  1. Helix cant cop this tone. we've already been thru this once here ....or at least no one has been successful in replicating it. Anything is possible i guess.
  2. I dont know man Why dont you just go to customtone and download some of those patches, and then replace the amps/cabs/ IRs with your sounds? Or flip thru the helix presets and do the same, replace the preset tones with the tones youve been dialing. I often find that the fx in a lot of these patches, including the ones on customtone, sound pretty close, its the amp sounds that need adjusted. Also, it seems like you are battling some misconceptions. I mean reverb will never make a guitar sound like its more up front. Not in any case. The drier a sound is, the closer it sounds.
  3. Lol, either you like it or get no vote. Ever heard the phrase like it or not? There ya go. In full effect.
  4. Read some of the comments there, seems as if there is some belief that the downvoting is being done out of spite. Theres seems to be this thing that anyone down voting is public enemy #1 as if it shouldnt be allowed. Im downvoting because i dont want L6 wasting time here, when there are so many other things that helix needs, that are more important. The result of mixing pre/power amps is going to be far less impactful than what people think. On paper it sounds great and with hardware there'd be appreciable differences, but all this does in the softworld is make the rabbit hole a little bigger for those who enjoy going down it. Sure i see the other benefits the poster outlined and thats cool, but there are some important things already not being addressed.
  5. Sure reverb can have a great impact on the sound, but no more than delay chorus or any other effect. A very good delay or a wha wha, can have the same effect on ones sound and creativity. Its just an effect. Its not as if reverb does a better job with this than all the other fx. Its all in what floats a persons boat. Its subjective. Can you still consistently build a great guitar sound without reverb? Yes. Can you without the others ive mentioned? No. Will reverb make a great sound better? Not always. Todays guitar sounds are more dry/up front than ever. Reverb is less of a factor today than it ever was. Thats not to say that its not important, but i think you are placing too much value on reverb and what it does to a guitar sound, because YOU have fun playing it. Just to reiterate, I am very much looking forward to improved reverbs.
  6. Reverb wouldnt be very high on the list if even at all. The two that would have the most influence would be 1) ability to dial the modeler and then 2) the cab.Probably amp modeling quality after that and then guitar quality. Dont forget about the player. He probably slots in around #3. In the hardware world we might have a different arrangement of importance.I can still think of a few things on my checklist before reverb. Though sure, some nice verbs would be lovely.
  7. You can also try another amp. They all sound the same set up in this configuration anyway. Sure some have more bass, less mids, more bass before the gain stages, which produces a bit of a different result than more bass after the gain, some have the ability to produce more distortion, whatever, but tone wise they all sound the same.
  8. lol@ baby with bathwater.....Ya know, i wanted to start a topic a while back asking what fx or models people really missed from their old line 6 modeler, because at the time i was missing the compression from my old POD 2.0. Id also hear of certain amps and things that people missed. I figured L6 would never listen to one guy, and having an idea scale idea come to fruition is about as likely as hitting the lottery. In my case, i think i just learned how to get a comparable sound from Helix, though i still miss that one. Back to my other comment: Ive only ever owned a POD 2.0 so an effect from the HD is still a brand new effect to me.
  9. That doesnt make a lot of sense. Of course there is going to be room for mis interpretation if your message is unclear. Helix is getting 7 new FX. Are they going to tweak models from the HD and try to slip them past us under new names? Will they simply tell everyone that they are an updated effect from an older modeler? Are they brand new fx from the ground up? Nobody knows for sure other than the powers that be, but what IS 100% clear to me is that Helix will have the ability to load 7 new fx that were not available before. If they ARE updated fx from an older line 6 modeler, and i find that unlikely, as long as it sounds good it really shouldnt make a difference where the effect comes from.
  10. Nahhh. That wouldnt be a new effect now would it?
  11. Agree with the topic. However, being critical of the unit can offer a totally different viewpoint.
  12. Ive had zero luck with Helix thru a guitar cab. Using Helix as a guitar preamp into a power amp, and using the preamp AND amp models. Tried my marshall with 25 watt greenbacks, my marshall with T75's, and my boogie with V30's. Power amps included simul class 2/90 and Rocktron velocity 250, and a vht 2502. Every model sounded the same. Some have more bass, more treble, more mids. Some have more distortion, more bass pre distortion, more treble pre distortion, more treble post distortion, but the tones all sounded exactly the same. Was not inspired to say the least. I dont think thats a fair statement. Major label recordings and tours were done with the lowly POD 2.0 and we all know Helix is a step up from it, so to say its not there can be pretty easily disputed. Also AX may have been around longer than Helix but im sure Line 6 has as much if not more modeling experience under its belt, dating back to the early POD, so while technically you are probably right, its a fairly disputable statement. Hi buddy! Welcome back!
  13. Im not familiar with that sound, so im probably the wrong guy, but the biggest part of any modeling sound is in the cab/IR, so if you can find the right IR id be pretty certain that you can get damn close. As far as helix and its native cabs and amps, theres nothing there that approximates that tone as far as im aware of, so im thinking youre going to have a hard time natively. edit: Oh by the way i think forum member @malhavok is hip to that setup.
  14. Great man. Im of the opinion that most people dont see the benefits right away, so if that happens to be you, remain patient. The tones are there. Good luck!
  15. Thats good news. The current one is a pretty sad state of affairs. Compared to the level of the product anyway.
  16. This weekend would be awesome! Im itching for some new stuff and ive got the whole weekend free. My luck wont allow for that though.
  17. I think what the OP is asking and what most want to believe is that whether or not they are using Helix the same way we are. Hell, 24 of those 26 may be just using the tuner for all we know, or stepping on it once a night for a particular delay they like. When we see a modeling rig behind those players then maybe that list will have some merit. Otherwise, i think you are putting a little too much faith in that list and which pro artists are actually USING Helix.
  18. Hopefully once Helix has fully matured it will be highly coveted for it sonic capabilities.
  19. Naahh!! Thats not it at all.
  20. Cool. Im not often agreed with. :P Id love to see a frequency analyzer on the EQ. Ya know, everytime i plug into a hardware pedal i think "wow, what a cool effect". Anytime i put an effect on in Helix i think "meh i could pretty much get this effect anywhere". I feel like there are a lot of fx there just to increase the menu size. Some of them are just so pointless. "Since you had to wait 2 extra months for an update here is a multiband compressor". "oh and heres a chorus just like every other one you have" Cmon, be at least a LITTLE innovative. The other thing that really bugs me is the way the mix parameters all go from 12% to off - when at 11 and 10%. I dont have a big problem with the fizz. I guess i use IRs that are darker, so it gets lost in the wash, but Helix cabs are completely unuseable for me.....OK maybe 5% of my patches use a native cab.
  21. atta kid. Welcome to the gentlemans club :)
  22. Well lets hear it man? You gotta be able to play too, dial tones, have a descent guitar, and a good ear too. Speakers alone arent going to give you "tones to die for."
  23. Hey man, grab multitap 6, bring the delay time down to around 300. Feedback about 40%....if ya havent already. Good stuff, and simple/quick..
  24. Why dont you just have somebody over here grab you one and send it? Im not sure if the exchange rate on currency is the issue here or what, but theres gotta be a way.... lets make this happen for you.
  25. Im pretty sure theres a video floating around here, with a dude playing one....because ive been considering one for a while now since that vid. It kinda got me hip to it. I remember being somewhat impressed with the sound and thats really saying a lot. Im pretty critical. Esp when it comes to tones. I feel like my monitors are going to get any more FRFR, but yet even before i noticed this thread i was kicking around calling sweetwater to check their return policy on this particular kit.
