from an online dealer with a 30 day returns policy - try it out, see if it performs as you want knowing that you can always change the neck if its not to your liking. I also recommend looking for one of the many deal offers out there - you can save 30% if you go for one of the old stock offers or even more if you don't mind a "scratch and dent". Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
  8. Calling everyone who had an issue with string volume balance on some models when they installed either v2.0 or v2.1 firmware but did not have a problem with v1.9 or earlier firmware. I know plenty of people complained about this issue when v2.0 came out, and I know that you have either tweaked the volumes in WB or decided to stay on v1.9 or earlier. In fact, the string volume balance being way off may be the reason why people decided they could not live with the new HD models and rolled back because obviously the new models would sound bad if the string volume balance was way off, so if we can get it fixed then everyone will be able to try out the new HD models as they are meant to be heard straight after the install without having to adjust them drastically in WB to get them playable. We are not talking about slight volume differences here - we are talking about over 6db of gain difference - for example, on the T-MOD pos 1, the high E sounds like a Telecaster bridge pickup on about 3/4 volume, and the low E sounds like a LP bridge pickup on full volume. That is not normal string volume variation. Sure it can be adjusted in WB but it should not be like that fresh from the firmware install. So, is it a hardware issue that has come to light with v2.0 and v2.1 firmware but only on some JTVs, or is it a firmware install glitch that only comes to light on some JTVs when moving from v1.9 (non-HD) to either v2.0 or v2.1 (HD)? We don't know .... yet. Gathering the data and sharing it will help determine what is the root cause of this issue and hopefully then it can be fixed. Please can everyone who has had this issue contribute to this thread and share their experience and data. Thanks very much for your help. :)
  9. There are different issues with JTV69's ....... but the big plus point is that you can swap out the neck and have your own choice of neck that you prefer - it just has to be one that is designed to fit a standard strat pocket. That way you get a guitar that is perfect for you.
  10. I had problems setting the calibration on my HD500 expression pedal - never seemed to want to register the max 255 or the min 0. But I discovered that if I gently pushed it to toe and gently returned it to heel that it would recognise and reflect the max 255 and min 0 values during the calibration process - but if I pushed hard on either extreme then I could never get it to reflect 255 and 0. Hope that helps!
  11. Where are all the JTV users that complained about this problem the first time it reared it's head? Please add an update so we can get to the bottom of this particular issue one way or another. Many thanks! :) I have added it to ideascale so we can bring attention to it and hopefully get it addressed, so please take a moment to vote for it if you want to see it fixed, here is the link: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Please-fix-model-string-volume-imbalance-with-fw-2-0-and-2-1/619937-23508 Thanks! :)
  12. I thought the 500X footswitches were meant to be a significant upgrade and improvement over the footswitches used on the 500, so I am not pleased to hear about these problems, especially as I still have a 500 and I have had it for a couple of years now, so what can I do for a backup? I had thought that the 500X was the logical way to go, but hearing these stories means it really is best to wait until all these issues get sorted. Hope you guys get your 500X's fixed.
  13. Crazy, nuts, banana's! Never ceases to amaze me what things sometimes fix JTV glitches! I completely agree - none of the solutions in this thread make sense but clearly they have worked for the OP! :) :D
  14. I suggest you try what the OP did. Place one of the fully charged batteries in the JTV59 and leave it overnight. Then check it's status in the morning and if it's the same issue as the OP then the JTV59 should spring into life after having the battery in place overnight.
  15. Just an fyi .... While I was recording the clip for Line 6, I thought I may as well record a clip of all models at v2.1. I found that most of the electric guitar models have this imbalance to some degree or another - it's just that the T-MOD and SPANK models are quiet to start with so the extra softness of the high strings stand out even more. The acoustic models all seemed fine and nicely balanced. The reso models had a couple where the high E really screamed out loud and rest of strings were louder than v1.9 and some were no different to v1.9. I also recorded all models at v1.9 and I also recorded a couple of my standard guitars with a combination of single coil and humbucking pickups and noted they were very similar to the v1.9 models, so I could compare the waveforms. As you would expect a standard guitar does have different volumes for each string BUT they are close together in terms of db's and there is not the steady progression from very soft to very loud from high E to low E as there is with v2.1, and to the ear they sound a similar volume although actually they are different. In terms of db's the higher strings are usually quieter and the A is normally the loudest with the low E a little lower. Visually you can see that a standard guitar has a slight increase and then drops off at the low E, but on the v2.1 models there is a very steep increase up to the A and E.
  16. Well that is good news. The JTVs are normally set up by the Line6 distributor before they go to the retailer. All guitars will adjust to their surroundings due to climate changing/humidity/etc and you would expect to have to tweak it yourself to maintain optimum setup or to have it set to your preferred tolerances (action etc). The retailer really should double check the setup before dispatching it - just for their own peace of mind - and also to avoid issues like this - however - that is often not done in the UK because obviously it saves a few quid and they hope the customer will do it themselves. Most shops I have bought from offer at least one free setup in the first year to allow for guitars to settle in if you take it back to them but online retailers can't afford to do that as you would have to ship guitar back and forth and it's not practical, I hope the guitar gets set up nicely for you - and hopefully you will enjoy it when it is buzz free with an acceptable action.
  17. Are you on the latest firmware for both the DT25 and the HD500 ? If yes, then I suggest a reflash of both and see if that changes anything. If problem remains then contact Line6 support and open a ticket and they will help you get to the bottom of it. Good luck.
  18. BTW - how much did your local guitar shop say they would charge for a setup? And what did they say would need to be done to fix your JTV69? Or did they say it was impossible to fix and if so exactly why it would be impossible to fix? Or did they just say "send it back" and if so did they give a reason why it should be sent back rather than just be setup professionally? If they gave you a very good reason for why it could not be fixed then you can quote that back at Soundslive as a reason for exchange or refund ...... but just the fact that you are not happy is enough in the returns period from the shop. If it is just a problem with the nut slots cut too low that is easy enough for a luthier to fix, that is if you want to keep the guitar, and don't mind paying the extra to get it fixed.
  19. You have 30 days in which to make up your mind whether to keep the guitar or not. If there is anything about the guitar you don't like or are not happy with then distance selling ensures you can just ask for a refund or a replacement. The torn bag is not acceptable and is good enough reason for an exchange. You should not have to quote distance selling as Soundslive own policy will allow a refund or exchange within the first 30 days as long as you have not damaged the guitar. Just phone them up and tell them you are not happy because the guitar is not playable with the supplied action and that it is impossible to lower it because it is at it's lowest point based on the slots cut in the nut - it can't go any lower. Looking at your pictures again, and comparing with a couple of my guitars, I now think that the 12th fret action is about standard height, however, the first fret looks like it is touching the string which is incorrect - you should be able to see slight movement in the string when fretting at the first fret. If the string is already resting on the fret as it seems to be in your picture, then the nut slot has been cut too low, there needs to be a slight gap to allow the string to vibrate when it's played in an open position. You can easily test that - just press down at the first fret and see if the string moves down to the fret but it doesn't look like there is any room to play with there. I would call Soundslive and explain the situation with the guitar at the first fret - I would be surprised if they do not offer you a replacement. If they don't offer you anything - then you need to insist you either get a replacement or a refund - and if they still don't budge then it's time to mention their returns policy and then distance selling, sale of goods act, consumer rights etc .....
  20. Just thought - there is another option - if, other than the problem with the action, you like the guitar and got it for a good price and want to keep it, you could ask them to give you a further discount as you will need to pay to get it professionally set up - then get a luthier to set it up for you - it will probably cost between £20 to £40 depending on who you get to do it - and even if it needs a new nut I can't see it being more than £50 tops. You will end up with a very playable guitar set up perfectly but you will have to commit to keeping it. Hope it works out for you.
  21. That's not good. Anyone can see there is no clearance at the first fret and that means you will get buzzing just playing open strings because there is no space for string to vibrate and lowering action is out of the question as the strings will just buzz and choke. As for the bridge end, I think it is obviously higher than standard action. I would phone them and explain the situation and explain the guitar is unplayable because the slots in the nut are cut too low and ask for a replacement or a full refund - under distance selling laws they have to do one or the other for you - so insist on one or the other, whichever you prefer, but do not accept the guitar in the condition its in and do not go down the repair path or else you will be stuck with it and stuck with waiting for them to repair it. Good luck.
  22. As it's a new purchase I reckon they will offer a replacement if they have one in stock as that will be the quickest and easiest solution. If they haven't got another one available then this one will need a full set up which I reckon will include a new nut with the string slots cut at the correct height to give some clearance over the first fret, which gives some room to adjust the action. No clearance at first fret means no ability to adjust action other than upwards, and I can see from your pics that it is already too high at the bridge end.
  23. If anyone is interested in hearing and seeing the actual problem, I have attached an audio to this thread: http://line6.com/support/topic/7445-who-has-had-b-e-strings-very-low-volume-after-flash-upgrade/ It demonstrates a T-MOD pos 1, I play twice from high E to low E on the 5th fret, using an AC-15 model, then I engage default NOISE GATE and TUBE DRIVE and play the notes twice again which just serves to emphasise the effect. When you view it in a DAW you can clearly see how each note increases in volume, revealing that all strings are affected, and that there is in fact just a steady crescendo through to the low E. Please note I picked each note with the same standard intensity. I wasn't trying to pick lightly or pick as hard as I could - just a steady constant pick.
