Heres how to get ripple to quit working - Lets use Litigator because the effect is most evident that model since it just sounds like hum. Start with a fresh preset. Add Litigator and turn the ripple up to 10. Add any block. Lets say a speaker. You should still hear the effect after youve added the speaker. Now start cycling thru selections. Not values (such as mic, distance, hi cut, ect) but different speaker selections. As soon as you start cycling thru selections - lets say from 1x12 lead 80 to 1x12 cali IV you will hear the effect stop working. So it seems as long as you are working with blocks in their default settings OR simply changing values of a block, ripple still works, but as soon as you add a speaker or compression block and select a different type of speaker or compressor, thats when ripple stops working. Say vetta comp to blue comp. If you would have just stayed on vetta comp and simply changed its values (sensitivity or level) you would have been fine. It can be ANY block AFAIK. Heres how to get ripple to start working again - 1) after youve got all your blocks the way you want them, reload the amp block again and dont select any different types of modules inside ANY block. You'll be ok if you raise and lower values, but not if you choose a different type of speaker or whatever. 2) You can also slide the amp block left or right one position....maybe(?) even up or down, but sometimes we dont always have the space to do0 that..

I guess i get it but do we really just have one thread for all bugs? Ive searched the words "ripple and hum" assuming thats all i can do to find out if my bug has been reported, but nothing came up and it still leaves me with a feeling of discontent. For a while ive been an of the camp, if you cant hear it or feel it making a difference to the guitar sound then L6 should set it at a moderate volume and get rid of the slider. Hum is pretty obvious, but ripple not so much. Actually the ripple effect isnt hard to hear at all but up until about 4 months ago when i found the bug, i just assumed my ears were simply not yet picking it up, because the effect was overly subtle, but most of the time it was not working at all, especially in the case of using IRs. Im not sure how widespread it is but ive gotten the same result on multiple computers and ive heard other users, who i consider to be pretty skilled, complain that they dont hear any difference in using the ripple control. There is a bug. Its very repeatable. I find it hard to believe that its NOT a known issue, but then its a little hard to be certain with all bugs lumped into a single thread.

Well with VDDelay, its either the S Rate or the B depth controls, that are doing this intentionally. If you get one of them set a bit too low (cant remem which one), you WILL get some static. I would call this more of a feature or better yet intended behavior and may be somewhat dependant on VDD's headroom setting. Im thinking this is something very different than whats being discussed here.

How can I listen to an MP3 player to the Helix LT
willjrock replied to Tobleronelover's topic in Helix
Just plug it in to any input not being used. Done. -
Yeah i get it man. My vent wasnt directed at you, but more at those ive heard in the past repeating this as absolute truth....and that his comments there dont make sense to me, on so many different levels. It just seems like the strangest, most random approach to a product i could even think of. No disrespect meant.

I dont buy that even one ioda. Its one of those things were theres really no way to prove otherwise, so you can pretty much say whatever you want. L6 would really not have had a choice at this point. My first version was 1.04. Compared to AX8 at what $1099? Helixes would have been collecting dust on all the sweetwater shelvs of the world for $400 more. Their only other option to compete with an AX8 in that price range would have been to needlessly build another box and that would have been a sure fire way to pi55 off the faithful. Furthermore i had heard plenty of talk of helix being called an unfinished product at that time...is it just a coincidence that L6 is still working on it? Could you imagine all the wasted man hours researching, developing, modeling, just so the people who bought helix could have a free gift?! ......and then basing the nuts and bolts of one product on what a future product might sell? Im sorry but theres not even a small chance id believe that line. Im sorry you guys, the update has been cancelled. We didnt sell enough hxfx over the last stretch :)
-
These are pretty much the two main reasons to buy a helix and probably what its most designed to do, so it could be a little over kill for you. Ive read very mixed results when talking about integration with a tube amp. I dont like helix with any of my tube amps, in any configuration that ive tried. I have to echo the above. The most fun you can have with helix is hooked up to a pair of studio monitors. Even cheap ones.

I know, where would you put it? :P I know youve already updated but id like to share my opinion anyway and that is that the legacy fx have really helped fill a sonic gap that i felt was missing between some of the older and newer products. Even if some of the fx don't sound quite as good, it still makes the helix a better sounding unit overall. Brother im sure you just need some more time with the verbs. While the 63 may still be your fav, and thats cool, the new verbs are a lot better sounding. I'll still use every one of the verbs in the legacy category at some point, because obviously not every sound calls for pristinely lush reverbs, but there is certainly a quality difference, even if for only the deeper control....not to mention the fact that the legacy verbs will still make some sounds the HX verbs are incapable of.
-
I tried it with an IR and it responds the same way. It just seems to me it functions more like the legacy slider, where the most reverb is at 100%, instead of the hx alternative, in which the most reverb is in the 50% position. Theres plenty of verb on tap. Easy to WAY oversaturate it. Doesnt seem like theres anything wrong, just that the slider operates in an alternative manner. The fact that the verb increases gradually and smooth from 50 to 100%, seems to supports my point of view.
-
I understand you now Phil. I guess i just dont see the purpose of putting them in a "legacy bank". As far as i can see the only thing its saving is a little scrolling, which doesnt bother me, but im only one. I want 77 new fx but i dont want to have to scroll the whole way through them lol.
-
Trying to get my head around that one Phil. Havent made it there yet. Would you be willing to say the same thing in a different way? :)
-
Thanks yes! I forgot about that. It certainly does offer a clear solution to the issue.
-
Thanks Phil. Yeah i kind of figured a lot of it would boil down to common sense. Still seems though there could be some room for confusion. For instance if you were in a situation where you didnt have the ability to audition the fx first, and then some people just dont have the ability to be able to tell. Again as a temp solution it makes sense. Long term, i could see where confusion could arise.
-
You might have a few misconceptions about the way things work. Dont be offended by that we all do on somethings or another. The level setting is not going to even attempt to make up for it. All that level slider will do is boost EVERYTHING that comes before that slider ( including all volumes of all blocks before it) by equal amounts. The only chance of getting more reverb into the signal is by using the mix parameter of the reverb block. Nothing else will work, short of using a compressor at the end of the signal chain which you dont want to do.

Ok a little background definitely helps. Appreciate that for sure fellas!

Seems a little awkward to arrange the menus this way. If its just temporary then i guess i could understand.. If you think about what each title says.... Mono - use for single channel fx Stereo - use for two channel fx Legacy - these fx are from an earlier product line. The legacy title has no relevance to our end goal. The description "mono and stereo" provide necessary information we need to make a proper choice while the description legacy does not. What do we care what time period the effect is from? The only thing we need to know at that point in time of selecting an effect is "do i want a 2 channel effect or the 1 channel?" From the announcement of this release,I was of the opinion that the "Legacy" header didnt even need to be there. Just put them into 2 categories. Mono and Stereo....but L6 seems insistent on depicting these fx were not built for the Helix. Again we should really have no reason to care, as long as we like the sound. A mono or stereo heading under the legacy section make a little more sense. Getting rid of the legacy sub menu all together is what makes the most sense to me.

I never found anything official. Wish i could be more help

Hey just a heads up but im guessing you may have missed the "reset option" just like myself, because we should have had to restore from back-up to replace all of our presets. Im not sure how important this is, but its been a part of every update in the past. Just want to make sure we avoid any possible headaches down the road.
-
you probably selected the MAC option brother
-
LMFAO...Well loosen the bobby pins on your curlers for a minute kid. i DID get the update installed, but i never had the chance to "restore". I think i forgot about holding the footswitches step of the procedure......which is clearly your fault :) because im unable to think for myself and am only programmed to do as instructed...but anyway everything seems pretty normal. The only reason i mention it is because of the instructions in the last few updates, and failure to follow the instructions will cause 6 more weeks of winter or a nuclear holocaust or some $hit.
-
Seems like most will want to restore from a back-up. Whats the best way of keeping the new presets? Probably exporting them just before backing up? If so, do you have any idea as to which numbers the new presets are, for simplicity sake? As well as the ones reaching back to 2.30 if you are interested in the "extra effort award" :) I didnt get those ones and i dont often use presets so im not sure id know which they are, but theyre nice to have.
-
Thank you oh great Silver one. A direct link there would prob save you some headaches. Its still not showing for me. Just 2.30. I'll assume its a server/flooding issue. Ill try again later..
-
Hell wheres the link to the install instructions? Yeah i can probably figure it out after two years, but ive seen people, all the newcomers wont, not to mention i just feel better following instructions.

Simple question about EQ/Cut parameter priority order
willjrock replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
In a single block its all processed at once. EQ is more about how the filters interact together. You are definitely not defeating the purpose. -
I probably wont tell you anything you don't already know, but maybe i'll get lucky enough to jar brain into finding a compromise. Technique has been mentioned obviously. I know how you're dying to hear that one again ;) Type of string and more importantly string gauge. Larger strings are going to heighten the sensation. On numerous occasions i've had to have guitar players including myself alter string gauge and/or string type (maybe coated)for the part. Its just the best short term option. Asking someone to alter their technique right on the spot, is asking a lot as duncann pointed out. Similar to a singer who produce lots of sibilance. Its mostly caused by their technique but good luck getting them to change on the spot. All this as you can imagine becomes a much bigger issue on an acoustic guitar. Above those ideas, in a recording scenario you could lean on automation. Live i would probably tend to lean more towards gating. A slightly longer attack time on a properly set gate (specifically frequency dependent gating) can really shave some of the front end off the "sqwuak" and soften the "artifact". I tend to stay away from EQ, but thats me. My feeling is that your guitar sound shouldnt have to suffer overall to rectify minor nuances....of course you can always just snapshot it for the appropriate parts. I've always thought of the problem as three fold. The part being played, the technique, and the gauge/type of string. Something's got to give. You'll have to decide what. Though, if you think about it, this is not really a job for processing, as you are basically asking it to remove a sound. Good luck.
