Thank you Peter. As you know in the worship team band, sometimes you need to create more with fewer members. I think this is an excellent application to create more when needed.

I've had my Helix for about a year now, and I find myself "needing" to use the aux input for an acoustic input. I want to be able to blend acoustic and electric tones. Anyone out there using a Fishman Powerbridge and Powerchip on their electrics? I find it intriguing that I can add this to one of my electrics, and run a TRS cable out of my guitar into both the guitar and aux inputs on the Helix. I'd love to try it on a Tele. Just reaching out to see if anyone out there is doing this and what your thoughts are on the sound quality. I realize it won't sound like a proper quality acoustic, but that is OK.

Yes, digital tuners make use of some "averaging" of the input signal. That is why you don't see the PolyTune or the Strobe "jumping around". Averaging is a necessity in many different types of circuits/control system. Averaging does not make a system any less "accurate", but it does allow more "usability" in general. Take for instance the cruise control in your vehicle. Having the engine rpm jump all around to accurately keep you at 70mph is not very practical. The control loop needs some averaging or "dampening" to make the system usable and comfortable. The same goes for HVAC, lots of automotive control systems, and any other control system with an analog input signal. I think "comfort" is the main issue with the Helix tuner. Yes, it is highly accurate, but the lack of averaging or dampening ( or whatever nerd terminology is appropriate for tuner input control) makes the system uncomfortable for many.

I am not at my Helix now, but there is also a parameter called "intensity" or something like that. Turning that up higher will generate some tones that are a bit "off" to get a more spooky sound. Like mentioned above, put Octo (and particle) verb in a parallel path so that you have some tone that is unaffected. That will help. Turn that parameter down some too, that will help.

If the transmitter is plugged into something and has the microswitch engaged, it will go into sleep mode after about 4 minutes but does not turn "off" altogether. It is always sleeping waiting for an input signal to wake it up. The tranmitter can be in sleep mode for approximately 200 hours before going dead. I am not sure about this, but I don't think you can sync two transmitters at the same time to a single base receiver. When you have already synched the first one, inserting a second transmitter into the base will force it to a different channel because it sees the channel from your first transmitter is being used. So to me what I see happening is that you synced your primary guitar transmitter, then synced your backup. So the base was looking for your backup transmitter and that is why your primary did not work. You had to re-insert it to sync it back.

G10 Strange LED Flashing Color Codes

Compact Fluorescent Lamp, those "curly que" looking light bulbs. They are HORRIBLE for introducing noise into your home's circuits. I am not saying that is the cause of your troubles, but it is something to be aware of.

Judging by the smiles on your faces towards the end of the clip, Helix sounds pretty good straight through a big PA at big volumes.

If you are using CFL or LED lamps in any of your light fixtures in your house, turn them off and see if the noise goes away. Sometimes a recepticle is wired into the same circuit as your lighting. A lot of cheap modern lighting laps send a lot of noisy transients back through your electrical system. You cannot see those transients with a mulitmeter, but you can with an oscilloscope.

You can run 4cm with the Helix as well, but you will be limiting yourself tonally going through your existing amp. To be able to get the full use of all the modeled amps and speakers in the Helix, going FRFR is the way to go. Just know that you can do it both ways, and both can sound great.

I only use the software for preset/file management and backups. I program all of my presets on the Helix itself. I also don't use any real amps or stand alone effects effects any more. At home I use just Helix with a pair of powered PA/FRFR speakers. Out of the house, play direct to front of house with in-ear monitors. Helix does sound that good, and is so much easier to transport. One case for Helix and a gig bag with a couple of guitars...DONE.

Helix compatibility with guitar learning software MyMusicTeacher
jbuhajla replied to Fusionfred's topic in Helix
^what they said^ Works like a charm on both Mac and PC. You can also connect to iPhone/iPad via USB with a USB>Lightning adapter. You will no longer need an audio interface. With the Helix, you can also plug in another instrument in the AUX input, as well as a mic in the dedicated mic input.- 5 replies

I am not at my Helix at the moment so I am making a guess at this. I am thinking that there are 8-10 "slots" available on each of the 4 paths (paths can be ran serially, parallel, independent), which gives you 32-40 available slots for effects, amps, cabinets, IRs, etc... Again, I am guessing at this number. I have never ran out of slots. You generally run out of processing power before running out of space on your preset.

"Scribble Strip" is a generic term for any configurable small display that is used for labeling something. It mimics an actual scribble strip that you would write on with a marker like on many analog mixing boards. I don't think the term is trademarked.

The expression pedal probably needs some mechanical adjustment. Some people have had success in loosening the tensioning bolt on the built in expression pedal to remedy this (If the LT has the same bolt has the full floor version).

I've played with blending a little bit of simple synth sound into my tone on a parallel path, but not straight up synth. I'd probably go with a midi pickup and dedicated synth modules for that.

I haven't picked an app yet. I need to find something that will cross fade one out and the other in when transitioning MP3s. That way I can transition MP3 files when switching presets.

Ok Helix users, anyone using MIDI over USB to a Windows 10 machine to control an audio app to start/stop MP3 files? I am familiar with setting up commands on the Helix, but don't know anything about the PC side (or even if it can be done without a MIDI>USB adapter). My goal is to start/stop play of MP3 files on my Windows 10 machine, which is playing through USB 1/2 in on Helix. We've had a time or two when our keyboardist was out at church and I'd like to fill in some dead space with some pre-recorded pads/tracks in MP3 format.

You can run Helix via 4 cable method to your amp. That allows you to use the preamp section on your guitar amp, or bypass that and substitute it with modeled preamps if you wish. Your amps power section and speaker will color the sound, but that doesn't mean that it won't sound great. Lots of people use 4cm to their guitar amp and don't use FRFR.

The first 6 minutes of the video is using the EXT AMP connection on Helix, not MIDI. It also shows him assigning the EXT AMP control to a foot switch. MIDI comes in later in the video. This may sound silly, but also be sure you have your amp switching cable plugged into the EXT AMP port, and not one of the EXP ports. Step 1 in troubleshooting for me always starts with checking signal flow/connections.

Expression pedal is not involved in changing amp channels on external amp. Try taking a look at this vid
