  1. All Variax's have had this feature. Tone knob moves the simulation Mic position.
  2. Changing patches on the Pod does put the controls to their position they were at when the patch was set up so if you turn volume down and then change patch, the volume will be back to where it was when the patch was set up. At least that is the way my setup seems to behave. There may be a way to change that. I would prefer that the volume stay down if I have the knob at zero.
  3. The HD500 (or 500x) does NOT charge the JTV's battery. It will run the JTV without draining the battery but you have to remove the battery and use the supplied charger to charge it. You can leave the Variax plugged into the VDI and not worry about the battery.
  4. Very strange. The models sound great on my 69S - I like them better than the mags because they are dead quiet. No noise pickup. Not so with any mag pickups including the ones on my JTV.
  5. My VDI cable does not have the plastic release tab. I would remove it. The shell locks in place and holds the connector in place.
  6. No way would I pay for the US version. The Korean is plenty nice and they share the identical computer electronics.
  7. I have a JTV 69S and a Variax 500 and the JTV is significantly better in almost all respects.
  8. USB input delay is swamped by the digital processing of it. All of this BS here applies to analog signals.
  9. They supposedly have the same modeling. Not HD. If you are going to upgrade, I would go to an HD model.
  10. As long as the USB interface still works, you are fine. You will eventually reach a length where it is no longer reliable. USB is a packet interface so latency is not purely a function of wire length. Additional latency will not be an issue with a longer cable.
  11. I would opt for a headphone amp if you are going to split the signal to multiple headphones. The Pod headphone output probably won't drive multiple headphones very well and you would not have the option to adjust individual volumes if you just split the signal.
  12. I bought a "Demo" from Sweetwater and it was pristine - not a mark on it. They had pictures of the actual guitar and they were very detailed. If they sold it as "New", it should hot have been out of the box enough to gather any dust on it. That being said, if it's in great playing condition, you might want to clean it up and keep it. How it plays is more important than how clean it is. It's always a gamble to buy a mail order guitar of any kind.
  13. If you like the setup and the guitar plays great you might want to fix the switch and keep it.
  14. You had better know what you are doing. It's not a trivial exercise with all of the cables and boards. Take lots of pix so you get it back together correctly.
  15. Sure. No problem. You can have two input paths too.
  16. I have never heard that this would work with a JTV. Anyone tried it???
  17. Piezos are very sensitive to finger sliding. Coated strings do help. I use Elixirs.
  18. You may experience hum from ground loops if you connect to Two amps. If so, you may have to make sure that both amps are plugged into the same outlet or outlet strip. Even then, you may get more hum than when using just one amp. The XLR outputs are better for this but your amps probably do not have balanced XLR inputs.
  19. Sounds like low batteries to me. That is what it does when the battery voltage gets low. I agree with Phil - if you don't know the Variax inside and out you should not be working on the electronics.
  20. Always use XLR when you can. Less ground noise. You need two XLR for stereo.
  21. Anyone who knows how to properly set up a standard electric guitar should be able to set up a JTV. I agree that the electronics are special but the nut, neck, bridge, truss rod are standard guitar stuff. I have not had any problem making minor adjustments on my Variax guitars. Fortunately, that is all that they have needed. I replace the nut on my 500 and tweaked the string heights. I had to tweak the string heights on the Low E and A on my JTV when I got it to cure some fret buzz. Easy and same as adjusting my Strat.
