  1. This is probably being over-thought. Just use what sounds good. Why worry about the data being tossed.
  2. I think they can be, but modeling is a little different in a way that may need a short explanation. For instance when i turn the treble control up on a real amp, i can plainly hear the the treble coming up as i turn the control. On modeler, especially the Helix, when i turn the treble control up, i dont hear it coming up nearly as evidently as i do on a real amp. I need to strike the strings again in order to hear the full detail of the new treble setting. So its there....but is it dialing similar to the amp its modeling? Its a little harder to tell.
  3. Not a bad choice posting here at all. Im sure there are plenty of people willing to trade. The grass is always greener.
  4. Ive never had an issue with the tuner. The change suggested here doesnt make a noticeable difference for me.
  5. Yeah..You just wont be able to pan them. Thats something that i wouldnt be able do without.
  6. There are absolutely no rules whatsoever. Every single effect and its placement will have a more than subtle effect on the sound. Some more subtle/evident than others.
  7. I dont think any of them are going to make or break a mix. In a commercial mix youd be able to tell. Then they may play some importance on the value of the song, but for most of our needs they are all pretty good. I was least interested in the POD farm tone and most surprised by the 8505. Wondering how you dialed the amps? Set all controls the same? or set each amp to what sounded best or made them sound most alike? Though, i have no idea why anyone would downvote your efforts. Thanks for doing this.
  8. In the modeling world, a much larger percentage of the tone comes from the IR/cab sound as opposed to the hardware setup where its closer* to 50/50. In the modeling world i can pretty much make an Engl sound like a Marshall. Much much tougher to achieve with hardware. If you have something that works for you, you are probably not going to see a major improvement in tone. What you will see are a greater number of good tones and far better capabilities.. Think about it. POD was on major recordings and tour so obviously the sounds on it are good enough. Helix has been out for a couple of years or whatever. I still havent heard any guitar tones that are WAY better or even much better than the guitar tones of 2 years ago, and if Helix sounded way better the way some people say it does, should be a cinch right? Im going to say you are not going to see the benefit of Helix with your setup....but then you never know how your needs may change, and the software is ever evolving.
  9. I dont think there were any surprises or major letdowns. I pretty much knew what i was getting. No offense to those that believe this, but you are in no way going to achieve the kind of tones with helix cabs as you will IRs. Maybe can get pretty close with some of the cleaner stuff, but for distorted rock and heavy tones, helix cabs wont compare. In some cases they arent bad but it takes far too much fussing. There is some overlap in sounds. Esp with the amps and verbs but for the most part im pretty happy.
  10. I dont use headphones for the Helix much, but anything that rolls off the highs works for me. My good phones i plugged in once and there was too much detail so i never used them after.
  11. Although i like the Litigator it was a sound i was already getting. Its a descent tone, but it will never be instantly recognizable the way a Marshall or some of the other tones are.

    Tube amps Gone?

Triaxis is too versatile to get Triaxis is too versatile to get rid of. One of my fav things is plugging the triaxis into the souncard with an IR. It doesnt get much more simplistic than that.
  13. Some great points! As cool as the recreated sounds are, heres to hoping for the day that modeling puts an unforgettable tone on the map.
  14. Very Cool. Now the SLO 100 OD channel on a higher gain setting i dont think is very close. Mid to low gain Soldano stuff i love. Though im not sure how faithful it is. I really like the Hiwatt too, but the two hardware setups that ive heard sound as different as two identical amps can sound, so i cant say there. Very unfamiliar with vox. Always wanted to like but even tho player i like use them, i cant seem to make it work well for me. Theres a lot of stuff that no matter how close it is, it still sounds great, and i dont even really care if it IS close or not.
  15. For me I say its gotta be that marshall sound. Most any of the amp/cab combinations made except for the plexi. Not super true to the plexis ive used/heard. (only 2 of them) I think it REALLY nails this sound (and most IRs and sims seem to have a pretty good handle on it IMO) to the point where you can pretty much get rid of those amps in a recording scenario. Thing is some of the other amps do a pretty good job where say....the 800 lacks a tiny bit. The Zed for one. Where do you stand on it?
  16. I know youve got it worked out, but what it sounds like you are asking is whether you can save multiple versions of a block or even "block presets"? or said yet another way, custom blocks?
  17. Lots of good stuff in there. Thanks! However i cant relate my thoughts on the matter to an acoustical one. Ive put forth a great deal of time, and effort into "perfecting" my acoustical environment. IMO is a matter of taste. lol, you know exactly what im talking about. I guess it could come down to ear fatigue, but maybe another version of it? I dont know. The one thing i could say is about your situation is - unless you KNOW i wouldnt worry about it. Ive RE-recorded tracks with what i was SURE was a better sound, and the tone of the scratch track was "just the thing", still winning out. I think i dial my most fitting tones "in the moment". Unless a tone is just wrong, working on it more and more down the road seems to be a waste of my energy and quite often very time consuming.
  18. I think its strange/neat/intriguing that when i first turn my helix on 99% of the time i really enjoy a sound that i have stored from the previous day. Maybe have even worked on for a while. Often without music context and just a jam, it sounds "perfect". Yet when i start comparing presets to one another, almost immediately most of them sound like crap, and there are very few that i like a lot. Ive been doing this for a long time so im aware that a lot of it is perception, but sometimes i get the feeling that knowing exactly what im experiencing, or putting an actual name on the circumstance would be helpful. This is the question im hoping you'll help me with. I liken it to owning a tube amp where some days you turn it on and just fall in love with what you are hearing and other days it sounds no so great at all. Its kinda similar but not really. Some of it is the playing, some of it is the guitar, and some the tubes and components, but theres no question that the biggest part of it is perception. Like 90% of it. Using modelers dating back to my first POD bean (well digitech GSP 21 legend actually, IF youre willing to call that a modeler) has taught me that comparing presets side by side, one after the other is a bad idea. Thanks, interested to hear your thoughts.
  19. Just dying to get your hands in the drama eh!
  20. I dont know if maybe you though i was being smart but not at all. How do you feel? Do you feel the Wizard has its own identity to where it would be a worthwhile modeling prospect? Do you think modeling has come far enough that the coders can replicate these amps to the point where people can differentiate between a plexi and a plexi clone? Is it worth the effort? Just some random thoughts but all genuine. My opinion is that the Wizard, while great sounding doesnt really have its own identity. The cab may be a worthwhile candidate for an IR. No?
  21. Not sure i see the point in that. As much as i love the sound of them, they are pretty much clones themselvs. Modeling does pretty well, but i dont think it has become good enough to be that specific.
  22. Why dont you just post the preset? Then people can get most of the way to the tone you are trying to achieve.
  23. Thats it exactly. Sometimes 12% is too much. and 11% sometimes, is non existent or not enough. Not that i disagree with you, but how could it be the nature? Is it mixed in, or is it not? It almost seems as if its NOT a mix.
  24. Tell you something else i think sucks. The fact that anything less than 11% on the mix control for effects, is pretty much off.
